Passion of Christ (2004)

Did it exaggerate with all the violence? I remember my (overly religious) mom forcing me to watch it, despite me not wanting to.

Imagine reading hundreds of pages about a god who wants good for everyone he created and thinking you're one of a couple hundred thousand people out of billions he actually cares about and wants a the other billions to suffer for eternity. Calvinism ruined the message of Christianity

            >who wants good for everyone he created
8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

9 He said, “Go and tell this people:

            “‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding;
be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’
            10 Make the heart of this people calloused;
            make their ears dull
            and close their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
            hear with their ears,
            understand with their hearts,
            and turn and be healed.”

11 Then I said, “For how long, Lord?”

            And he answered:

            “Until the cities lie ruined
            and without inhabitant,
until the houses are left deserted
and the fields ruined and ravaged,
12 until the Lord has sent everyone far away
and the land is utterly forsaken.
13 And though a tenth remains in the land,
it will again be laid waste.
But as the terebinth and oak
leave stumps when they are cut down,
so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

The one question you'll never get a straight answer from most Christians is: what exactly did Jesus DO? "HURR DURR HE DIED FOR YER SINS". So, like...what does that mean? How did that change things from before he came along?

      Anonymous

It means Christ defeated death by resurrecting so that your soul wouldn't spend an eternity separated from God after death. It's that simple, idk who you're asking these questions to lmao.

You'll never get me to believe in a god who'd sent someone to eternal torment despite their being a good person. That's no god worth believing in.

              Anonymous

Christians don't believe in that. The idea is that you torment yourself by being unwilling to let go of your earthly passions after death. The fire you think of when in Hell is symbolic of God's love, it can be cleansing to those that want it and torture for those who don't.

God is God whether you believe in him or not
Also all things are possible through Christ; good people who lived before His incarnation can be saved, and we can't -absolutely- rule out that good non-Christians won't be saved
but those who soundly reject God will suffer from their own free choice y that seperation, simple as

is a little off. "Death" was not "defeated", the curse of the Fall was undone and washed away in Jesus's blood, so that anons could go to heaven, whereas before everyone went direct the other way, regardless of anything. Jesus then descended to hell to rescue everyone that died before his sacrifice however, so they only suffered for thousands of years, as the case may be. But it was all part of the plan, as you can well imagine. God being omnipotent was intentionally foiled by Satan and then had to correct the situation by manifesting as His Son which is Himself and sacrificing Himself, as He always thought might be fun.
