What did the bar scene mean? I interpreted it as the French and Germans knowing the same tune, which made the French soldiers realize that they're not fighting any real "enemy", but really just their own kin that happen to speak a different language. A realization of just how nonsensical this war is.
really dude? It's so blatant that they're still going off to war, to likely die, possibly never to feel ANYTHING again - the scene starts with them howling and whooping like dogs being presented meat, but once she sung they were reminded.. of "something"
That something I leave up to you to figure out. Home? Mother? Beauty? Purity? Maybe just not wanting to be at war any longer.
If you notice in the beginning of the scene, the soldiers actually dont know the lyrics. They hum the tune. Then some of them try to sing them, but it's rough.
I don't think they knew the song. It's more about the effects of a beautiful song in the midst of trench warfare. The men transform, for those few fleeting moments, back into boys on their mother's lap. Listening to a song they think sounds pretty.
are you retarded? it doesn't "mean" anything as if there is some hidden narrative that you need to suss out (e.g. your retarded theory about knowing the same song).
it simply depicts men whom war has turned into beasts. who see a frightened young woman crying and jeer and shout at her. but who are then reminded of their humanity by her stark tenderness, vulnerability, and beauty as she sings. they had become so hardened by war that they forgot what softness even was and they were moved by its display.
>ending was a bit shit
It was beautiful. But for the sake or argument I'll..'agree' it was anti-climactic considering everything up to that point. Oh wait who gives a fuck its a Kubrick film.
I've seen 7 Kubrik films so far an PoG is probably my least favorite up to now.
Yeah I got the story and message and all that but some some of the acting was really hammy and it didn't gel with me or draw me in the same way Lindon, Strangelove, and The Shining did
you also whine about hammy acting yet say you like doctor strangelove wtf? now that i think about it the shining had awful acting too. the kid sucked and nicholson overacted

Watch every kubrick film
I've seen all the films he made in color. Except for Eyes Wide Shut.
great film, and I swear I consider it a comedy. It's almost as funny as Strangelove
that end scene was his wife btw, she's gorgeous.

That's so vague and headcanon-y. I don't see how you can call it blatant. I like my interpretation better.

yes
The only good Kubrick film
>I’M ACTING
I enjoyed George Macready's performance but thought the ending was a but shit
>ending was a bit shit
It was beautiful. But for the sake or argument I'll..'agree' it was anti-climactic considering everything up to that point. Oh wait who gives a fuck its a Kubrick film.
try Embrace of the Serpent
>Embrace of the Serpent
will watch. thank you.
>because its in black and white
The best films are in black and white.
My favorite John Wayne movies are In Harm's Way and The Longest Day and both are in black and white.
Watch The Killing.
Forgot I saw this one. Didn't stick with me like his others did, but I remember now getting really hyped up for that last act.
Kubrick's best
its not in color though. thats like having no sound.
i hate zoomers so much
I'll give OP credit where credit is due, if he is indeed a zoomer and not a zillennial larping as one then he gets a pass for having good taste.
It's noir, it has to be b&w.
zoomers are fags
The premise of the entire film was stupid, a weak attempt at an anti war flick.
No its not. It happened to me.
ww1 was full of shit like this. Its what makes it good anti war kino like Vietnam.
It’s a little weak in that it’s very straightforward with no twists or anything still a good movie just not my favorite of his

I skip scenes with women
Barry Lyndon is the best Kubrick movie of all time. Prove me wrong.
Only film thats made me cry
Liar. Watch Train to Busan though.
