It's a pretty terrible show but I'll admit that the first three seasons had some good jokes.

I hate this sentiment that first three seasons are the funniest when I find they still try to take themselves seriously with emotional moments during that time ...I find family guy gets funnier as it goes on and they stop giving a frick to be like the simpsons
Anybody who says the first 3 seasons were funny are under 18 and trying to seem cool or braindead. Season 3-8 is considerably Seth's best work. After Season 9 he left the shows writing team.

They're doing it ironically. They're making fun of the way that every sitcom pre-Seinfeld always had to end with some emotional moment or moral lesson.
family guy had some really bad years between seasons like 5 to whatever 2014 was but they steadily got better after that. became edgier in a good way
the entire sequence with washywashy is undeniably the best family guy sequence
