But can you really consider this movie overrated when it's not even that highly rated to begin with?
I mean, the average consensus among critics and audiences is "meh".
So where is this "overrated" talk even coming from? Is it just another word that's lost its meaning now because of overuse?
I've heard absolutely no one call it overrated. Where's all this "people consider this movie overrated" talk coming from?
>Where's all this "people consider this movie overrated"
Lurk
Let me get this straight you spend your day browsing Cinemaphile and then wonder why you see anons saying a bunch of moronic braindead shit?
Not just Cinemaphile. The rest of the internet. Plenty of people call it overrated
>People are saying it's bad
>And that's really overrating it
Does that explain it for you?
The MCU is overrated and needs to die.
Yeah in 20 years. Trust me this cow still has plenty of milk. Whether you think that milk is spoiled or not doesn’t matter. Just don’t expect it to die in less than a decade.
>People claim movie mid/ok
>New consensus happens that movie is just actually bad
What is hard to understand about this?
If a movie’s considered mediocre to begin with and the consensus only gets worse. Then it’s still not “overrated”.
An overrated piece of media is something that is highly praised by a large number of people. Doctor Strange 2...was not. Even the people who liked this movie found huge flaws.
So something can only be overrated if people think it’s amazing? That’s some weird logic. The word just means “rated higher than it should be”.
>If a movie’s considered mediocre to begin with and the consensus only gets worse. Then it’s still not “overrated”.
>Arguing about semantics
Overrated thought off too highly. If 1 a one was considered a 5 that would be too "highly for what it deserves" to many.
about semantics
Overrated is often used as an insult to a work that's popular or well regarded, but there's no actual threshold of quality or popularity that a piece of work has to obtain to be considered 'overrated'. It just means that the current appraisal is too high than what it deserves.
>Is it just another word that's lost its meaning now because of overuse?
Yes. You can blame millions of idiots who use Urban Dictionary as a legit source and spread it around for that.
>multiverse of madness
>Dr. Strange spends most of the movie in first reality he travels to
I was expecting more multiverse travel with that title.
Movie hasn't even been out for 2 months yet...
They say overrated but what they really mean is shit
MoM wasn't a good movie. It only gets praised on Cinemaphile because it gave them psycho Wanda(which no one else wanted) and racist Raimi memes.
>MoM wasn't a good movie
I know. The problem I have is people calling it "overrated" even though most people think it's mediocre. Therefore it's pretty appropriately rated and gets what it deserves.
No one calls this overrated, it's a mediocre MCU movie like Ant Man or something. Not something people will talk about.
It's more like it was OVERHYPED and now people are calling it MID.
Like when you say your movie has the potential to knock NWH off, people's imaginations start to go wild. And it did. Instead of a cool Strange epic, it was just him sort of stumbling around and then Wanda an heroes. Like at no point do I see IW Strange who fought Thanos.
Not Cinemaphile
Wrong board
You will never be a mod
>But can you really consider this movie overrated when it's not even that highly rated to begin with?
I mean, if it's rated as "mediocre" but you think it's dogshit, then yeah, in your view it'll be overrated.
You can.
maybe
Who is calling it overrated? It’s probably one of the more recent divisive films right now.
