People are desperately hoping for this to be the next TLJ. They really want another movie they can focus all their hatred onto and will it to be a franchise-ending failure. They've forgotten however that this movie has Ryan Gosling in it. So it will never flop.

What does your opinion have to do with your nephew? Why even bring him up? Is he in the thread too? Who even asked?

People are overreacting but I don’t like using satire as a defense for a movie. Like, saying a movie is satirical doesn’t make it good.

        >I don’t like using satire as a defense for a movie.
I called it for what it is. It wasn't meant to be a defense, rather a clarification for the foundation of which the script is built upon.

I keep seeing the defence force using "satire" but none of the filmmakers or actors have ever said that. They all said it's a feminist story. Period.

You clearly didn't see the movie, that or you couldn't take your eyes off your phone for more than 10 seconds, because it's clearly anti-feminist and pro-family. The Hot Topic edgy teenager disregards her feminist propaganda that she is brainwashed with and embraces her feminine qualities and is connecting on emotional level with her mother and wearing a pink dress by the end of the film. If anything, this film just set the feminist movement back to the 1950s American.

You don't know what satire is. This isn't satire, it's petulant whining.

There is only one scene where a character whines or rants. Can you explain what the rest of the other two hours were doing if not satire?

That's called Lipstick feminism moron, its not anti feminist nor pro-family, honestly I think its worse than actual radical feminism. As radical feminism tells women to take up responsibilities and reduce capitalist consumption like men, those type of feminists insist to double down on everything wrong with women andd still be as obnoxious as radfems. Its the default ideology of most white women. Read actual feminist theory instead of posting whatever text the shill agencies told you to type.

False equivalenc. Kyle Rittenhouse video was available for free, it was brainrot that refused those people to change their minds. If they are screening it for free, I might go experience it to say my honest opinion and change my mind. Not bothering to until then to waste my money over this and I will go with the interpretation most real people are getting from it instead of shitposts I have seen here shilling for it.

Do you know what satire is? Not all movies that are comedic in nature 'satire' and mocking the subject matter. There is a genre called feminist comedy.

                >feminist comedy
I'm painfully aware of feminist comedies like 'But I'm A Cheerleader', which is horrid propaganda. The main focus of Barbie has nothing to do with sexual empowerment though. It's about an existential crisis of a woman living in a faux-reality and has to help a mother and daughter kindle their emotional connection, all while dealing with a clingy boyfriend.

Just because the film is marketed for women doesn't mean it's feminist. You're just angry because le angry conservatives told you it was le political agenda.

So far you have gone on and on about how its satirical but your post where you described a character being feminine or amending relationships with their mom don't make the movie a 'satire' on feminism, because no feminst demans women supress their desires to be feminine or not have healthy relationship with their parents if possible.

You STILL have morons spouting how he was guilty and le fired in to peaceful mobs of POC.

It's the exact same other side tribal behaviour. Despite evidence to the contrary they have their narrative that they seek to distribute to others and propogate a belief/ideal.

As I said, the film's story isn't about feminism. There is certainly a lot of it within the subtext, sure, but then yet again, I'm not a suicidal incel that has a panic attack whenever a film has a margin of female empowerment.

                I saw it. Last night.
                Tell me this one thing.

                See

                >feminist comedy
I'm painfully aware of feminist comedies like 'But I'm A Cheerleader', which is horrid propaganda. The main focus of Barbie has nothing to do with sexual empowerment though. It's about an existential crisis of a woman living in a faux-reality and has to help a mother and daughter kindle their emotional connection, all while dealing with a clingy boyfriend.

Just because the film is marketed for women doesn't mean it's feminist. You're just angry because le angry conservatives told you it was le political agenda.

I haven't been paying attention to this nonsense because I actually contribute to society. I'm assuming /teevee/ is mad because Ken got turbo emasculated for the whole movie. If that's the case, wtf did you expect? That's what Ken has always been, a smooth groined boy toy stand in who's there so girls can have a male figure in the background that admires Barbie. Why the frick would a grown man even be excited for a Barbie movie, aside for "le ironeee?"

If that's not what /tayvay/ is mad about then ignore this comment completely.

it was alright, in fact i'd go as far to say it was pretty good. I'm forced to endure kids movies due to family and it's a lot better than some animated garbage trying to get cheap tears out of the audience...if you can tolerate popfeminism. the movie operated on dream logic, even the "real world" remained surreal like the plastic ones did. absolute best sets and costuming i've seen in years, it really elevated the dance numbers. If you don't want to deal with the movie's script at least watch the dance routines when someone inevitably puts them on youtube, that shit was undeniable quality.

the way the ken stuff was handled was the most interesting part of the movie. I've heard documentaries about the homeless, how they feel invisible, that no one will acknowledge their humanity. Ken's turning point was when he was in the real world and someone came up to him, acknowledged his existence and asked him what time it was. it was the first time another person had initiated contact with him and thought he could provide something useful. In the barbie world kens were forbidden from holding any power and from owning property. of course he was being driven mad from his life in the barbie world. The barbie fantasy is one of women making the world go round and men just dancing for their amusement until it's time to sleep on the street.

I saw it on the 19th. Idk what the frick it was trying to do with its feminist or anti-feminist message because it fails to follow through on either. If ignore everything else though barbie's journey isn't really about feminism. Its a celebration of human life. There's going to be ups and downs and times when you don't know what the frick is going on but thats all part of the process. Its a very simple and almost shallow message but its nice. Also the movie is funny from start to finish. Its a solid 7.5/10. If you go in to the movie expecting political commentary you aren't going to have a good time no matter what you believe. If you just want a comedy its a great film.

There's certainly a feminist/anti capitalist slant to the movie, but I think if you watch the movie and come off with the impression that you were supposed to be rooting for the women then you missed the point. To me the movies seemed like a fun portrayal of the battle of the sexes, with both men and women being goofy, likeable, contemptible. The Will Ferrel scenes are the only problem I had with this movie.Weird anti-corporate jokes, brought to you by Toyota.

homosexualry is really a problem in this fricking website. Just watch the fricking movie ffs, pirate it even, but at least come up with the conclusion on your own rather than just base it on what homosexuals on the internet are saying. I did that with PiB and didn't regret it.

The Last Jedi is my most hated movie of all time. I'm open minded about Barbie and I know I'm not the target audience for it. I don't think I'll see it in the theater because I'm single and I don't have kids but it sounds entertaining. I'm sure it does have a lot of feminist stuff in it but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be bad by default, because I'll put up with a lot of shit if what I'm watching is funny.

nearly walked out of the Last Jedi, that movie basically ruined star wars for me until Andor came out. I enjoyed Barbie, mainly because of the art direction and the Ken scenes. The women were the worst part of the film

Sorry Black person, but we're too far into the current paradigm for your shilling and gaslighting to fool anyone. We've seen this whole song and dance enough times to know exactly what happens.

Goose is box office poison unless he's in a low-to-mid-budget indie film like The Notebook or Place Beyond the Pines, or that other one, Blue something. Or La La Land. see what links all of these? they're all dramatic romances. he was in one decent action movie that didn't flop and that was Drive. I haven't seen BR2049 but from the quarter of the movie that i did watch, it was boring and the Goz didn't fit the role. oh yea wasn't he also neil armstrong? and that flopped. what about the grey man? another bland, cookie-cutter wannabe spy movie. it was shit and had tons of plot holes. his mentor betrays him within the first 20 mins.

this movie was fricking moronic;i just went with my wife, my sister and my mom. i didn't expect much but it still managed to disappoint. i was hoping it would at least just be stupid fun like the lego movie but it was weird and preachy and then suddenly it was getting political while simultaneously trying to be heartfelt and make you feel for these (moronic) characters. then it just throws all of its half-hearted morals out the window and barbie starts actively using emotional manipulation to get her way and we finish off with some fricking idiotic evangelion episode 26 "2 deep 4 u" bullshit where barbie meets god and accepts instrumentality.

I didn't really like how similar it was to Lego Movie, even having Will Farrell play the mean businessman that rules over the toys.
I felt like Lego Movie fleshed out the world and rules more while Barbie left me wanting to know a lot of answers about how certain things worked.

similar in structure, but not similar in enjoyment or quality.

    >Barbie World:
Barbies are vapid and have the universe cater to their every need, continue to peer pressure each other and tear each other down. Ken's are treated as disposable eye candy, to be tolerated at best
    >Kendom
Kens have passions and hobbies, desperately wish to share them with their uninterested girlfriends. Barbies are relegated to maid-like role but openly claim to love it and it's clear they would be treated as equals in the relationship if they had the mental capacity to ask for it

    some feminist messaging right there

TLJ failed as a movie, Barbie may be an unapologetic propaganda piece, but it was still a movie.
