>People don't want to be special.

>People don't want to be special. I do think that. It is my philosophy. They- people want to be told what to do and how to live and they want men like me to tell them. They want to go to work and do as little as they can possibly get away with, and they want a big cookie at the end of the day for doing it. And they want men like me to give it to them. And if it wasn't me it would be someone else

idk, i feel this absolutely applies to a lot of people but i do think there are very passionate people, even in simple jobs that do give notably above minimum effort. Especially when you reach like say sports or arts, people like michael jordan, kurt angle, serena williams, these people do not want to just do what little they can get away. Even when i worked in a pizza place there were people who didn’t care about pizza or whatever but took pride in just doing a good job in general.

I don't think it's wrong per-se. Most people have families, jobs, and their own lives to live. As long as something doesn't personally affect them or their families, people can't really be bothered and I don't think it's a moral failing. It's only when the state fails to provide basic needs for the people that people really care and start fighting. In that moment, any charismatic group of ideological populists can take power. People weren't marching in the millions in Iran because they were mad about women wearing short skirts. They were marching because their children were starving, same with revolutionary France.

How does any of that justify him being a criminal whose job is stealing and murdering innocents just to get richer?

It doesn't. It only emphasizes that the Kingpin is just as crazy as the other psychos haunting New York since he's deluded himself into thinking that the government's lesser regard for of his activities in the face of far worse threats means he's a wanted, even valued, part of the system. That he's someone important.

Which is why gibbering morons like Spider-Man piss him off, because he refuses to give Fisk the respect he presumes he deserves.

Its always funny to me how the mob villains threaten to hurt his family and friends like the man who fights rhino and juggernaut and scorpion and titania couldn't just pull them inside out.

Blatantly false. Everyone wants to do what they please without anyone criticizing them.

The most unbelievable part of that speech is that Kingpin would give someone a cookie and not eat it himself.

    >people want to be told what to do
Indeed. I've seen it plenty: people rejecting promotions because the extra pay doesn't compensate the increased pressure, people working for someone else over opening their own bussiness even when the chance presents itself, or quite simply, people dreading to be put in charge, because responsibility is a b***h and decisions are hard. Normal people don't want to be the boss, they want to do the same easy task every day (and yes, get away with doing as little as possible) and have a superior to complain about behind their backs. The psychological need to have a higher external force that can be blamed for all problems (a shitty boss, a politician, a crime lord, hell a recurring natural disaster even) without ever actually having to do something about it is often understated.
    >and how to live
This is where he's full of shit. Normal people are content with doing a braindead job that pays the bills, but they won't take anyone's shit inside their home. They will uphold tradition, domestic culture, or just act like everyone else in public and do whatever they've come to enjoy in private.
