People shit a lot on the legend of Korra but I think the ATLA comics are also really terrible. The whole story about Zuko's mom feels really moronic and Azula getting a redemption arc is also really dumb and feels like fanfiction.

One of the main writers for the original show wanted and was planning a redemption arc for Azula.
>Aaron Ehasz
is this the one who didn't work on Korra so everyone sucks his dick?
He is also the hack behind the Dragon Prince so its pretty much confirmed the ATLA was lightning in the bottle for all the people involved
He may have been the heart of ATLA (and his absence in TLOK is definitely one of the main reasons that sequel was awful) but not all of his ideas were good.
Didn't he also want to introduce another air bender that survived the Air Nation's genocide in Book 4, thus fricking up the whole "The Last Airbender" title?
This is all I could find regarding that:
"Ehasz also told them that there would be storylines about Iroh in the spirit world and people thinking a newborn was an Airbender that Aang would think is Gyatso reincarnated."
I mean, the idea of
>Aang finding a small hidden enclave of Airbenders that survived the war post epilogue and Aang slowly rebuilding their culture together, leading to a small but significant population of Airbenders by the time Korra comes to Republic City
is lot more sensible than
>"magic spirit lightshow happened now suddenly a ton of people in the Earth Kingdom randomly developed airbending!"
Oh yeah, that's def true.
No single person is responsible for ATLA being good it was a joint effort. When BM went off to do TLOK it had serious issues, when Aaron went off to do Dragon Prince it had serious issues. Both series also had high points. But neither were close to as good as ATLA.
it's insane how so few people understand this
all this is teaching me is to have a production crew and stick with them forever to ensure kino forever.
So? That doesn't change how moronic the execution of her redemption in the comics was.
But that's not what you said. You didn't say the redemption arc in the comic was dumb and felt like fanfiction, you said Azula getting a redemption arc was dumb and felt like fanfiction.
>at the deepest moment in her own abyss, she would have found: zuko
I'm not entirely convinced Aaron didn't know what he would be encouraging if this had happened. It'd take a fire and turn it into an inferno.
>is that a brother caring for his sister? OMG INCEST!!!!11
You're such a mentally ill moron. Christ.
>Zuko literally stops Azula from going insane
Come on anon. Firecest is popular enough without a canon "I can fix you" arc
I still got to know how the hell the writers did not see any issue in the central premise of the first comic being "Aang contemplates killing Zuko"
Its like they all forgot book 3's finale.
I'm worried about the Korra comic
How would you have written those two plot points differently?
There was also this comic I saw online showing what happened to Azula when she was first imprisoned, it was pretty hardcore.
No normal person even wants to acknowledge the existence of these comics.
comics are non canon even if they tell you they are.
it gave us ONE good thing tho
What?
it is cute, but is it really worth Sokka being done dirty?
It's fine because Sokka has Toph as a rebound, and a decent chunk of the fandom has always preferred Tokka over Sukka to begin with. Hell, the comics seem to encourage Tokka because Sokka spends a lot of time with Toph in them, helping her get her metalbending academy off the ground.
Frankly, I like it because it always felt shitty to me that Toph ends the series with no one. EVERYBODY gets a pairing but her. It never felt right.
He’s way older than her. It’s super gross
Taang would have been the best pairing. I don't even care about Zutara, Aang and Toph just seem like they'd have fun together.
No. Aang and Toph have zero chemistry, and they more or less almost stop directly interacting after his earthbending training starts.
I think the characters are very compatible, they just tend to not be paired much when deciding who gets to do what in a given episode.
They're two mischievous kids with a ton of power, its weird they barely got to act like it.
To be fair, "zero chemistry" describes a lot of the "romance" in ATLA. Even Kataang doesn't feel like it has that spark, you know? I've brought this up before, but it's like you can't feel any THERE there between Aang and Katara even as the show does a great job building up their inevitable pairing.
Hell, one of the reasons Tokka is a fun pairing is BECAUSE you can feel the hint of that spark between Sokka and Toph. Those little moments where Toph seems to have a crush on Sokka have more genuine romantic feeling than anything else in the show.
My conclusion from this is that Ehasz can actually write romance, but Mike and Bryan sure as hell can't.
Yeah, the AtLA comics were dogshit and I try my best to forget they exist
Why are comic spin-offs of cartoon originals so bad most the time? Only one I got any enjoyment out of was Samurai Jack and it still had major fanfiction vibes.
>Azula getting a redemption arc
Azula didn't get a redemption arc. She had an arc where she fought with the good guys for fanservice reasons then went back to her usual schemes and left with a girl sex cult.
