It's not even that well animated. What the frick was the draw?

It was funny and had good characters and a lot of the people that take it too seriously now are probably the same people that grew up with it when it started becoming 3deep5you
Regardless of how shit the show itself became from Season 4 onwards, it has some of the most elaborate and abstract fantasy worldbuilding of any cartoon (especially if you read the tie in material)
>"Third Orb does not exist," said the Sage. "Why?" asked the Student. "Because the Multiverse," said the Sage, "within which Third Orb exists, does not exist. The Multiverse is a Consensus Reality shared by the Minds of all Sentient Beings. If they were to Die, the Multiverse, as such, would suddenly blink out of existence, vanish, be no more." "Why?" asked the Student. "Because," said the Sage, "there would be no one to perceive it."
>elaborate and abstract
oxymoron,
>Because," said the Sage, "there would be no one to perceive it."
wow how original, that whole quote is a dime a dozen worldbuilding
Lorehomosexualry was the worst thing to happen to modern cartoons
All worldbuilding is eradicated by the multiverse. Nothing can matter or be consistent because the multiverse just goes full circle and brings it all back to ren and stimpy level continuity. Somewhere, it all starts over with completely unrelated bullshit. Even the idea of there being a final plane is arbitrary and can be crossed at any time because "lmao bigger scale means more deeper".
There is nothing at this point separating Adventure Time from Rick and Morty except a thin veil of medieval fantasy that realistically shouldn't even exist because they have so much modern tech. Nothing.
It's just softer rick and morty with swords.
You are a pseud
Shmowzow
It is well animated. Your issue is with the art style.
Last cartoon zoomers grew up with, people self inserting as Finn, the world actually has lore to it and uhhhh shipping wars I guess
Lore shit was new at the time and ww didn't know that it was bad
Nostalgia
>literally judging a book by its cover
shiggy diggy
>Character designs look like they were done by a grad schooler
>Nonsense dialogue where characrers drop random gibberish
>Music often amounts to someone just random notes on a keyboard
Fanfiction-tier lorehomosexualry and going with the "what if le silly world isn't so silly and is actually dark and fricked up" route that was popular at the time and WWIII fan theories.
How would you feel about the reverse?
What if it was dark on the surface but light at it's heart? And the lore is mostly grounded.
dark comedy is already a genre
I don't mean genre wise, I'm thinking what would the anti-adventure time look like and woul it be good?
Can you give an example, if it's something intentionally planned out sure.
Idk maybe the older Oddworld games, if you know that series. Not Cinemaphile but best example I can think of. There is some magic but it's all handled in a less fantastical manner and the scale never gets too big. Also all of the designs are detailed and a little grotesque at times unlike the kind of soft minimalist look of AT. The approach is also more irreverent than pretentious.
Funnily enough, I think they made a series of animations which were nominated for some kind of serious animation award for their quality at the time, which is interesting.

I get what you mean. Some ideas are really creative but get squandered trying to be something that doesn't get the most out of the concept. I worry about that with my own work.
nta but i feel that's worse, i've seen a few indie projects do something similar and im a bit worried its becoming a trend, where they have an interesting idea for something serious but dont take it seriously, someone showed off an interesting horror short in another thread the other day only for it to turn out the creator mostly uses the character for memes and porn.
i should have guessed it was since it had anthro characters but damn am i disappointed anyway
>unironically
jesus christ this board really is newbie twittertroon central lmao. if youre a fricking tourist at least go through /b/ first so you see what this site really is about. twitter is 2 pages away
The thing that drew me in was the vibe of the earlier seasons, kid goes adventuring in somewhat surrealist world.
What else is there for the non-anime fan of animation to delve into? People try to justify watching these kids shows as adults and lore indulgence is one way. There isn't much to talk about story wise when it comes to wrestler animation. Even the best cartoons are merely kids shows that can't get that deep or low brow adult comedies that while funny don't leave much to talk about.
> you can't enjoy something as an adult unless you can have a several hours discussion on it
Holy shit have a nice day you pretentious midwit
>pretentious mid
Good way of describing every adventuretimegay ever
You could talk about the peoduction process,
It's a fun, generally upbeat show where anything can happen.
It avoids usual cartoon cliches by consistently being weird and morally ambiguous.
The worldbuilding being slightly goofy lends it a certain charm as well - the lich isn't death or a wizard but a spirit released from a nuke, the four elements are fire, ice, candy and slime, humans defense against vampires was to wear cute animal hats that covered their necks.
I just really appreciated its more simple themes and, when I was a kid, I liked the edgy undertones, and I also used to self-insert as Lemongrab.
It got to be a bit much, though.
>What the frick was the draw?
You either weren't there, didn't watch the earlier seasons where they foreshadowed a bunch of stuff, or watch the Christmas ep back when it first aired.
