People used to say mid 90s Nick like Rocko was the best and late 90s-early 00s like Rocket Power started the decline. Now there's nostalgia for Rocket Power.

Rocko's modern life is boring as frick, Nick peaked with Mr. Meaty
ALL GOD'S CREATURES
FRESH OFF THE GRILL
SO COME ON DOWN TO MR. MEATY
WHERE FRIENDS MEET TO EAT (MEAT!)
Mr. Meaty was good, how did it end up hated.
Cartoon artists don't like anything "gross" or "mean."
If any cartoon is like that, they'll all scream about how it's the literal spawn of Satan.
What? Cartoon artists LOVE stuff that is gross and mean. Student films are littered with that stuff. It’s the execs that don’t like anything gross or mean.
>Cartoon artists
Wait... Oh frick I meant to say Autists. I have no idea how the frick I typed "Artists." My bad on that one.
I was referring to cartoon autists who hate cartoons if they're gross or mean. They're almost never artists or creative at all.
You should try and fish up some reactions to Rocket Power's initial run from the gamefaqs cartoons board. They would relentlessly seethe at any mention of the show.
People shat on the Teen Titans cartoon when it came out, now it's a classic from CN.
Same with Chowder and Flapjack; now these days, they're cult classics.
Millennials are going to be in for a shock when those who watched Teen Titans Go as a kid will be old enough to properly express how much they enjoyed it.
You're already seeing it in the past 5 years with the backlash against "anti-TTGO reviewers" (Mrenter etc)
It was inevitable. As an older guy, even though I wasn't a fan of the little TTGO I saw, I knew kids would love it. You all are just surprised that you suddenly stop loving cartoons as you grow up and then think its the cartoons fault.
I still like cartoons, but I've come to realise that children just don't think like adults, and thus don't have the same tastes. So much stuff I used to enjoy that is so hard to watch now.
Yeah, when people say "[x thing] from childhood doesn't hold up" I really feel like they mean "I'm not a child anymore so I don't get the same excitement out of it". It's an impossible vibe to recapture as an adult.
Some times I do get surprised when something from my childhood is still enjoyable, I still like iCarly except for the feet bullshit, but FoP just doesn't hit the same.
i can't watch kid's cartoon comedy shows any more. i think it's partly me aging out and partly them not being like the ones I grew up watching. I can watch some older cartoons fine.
It's because the people shitting on a show on a forum were older people. Likely teenagers to young adults in the mid 2000s on forums. the kiddies who were watching are now the dominant culture on animation forums so it's seen as a classic. if you were to go onto some retro cartoon site with old heads, you wouldn't find much love for Teen Titans. Perception online changes because people who post change over time as opposed to a show winning over its detractors.
To 90s kids Invader Zim was the only Nick show worth watching of the 00s because it appealed to teenagers. Spongebob was also liked by them despite what the boomer in your pic says. Nowadays Fairly Oddparents is also added to that mix because it was legit funny. Rocket Power is more for memes than anything, nobody actually likes that shit man
A lot of teens did like Spongebob in 2003 but there were also ones who thought it was annoying compared to Rocko (and this was pre-movie Spongebob so I can only image how post-movie made them react)
All Rocko did was create degenerates
Rocket Power is shit. I was the target audience for it and I can assure you it was a bad show. I watched it because I watched all cartoons.
Now as for OP's point, you can have nostalgia for bad products. I feel nostalgia for when I'd sit down in front of the TV and watch Rocket Power. Quality doesn't change that.
I will not stand for this blatant revisionism. Rocket Power was cringe inducing - no, not that dumb buzzword that gets thrown around, I mean it gives you secondhand embarrassment. It was one of the most blatant cases of grown adults trying to latch onto what they thought was hip and cool with kids - the EXTREEEEEME era - and it suffered for it. This isn't even getting into how Otto was, frankly, a terrible brat.
God forbid “The First Kids Network” make shows for 6 year olds.
If the internet proves anything, it is that kids hate growing up.
Actually, right now I'm thinking I didn't like most of the shows I saw growing up, I just tolerated them.
I didn't like Dexter's Lab, Rocko, Catdog, Arnold, Invader Zim, Rocket Power, PPG, they just were on and they beat the news, but that was it. I was never excited for the "all new X episode!"
I liked Sponge Bob, Courage the Cowardly Dog (but it really scared me so I usually missed a part of every episode), Mansion Foster and Billy and Mandy. Those are the only shows I would ever want to watch an episode if it's on. Otherwise it is just white noise.
How do we Nick ourselves outta here?
>nostalgia = like
You can have nostalgia towards things you hate,
that said I saw the show back then, and it was mediocore
Only if it is a "meme" hate like with Justin Bieber, I usually just want to forget the crap. But I do feel nostalgic about things that I think are mediocre or don't care just because they remind me of a time.
Rocket Power is the definition of average, it’s not worth hating on.
Different people like different things.
Honestly, while I wasn't particularly a fan, I never hated rocket power. The surfer/skater premise was a little too on the nose, and the main kids were not particularly compelling. But the side characters did provide enough funny moments here and there that it was perfectly serviceable background noise.
