My theory is that they are the people who grew up in the 90s when the Universal/Disneyworld console wars was going on and the parks were overhyped. 90s Disney channel had loads of documentaries of rides and attractions on the parks and Nickelodeon never skipped a chance to talk about their spot in Universal Studios and how half the shows were filmed there. But their families never went there. So these people are damn determined to go to Disneyworld any fricking way after spending a childhood lusting after it.
I have to book a year in advance for the restaurants and I do drink around the world. Frick yeah I'm going.
Disney's marketed their parks to childless adults since the 70s and 80s. It's just now it's become a much larger demographic.
Disney Adult was coined by people on the outside of the Disney fandom looking inside, while Pixie Duster has been used for years by Disney Park fans as an insult for the corporate shills that buy the "Disney will never be complete/is not a museum" line whenever a classic ride got turned into an IP circlejerk.

Ehh...before it was kind of normal to mostly grow out of Disney and not caring about it. It was kid stuff, and you were meant to graduate out of that.
But then Disney started buying out everything. Now they own ESPN, Marvel, Star Wars, and all things Fox like Predator and Simpsons. Now adult's interest are swinging back to Disney over and over again. And the general public thinks it's weird and contrarian to hate them, when that was almost the natural state of things before 15 years ago.

It is. People "graduated out of it" by not caring anymore, not by seething daily about it because it doesn't align with their personal politics.
Disney basically killed a large percentage of pop culture by buying it. Marvel is on its way out and Star Wars has been effectively a dead brand for years. If you asked someone 20 years ago what would happen if superheroes and Star Wars died out they'd probably think the world was ending, and yet here we are. Star Wars and Marvel aren't being replaced by corporate skinsuits, they're being replaced by skibidi toilet.
If you told someone 20 years ago that some day Disney would own Simpsons and X-Men they would probably kill themselves.
