People's inability to take any slightly unorthodox premise seriously is what has been killing media for the past 15 years.
There are a lot of people who will say something "Takes itself too seriously" when they really just mean "This actually cares about storytelling when I don't respect it enough to engage with that."
Moreover, there's people who's entire personality is being embarrassed of being into self serious somewhat edgy/dramatic shit when they were teens and their inability to suspend disbelief is them capitulating to ghosts.

bump for a worthy topic that I am too dumb to participate in.
I'm sorry people bully you for your taste in children movies. Be strong!
You and people like you don't give a shit about fricking anything, not even an argument to the contrary. Get fricked you worthless limp homosexual.
you need to give them a concrete example of why you’re onto something
they aren’t intuitive types
>if you dont like my slop you are le bad
Top tier shit man
You say:
>People's inability to take any slightly unorthodox premise seriously is what has been killing media for the past 15 years.
And by your image you imply one of your examples is:
>not muh Star Wars
Come the frick on.
Which is an apt example, because by the video maker's logic, you shouldn't give a shit about any good writing, internal consistency, or even care about the series because it's about "Space wizards". So, exactly what I mentioned in the OP.
You're not as BLANK as you BLANK you are.
It's intended for children. They don't notice any of that stuff. They just want to see cool lasers and spaceships
>Kids movies should be shit for absolutely no reason because I say so. It's not like they should have good media growing up or anything.
It doesn't have to be shit. But adults sperging out because a movie for children doesn't sufficiently stimulate their pseudo-intellectualism is pretty strange
Children deserve good media even if Disney is unable to deliver it. You don't NEED to suck so much corporate wiener, you know?
You're b***hing about nostalgiabait movies because apparently people apparently don't take old franchises for children seriously enough, and you think that's the main problem the industry has.
>you shouldn't give a shit about any good writing, internal consistency, or even care about the series because it's about "Space wizards"
You definitely shouldn't get worked up over it.
So they should be shit for no reason? I can't call a bad movie bad?
Do you walk into toy stores and sperg out at the staff if you find toys that aren't realistic or well-made enough for you? Hey dipshit, the product wasn't meant for you. It was meant for kids and their standards aren't quite as high as yours
So people can't critique bad things made for children?
You can critique childrens movies and childrens toys all you want, but nobody in their right mind is going to take your opinion seriously
Now we're down to
>Lol, people won't take you seriously.
Which is just an extension of
>Lol, you just care too much xDD
Get fricked you worthless moron. You have no actual argument.
That was the conclusion to all the previous arguments. You have fun sperging out over childrens products though
So, no argument then?
The argument is that your premise is a waste of time. Like yeah Star Wars movies are bad and they’re for kids, what more do you want?
A good movie.
Are you 8 years old?
Is it bad to want a good movie?
There are lots of good movies out there
Are you physically capable of responding in good faith or are you an AI that's designed to send deflections back infinitely? Either way, pretty dishonest.
I genuinely don’t understand what point you’re trying to make
I want good movies. I critique bad movies. If a bad movie is for children, it's still a bad movie regardless. Kids should have good movies to grow up with.
Okay, yeah I agree with you there
Childish banalities.
I want a movie made for impressionable kids to be good. They deserve good movies.
Star Wars movies are great and are for everyone, so cope, seethe and dilate you genX troony.
you don’t decide what other peoples opinions are
>So they should be shit for no reason? I can't call a bad movie bad?
You can. But you shouldn't really care that much. A kids' movie being enjoyable for adults is a huge boon, but not a must. Most of the Power Rangers seasons are cringe for adults, but kids get hyped up, and that's what matters. You want them to have a good time.
You're looking at it from a perspective of nerds who forms identities over this sort of a thing which is a fricked up perspective in the first place and one of the things actually poisoning the industry.
Except that's wrong though because the best and most memorable children's movies are the ones with a coherent and well thought out story/characters. They're still movies at the end of the day and follow all the same rules of what makes a movie good, so its moronic to write off moronic writing as 'durr it's just for kids'.
Again, it's nice if an adult can appreciate a movie for kids. The original Lion King was great, and my parents liked it as well, I can rewatch it no problem and even get the same Goosebumps I used to get more than two decades back. But I also loved Power Rangers and my parents didn't enjoy it in the slightest; it admittedly is awful. One is definitely superior to the other in the long run, and there's no harm in pointing that out. But it is nothing to get serious about, you shouldn't be sperging out about how dumb Power Rangers is despite it indeed being dumb.
Verification? Not required.
>You just care too much xDD
Is that seriously the entire cusp of your argument?
>You just take life too seriously
Google "Snow White" and tell me which version comes up.
>Google "Snow White" and tell me which version comes up.
ok so you are just fricking butthurt. whatever dude
>No argument.
The cultural damage it does to the source material by raping it, watering it down and overwriting it in the public consciousness is nothing short of cultural genocide. Maybe when you hit old age you'll have another breakthrough and decide media you deem inherently inferior like fairy tales deserve a shot, and maybe you'll read a book for the first time.
>You just care too much xDD
Yes.
They are not for everyone. They are for children. Now, there's nothing wrong with an adult enjoying movies for children. But an adult sperging out about not liking a movie made for children is moronic.
I care too much for wanting kids to have good movies?
Yes. Let them be the judges of it.
I actually like SW. And I dropped nu-SW after TFA. But that's it, I neither do nor should be mad about any of it.
>Yes. Let them be the judges of it.
Adults can't judge something made for kids?
They can judge it. But at the end of the day, kids now what they do and do not enjoy. Obviously, the "inappropriate" content is something adults have to decide, and they can get mad about it being included in media. But bad writing isn't really inappropriate content.
>But bad writing isn't really inappropriate content.
Yes it is.
Luke sneaks into his nephew's tent with the intent to kill him.
Are you really having to stretch this much and pull out this insane mental gymnastics just to say that calling bad kids movies bad, is a bad thing?
It's not. You can call it bad, you just shouldn't get worked up about it.
I never watched the movie, but is it presented as a heroic deed?
>It's not. You can call it bad, you just shouldn't get worked up about it.
Because you say so?
>Because you say so?
Yes.
How about no, homosexual.
Then don't cry about people laughing at you for it.
That's very graceful of you...
It's not so much crying as much calling out people for their moronic apathy and shit taste like you.
>I never watched the movie
Then why the frick are you commenting on it?
You don't have a right to an opinion then.
I never made any comment about the movie.
I know.
You're missing the point. It's okay to judge it. It's unhealthy to get worked up about it.
Hopefully you're not this controlling in real life.
This just some internet tough-guy schtick.
>You're missing the point. It's okay to judge it. It's unhealthy to get worked up about it.
This is completely reasonable, why did you hide this opinion under layers of low-effort deflection and shaming? Isn't that unhealthy?
Not him btw
They are for everyone, you are just coping your father never took you to cinema.
Star wars was a multigenerational hit right out of the gate, kids these days don't give a frick about it at all actually
Seems weird that the more star wars explicitly caters to (a subset of) adults, the more it gets shouted down as being "for kids". They didn't put fricking Lizzo in the Mandalorian to appeal to kids. The movies are just Kathleen Kennedy's self insert fantasy too, so not sure where you're getting this idea at this point
>The original Lion King was great
>But I also loved Power Rangers
That's the thing, some stuff is garbage and that's fine, I have no problem with that. But Star Wars leaned decidedly towards the Lion King side of things when it made 3 of the greatest movies of our generation (at least in terms of ga blockbusters) with the OT, so all of us expected quality in the story and I think it's more than fair to judge it if it doesn't.
Nobody makes movies to cater to nerds, though. They used to make books and video games for them, but they don't do that anymore either.
Can't kill an industry if you have no influence on the products, meanwhile jaded normies fill every corporate position that works on the slop
You cry a lot.
>aieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee stop making fun of my arrested development
>Stop having standards and demanding that movies made for kids be good nooo!
>slightly unorthodox premise
Government name: Shit writing from a nepobaby who's never read anything that wasn't found in the YA section of Barnes & Noble.
>S-s-stop m-m-making fun of m-my k-k-kiddie slop ;_;
Kys, moron
What movie is he talking about?
The Last Jedi
Sorcerer
The Final Johnson
Why would you want children to watch bad movies?
I'm disappointed by how many movie directors can't handle a film having a serious tone. They always have to interject some stupid quip like
>Ummm, can I just acknowledge how AWKWARD this is? Yikes.
It's like they're afraid to make a point or just tell a story so they have to suck any kind of dramatic tension out of every scene for no reason. It seems like they think it's clever to "subvert" it or something but it just seems predictable and cowardly.
>People's inability to take any slightly unorthodox premise seriously is what has been killing media for the past 15 years.
you are talking about a fraction of people watching movies. If the story isnt just pure entertainment (like kids cartoons) then people will watch it. Theres a reason that for example Disney is big as frick
Disney literally got big because they turned dark, depressing, and dramatic fairy tales into easily consumable saccharine schlock for middle Americans.
yes but the story is still there, wheres the argument?
>inb4 nu-Disney slop
im talking about the classics known worldwide
This homosexual probably loves all the Nolan Batman movies.
Apathy is Death.
>Reminder y'all passion for things is uber icky toxic.
The joke being that adults who base their personalities on children's media and complaining about it look like that?
This literal babyfaced manchild is a comic writer who makes sarcastic self-conscious garbage that appeals to people like you who are ashamed they ever liked anything mildly fantastical
But bad writing isn't really inappropriate content.
I guess Spider-Man making a deal with The Devil was a goodthing!
>YOU HAVE TO SUBJECT YOUR CHILDREN TO THE MOST BRAIN-ROTTING GOYSLOP EVER FILMED AND YOU HAVE TO HECKIN LIKE IT
It goes back to the people are more ironic nowadays as a self defense mechanism from letting others know they care about something
most people consume media and think it improves their social standing and sure it does among those kind of people and when someone says something is shit, it's usually the wienery one or someone the norm thinks is a "leader" in some way and his sentiment is echoed everywhere among them, everyone agrees on one thing, everyone is on the same page so it's alright to them.
everyone on the internet looks like a leader to eachother and most of them just ramble, ramblings have subconscious origins and shills aim at that. barbie is one example where they threw it on people's faces everyday so you'd think about it without any real effort afterwards, part of them became ramblings on the internet and if we talked about greta gerwig's mistress america before barbie got released, some of us might have found it as cringe and the outlook towards the movie might have changed. i know i'm not making any sense, these are my ramblings, take what you want from it
>People's inability to take any slightly unorthodox opinion seriously is what has been killing media for the past 15 years.
ftfy
I somewhat agree. Far too often it feels like the writers feel the need to be self aware or even apologetic for their setting and story, it just comes off as pathetic. It's the whole whedon style of writing, although I think whedon himself actually wasn't that bad at this sort of thing, the people he inspired are however.
I think fantasy was hit the hardest by this, can't think of an even relatively recent western fantasy property that took itself seriously unless it's grimdark fantasy like GoT. Well actually there was the dark crystal series, but no one other than me and like 5 other anons watched it because puppets.
>slightly unorthodox premise seriously
I see Black folk in the most unlikely situations all the time. What are you talking about?
Perfect example of what you're describing is the eternal seethe that these movies caused amongst redditor types
The issue is writers today don’t have any life experience, base their work on shit they watched as kids, have no understanding of the human condition because they were raised in a bubble of fantasy.
This is a large part of it. The only people that get writing jobs have family connections, i.e. are rich to begin with. Basically everything is written by spoiled brats.
It's anime all over again
That's true. Basing your work only in other media you've consumed instead of your own life is a recipe for disaster.
name some
films you supported with unorthodox premises. You consume the same slop as everyone else.
Oh yeah? Name 1000 people like this.
Jeff Loveness along with the entire Marvel writing team.
00's Marvel in a nutshell.
>people who's
>embarrassed of
>self serious
Sorry - I can't take *you* seriously. Please learn to write.
Everything said there is grammatically correct, moron.
Oh, sure. In opposite world.
I accept your concession.
You really don't understand the difference between "who's" and "whose" (for starters)?
That's grammatically correct either way. Besides which, you haven't actually refuted the argument.
>Moreover, there's people who is entire personality
>"grammatically correct"
Who's is possessive. So yes, it is still grammatically correct.
Actually refute the argument I've given here, moron.
See, I don't blame you for being ignorant. Children haven't been taught how to write properly for decades now. I do blame you for being too proud to admit your ignorance. And you haven't made any argument - just repeated assertions that things that aren't grammatically correct actually are, as if this magically makes it so.
Oh, good - another one. For the love of Christ, "who's" does not mean you're talking about a thing belonging to the "who" in question. It's a contraction of "who is" (and occasionally "who has", but best keep things simple...). "Whose" is used to indicate belonging. This is really, really basic stuff - or at least it was when I was a child.
Refute the argument given by the OP.
Why? I'm not interested in refuting any arguments related to creative works made by people who struggle with basic sentence construction. If you can't do me and others the simple courtesy of learning how to communicate properly before coming to the table, I don't feel obliged to take you seriously.
>"I will only judge an argument based on minor grammatical errors, when everyone else can fully understand what is being said regardless and not on the actual merits of the argument itself. I am very intelligent."
Daily reminder that even illiterate ESLs speaking in broken engrish can be more right than you. I know that must be an uncomfortable truth for you, shallow mutt
you mean woketelling
Ultimately, he was right, TLJ certainly did not deserve the unrepentant praise it got and neither did it deserve the autistic backlash that followed for several years (which was entirely in reaction to the people saying this movie was the 2nd coming of Christ). The problem is that he was being completely dishonest when making that statement since he was in the first camp. At the end of the day it's a movie that should have been forgotten as fast as TFA.
