Personally I think griffith was in the right.

Personally I think griffith was in the right. A year of torture for a minor frick up got him to the point where getting a new body was the only option, and the god hand didn't even tell him he'd lose his empathy so the rape is from a completely different person. Just my reading of it, who do you side with more

I find Griffith too petty. He freaks out so hard over Guts leaving because he thinks a real king treats their subjects like property, then he spirals out of control and ruins everything he worked for. He's in the right only if you ignore every circumstance that got him into that position.

I never thought griff actually thought of guts as property or anyone else for that matter, the casca flashback shows he's a master of repression and during the eclipse he says something to the effect of you're the only one who made me forget my dream, so he cared about him all along - the duel to "win" him back was all a show with griff denying his true feelings, which I guess he shouldn't have done either, but if he wants to be king he can't let himself be distracted

Guts was the only one to ever make Griffith forget his dream. When Guts beat him and left it snapped him out of his daydream. I dunno whether he originally planned to frick Charlotte or just wanted comfort. But fricking a princess would’ve been high treason anyway. If it wasn’t for his deeds and the King wanting to make a mockery of him as he had been shown up by Griffith he would’ve been killed. But then Guts’ guilt for all that led to him rescuing Griffith. Which reunited him with the Belehit and started the sacrifice. Most of Berserk is mistake and consequences. I’m up to book 9 of the omnibus’. I’ve said to family if they want to get me anything for Christmas then another of those would be great, so hopefully get some more soon. I haven’t been this invested in a manga since I was a teen reading death note.

The band of the hawk all swore to fight with their lives (and give them up) for Griffiths cause. He had already sacrified countless men on the road to his goal. The choice to sacrifice the lives of the remaining band to achieve godhood was already made long, long before the eclipse. His only sin was raping Casca. But ironically that last moment of human indulgence (revenge against Guts and to a lesser extent Casca herself) is going to be Griffiths undoing. Which is poetixlc as he has realised several times, Guts and Casca are the knly two that have ever made him start to forget his goals and dreams.

Enlisting in an army and knowing the consequences that come with it is different from being slaughtered by demons with no escape. They consented to the former, the latter is fundamentally different. Griffith used your logic to justify his decision but it's a fundamentally different thing.

        This
It barely took anything for the GH to persuade him. In his mind he had already decided, even if he didn't know exactly how it would happen, to sacrifice them all.
Losing his body was his own stupid fault anyway, nobody told him to go and bang the princess and get caught. His fault for overreacting to the (temporary) loss of his butt buddy.

The band signed up to achieve their own dreams, they thought they could do that by helping Griffith fulfill his. Being eternally raped by hell demons wasn't part of that.

It doesn't have to be a lot, you dumb homosexual-- stop creating false dichotomies. It's rarely ever one extreme or the other. In order to be a good character you do have to speak more than six fricking lines, though, unless you're mute in which case your actions speak for themselves or you have an internal monologue. Pippin has neither except for one moment early on where he drags Guts out to drink with the hawks and that's it. He's a nothingburger and people only elevate himself because of their nostalgia for a time when Berserk was actually good. Keep coping, braindead weeb.

I never understood this. Guts was willing to kill a boy for griffith but soon left him? Did he do this because he wanted his respect, was he planning on coming back?

Killing the boy wasn't his intention, he did it by pure instinct. Plus at that time, he knew he wasn't strong enough to face Griffith in duel again

That's was great writing. Misunderstandings like that happen where you unintentionally hurt other people. And if isn't resolved, it can easily lead to people drifting apart.

Did Griffith truly mean what he said, other than in theory? Does it apply to Guts? Was he just trying to get laid? How the hell is Guts supposed to know.

So long as the ending is Griffith taking over most of the world, turning Falconia into the greatest safe haven on earth which gives humanity peace and a reason to live beyond war and suffering.
This will cause the idea of evil to no longer exist and therefore the god hand will lose their power 4/5 (being hundreds of years old) will turn to dust, Femto will lose his power and return to tortured Griffith who will die slowly... His last glimpse before death takes him will be that of Guts and Casca living peacefully on a farm long having forgotten him.

The way Griffith is, a slow death being forgotten is a million times worse than a glorious death being cut into pieces by Guts.
Miura also said he couldn't see Guts killing Griffith and he couldn't bring himself to give the story an unhappy ending. I also love the idea of Femto/Griffith being his own downfall.

Griffith was justified and the soldiers were going to die for him anyway so there's no point in condemning him. Yes, they probably expected to die in battle and not devoured by monsters but they were still pledging their life for him to become king and that's basically what they did. The whole revenge aspect makes no sense beyond the rape which even then they're still alive.

I think that his mistake was trying to be the best at everything while trying to impress someone else, or maybe himself.
For example, he fricked princess Charlotte at early night but left when the sun was rising.
He wasn't supposed to take all that time, besides she was a virgin. Just by not climaxing quickly he would have created a good impression.

It's justifiable when you have an actually competent leader. Griffith was so unhinged he completely destroyed the hawks because he couldn't contain his homosexual rage over being spurned by Guts. What a colossal gay.

Griffith was in the wrong. Because let's say he did care and sacrificed them. Why does he still hunt them down? The godhand's one rule is the do as thou wilt shit. So nothing forces Femto/Griffith to continue being a c**t. And we know being one of them doesn't remove empathy since that one demon guy Guts tortures doesn't sacrifice his daughter when given a chance. So this shows Griffith is just a c**t and he continues to do nothing but be a c**t. He has the power to do basically whatever he wants and has that power and uses it solely to lift himself up and dick everyone else over. If he had cared about his friends "do what thou wilt" would probably include more than just doing evil things. If Griffith ever was good, he sure isn't now. And he sure isn't post-eclipse.

What was everyone's interpretation of why Griffith was thinking "stay away" as Guts approached him? He thought he wouldn't be able to go through with it if Guts touched him? That Guts touching him would tip him over the edge of sacrificing them? Some kind of conflict between the parts of him that genuinely loved Guts and the willingness to sacrifice him and everyone else for his personal gain?
