Then why is it treated as a reveal? Also, I don't think they ever actually said Ego created Mantis until the Christmas special.

In the second movie Mantis explicitly says to Drax that Ego found her orphaned on her home world, and makes no mention of the guy being her biological dad. Holiday Special retconned it.
Not really a retcon, it was always implied. Ego never stuck around for his children to be born, he went back and collected them later. Mantis was useful to him but didn't carry the celestial gene, so she was spared unlike the rest. She was too ashamed of watching the rest of her siblings collected and killed to admit this.
All those 3 DnAgays that shipped them must be mad.
That said, outside of the Holiday Special, them being siblings added nothing to the characters.
People started theorizing that she was Star-Lord's sister when this and that one scene that had Ego with mantis' mom was shown and Gunn pretty much said the equivalent of "Don't think too hard about it"

It's like when people were saying that Adam Warlock was going to be in vol.3 because of the vol.2 post-credit with Ayesha and Gunn kept saying "I never confirmed Adam Warlock for vol.3" and suddenly people tought this meant Gunn denied that he was going to be in vol.3

And to clarify when I say retcon, technically nothing Mantis says in Vol 2 absolutely precludes a tweest reveal of Ego being her real dad, but it doesn't seem like they had it in mind at all. Even when they reveal that Ego had a million kids whose skeletons were stuffed in the basement Mantis doesn't change her story or allude to anything more.
It's not a retcon at all, scenes with her mother and Ego, and Mantis revealing her parentage to Drax were shot for Vol 2 but were cut.
Why would that be a factor to the plot? They're just family. Peter had the least interaction with Mantis other than Nebula before then (which is fair since Vol2 was about Peter and Ego and Yondu). That gives them a stronger connection but isn't going to be a plot point. Why would a character being related to another have to necessitate a plot point about it?
