He ditched Gwen and Mrs. Conners when his knowledge could have helped make the gene cleanser. Sure he probably did more good as Spider-Man than he would have done in the lab but they don't know that
He had to take care of Aunt May, who is his greatest responsibility. Spec Spidey's Peter is a 15 year old kid capable of making dumb decisions or not thinking all of his actions through. He never screwed Doc over because he was the one that saved Doc, he just can't tell people that. Also the second time around Peter did NOTHING wrong. As Spidey he talked with who he thought was Doc Connors. He didn't know until later that it wasn't the Doc and when he tried to talk to people about it they didn't believe him.
