    this movie fricking blew:
    >donald pleasance phones it in and changes accent several times
    >jennifer connelly's character acts like a wack, one second she's crying and the next she's smiling and being surrounded by light. a group of guys give her a ride and then she freaks out for no reason, hits them and throws herself out of a moving car
    >nonstop flashing lights (thanks for the epilepsy)
    >random metal music starts playing randomly, not even on cue. like she's waiting in some lobby and it will start playing without warning
    >the fx for the mutant boy are shit
    >some monkey saves her from that mutant
    >dood 1 minute still shots of scenery for no reason

Also, are Dario Argento's other films worth watching? I've only seen Suspiria and Phenomena

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage
      Deep Red
      Inferno
Tenebre, strong contender for his best work
      Opera

      >writer/producer
Demons 1 & 2, these are both a lot of fun

Deep red is arguably his best film.

    >movie's aesthetic is so visually pleasing to look at?
i watched this film when i was 15, it was trash. Some insect powers, some strange monkey, a pool full of breads and some other stuff, a mutant midget-kid or whatever the frick that was.

It looks good because its on film and there are some good aesthetic scenes, but its due to Jennifer's appearance.

After all these years i can say that i think that Argento made the film so he can get close to Jennifer.

There is no film, its just a pretty teenager and some idiocies to frame her.

The monkey, insect powers, and mutant midget where kino tho

        >The monkey, insect powers, and mutant midget where kino tho
insect powers; would be cool if she made the insects (a carpet of insects, creeping doom) devour the villains in the end, as in stripping them of flesh and leaving only the bones.

mutant midget; ugly but not really a threat, they should have made a real monster

monkey; frick that chimp it attacked her and they should have put it down. It should not be in the film. They could have used some other animal or some other character or someone taking over the role, the actions it did.

Also Argento's wife was certainly jealous of Jennifer on set.

also that chimp " It then proceeded to attack Jennifer Connelly and bit off part of one of her fingers. Connelly stated on Late Night with Conan O'Brien that Tanga continued to act aggressively toward her from that point on, thus necessitating a body double for some scenes."

basically a slightly different Suspiria with more famous actors, but worse acting and a less engaging plot despite having a potentially more interesting gimmick (Jennifer can talk to bugs)

Easily Argento's worst pre 90s movie

Part of it may have to do with Argento’s backstory for the film. According to him, Phenomena takes place in a world where the Nazis won in WWII.

how does this impact the film?

I watched Inferno and it made me want to quit watching movies for good, it was so bad.

"When I was thinking of Phenomena, I imagined that between 1940 and 1945 there had been a very serious incident, the war, and that the Nazis had won. After thirty-forty years, the people had wiped this dramatic event from their memories and didn't talk about it anymore. In reality though, the Nazis won the war, and life therefore has a totally different vibe, it's a world where the Nazi order won. If the movie is watched attentively, then it is obvious that, from that perspective, whoever made it was working from this principle."

    Dario Argento

He did not put this in the film.

The mutant kid should have been her half brother or some shit. Like her dad was a celebrity for some reason (it never factors into the plot). So he banged some groupie and she had a mutant kid
He runs off and pretends the mutant isn’t his

    >Phenomena takes place in a world where the Nazis won in WWII.
this would have been a great framing, but he did not implement it.

instead we got some chimp eating her finger and a mess of a film
