I like foley work and women with tails.

Is there a scene where she swishes her tail to make a broom sweeping sound effect?

I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to make a movie in continental Europe without having at least one scene of gratuitous nudity

This is a yroop arthouse movie, what industry? Do you assume everything is made in Hollywood?

Im referring to the filmmaking industry in general.

In spirit, yeah. Euro-arthouse just can't seem to break itself free from the stuff made in the US.

I hate when people refer to filmmaking in general as an industry as if it is a monolith.
And I don't see how an interesting surrealist feature is a signifier of a dying industry. In fact European arthouse is doing better than ever, it's a profitable niche because the films are usually not costly.

why isn't it in industry? you think these people aren't making product?
and it is a signifyer when there's nothing BUT generic capeshit and weird "artsy" shit see

        >PIAFFE is a visceral journey into control, gender, and artifice.

It's gonna be more soft porn masquerading as some kind of comment of womanhood.

Weird artsy shit is good. Weird artsy shit has always inspired filmmakers with more mainstream drive to make something more that is both original and has mass appeal and it has always been an important part of the cinema as an artform, even if you don't like it personally. Also there's a huge variety of art cinema and not all of it has porn elements (as in, sexual themes being the foucs) if you don't like that.
I really don't like the aversion Cinemaphile has to "arthouse". To me this is more of a signifier of the stagnation of art, when so many people hate the stuff that tires to do something unusual with the medium. It's especially damning when people who have an aversion to such stuff get into the industry. This is how you get Joss Whedons with their ingenious takes about how it's bad to make something that takes itself seriously and doesn't break the tone with shitty quips. And similar moronation.

            >dont like the Cinemaphile aversion to arthouse
thats almost the whole point of art house, its in the art house. Movies made by “artists” for “artists”

The world becomes so insular that tons of art house ends up being wankery about very niche ideas, themes, settings, and characters that only the artists own social cohort give a shit about. So no, Cinemaphile doesn’t care because most people aren’t going to pass through the threshold of even wanting to go to the effort of dedicating 90+ minutes of their day for it, even if the movie is good.
Also the wankery over being a watcher of art house has an inherently repulsive stench that any insular fandom has, except art house often has the presumption of superiority over genre movies such as horror, action, comedy, science fiction, etc. I could would make a strong case for something as panned as Escape from LA having as much to say about culture and American society as Syndoche New York and a /film/gay wouldn’t even take it seriously simply because its a John Carpenter genre sequel.

My point is look the horse in the mouth, OPs movie does not look innately interesting over any other art house movie Ive seen before. Each movie should be judged by its own merit regardless of its presumptive strata as “art”

So you only like products that appeal to your sensibilities. Truly the industry is in shambles.

I haven't even seen the movie, my take is in generally about art films. homosexuals in this board despise capeshit and talk about how it's unoriginal and where are the new original filmmakers and then put down things that have the potential to inspire someone to become an original filmmaker even if these films overall have limited appeal.

No, your right, the movie about the b***h with a horse tail sounds totally like an intellectual masterpiece and not someone'd personal perviness played out on film

You can utilize your weird fantasies in something that is at the same time overall thematically and formally interesting. And again, my point isn't as much about this film specifically but overall how when you try to discuss something that isn't outrage bait, capeshit / star wars shit on this board the thread gets shat up with nothing but morons seething about muh artsy fartsy movie le bad. A fricking general had to be set up just to discuss films out of the mainstream circuit because otherwise the threads were nothing but bitter homosexuals complaining. As if the board doesn't have a broader issue of being flooded with actual ads from Hollywood studios of their newest remake remaster and off-topic garbage.

I loved it. It is NOT Yorgos-esque. If everything wasn't about gender these days, more people would be interested. That's what it's about anyway but it's fairly sorta subtle even with a trans secondary character. Wish more people could go into it without knowing about the tail, it's more fun that way. Hot foot stamping scene. Is it more about self-identity, do you think? Would main character have had more of an identity at the beginning if her older brother hadn't transitioned? It's a good movie.

Her brother has a Foley recording business but tries to kill himself and gets put into a mental hospital. His role is mostly about how much she resents having to take care of him her whole life in lieu of living her own life. He looks like a dude in a wig too.
