Pick two and only two.
The rest disappear from existence and memory (the comics they influence don't disappear).

hush and gaslight i can live without them
i honestly dont even know what RIP is
Long Halloween and Year One. I never liked TDKR much, CoO is normie bait, Knightfall is bloated, Gotham by Gaslight is a novelty, Hush is bad, RiP is pointless.
TDKR and The Killing Joke
simple as
I narrowed it down to Year One, DKR, Gotham By Gaslight, Killing Joke, and RIP
Narrowing it down to two is a tough call, but I'd say Year One and Gotham By Gaslight
without Knightfall, we would live in a world without Baneposting
Killing Joke and Year One
The only right answer
I forgot to add, my picks are Year One and TDKR.
Also, check out this storytime
Killing Joke and Knightfall
Very easy decision
So far:
>Year One
5
>TDKR
2
>Court of Owls
0
>The Killing Joke
4
>Knightfall
3
>Gotham by Gaslight
1
>The Long Halloween
3
>Hush

>RIP

Pretty surprised. I thought there'd be more love for TDKR and RIP.
>Very easy decision

More surprise. The suggestions for replacement are really no better than the items you want replaced, but whatever.
I mean Hush is okay. Beautiful art by Jim Lee. The interaction between Superman and Batman was awful. Made Superman look like... i don't know the Incredible Hulk. "oh no we need to calm Superman down. Put Lois in danger!" Terrible.
Abd like I said the only thing that changed was Riddler reveals he knows Bruce is Batman and that stayed for one or two years.
Court of Owos does not matter at all. If you simply told a story were the Waynes, Pikneys, Elliots, Falcones, Maronis, and Cobblepots worked together to take a piece of Gotham it would be much better. We already have the League of Assassins as the shadowy underground figures. Iwls were just unnecessary only added to go along with Damian's introduction.
Yeah, I'm definitely going to remove Owls and Hush and add more stuff. I didn't make the image in the OP (it's from Google Images), but I'm surprised by all the Knightfall votes.
No Knightfall means no Azrael. Possibly no Bane. And its the first time you see Batman pushed to his limit and getting a real defeat.
I'm more surprised at the vites for Gotham by Gaslight. I read it once and my biggest takeaway was Catwoman was a prostitute (which Year One and TDKR did already) and Joker was Jack the Ripper (We aoready have Cornelius Stirk and Victor Zsasz)
Year One and the Long Halloween
Long Halloween and Knight Fall
Killing Joke and Knightfall
The others aren't a big loss.
Who would ever pick anything other thanYear One and DKR? Killing Joke, Court of Owls, Long Halloween, Hush, all overrated.
Only books I'd miss are Knightfall, Gotham by Gaslight and RIP
Honestly I find DKR tremendously overrated. Just feels very dated with its politics and Batman doesn't feel like a cool gothic urban legend for most of it, with a few choice bits. DKR is a great comic, but I didn't find it a particularly great Batman comic, if that makes sense. the themes are very general, Bruce doesn't even care about Alfred's death and Gordon drops off the later half of the book.
I totally get that you've never read a Batman comic older than 1986, if that's what you mean.
But that's the thing, my favorite Batman comics are mostly 70's/80's/90's ones. I like Batman as a creeping creature of the night who's still human. There's moments in DKR I love and exemplify that, mostly from the first book or two, but overall its just not something I want from a Batman story.
Wtf are you talking about? TDR is the blueprint for super autist batman in modern depictions.
I'm starting to find it underrated.
TDKR is partly about succumbing to the Batman side of himself and losing his Bruce Wayne persona.
Anyway, I never really cared for the more human portrayals of Batman. I liked it in Year One and like you said, early in TDKR, but that's about it.
Year One and The Long Halloween
Long Halloween and DKR. Inject Dent in my veins
Killing Joke and Gaslight since they're problematic
Knightfall and The Long Halloween
The Long Halloween and RIP
It's not even close
dark knight returns
year one
and its not even close
Has there ever been any material specifically about how batman really doesnt need joker, but joker does need batman? I always found the
>Joker needs batman and batman needs joker
meme to be kinda gay. Unless you mean joker like symbolically of crime and chaos in general, but even then batman can just find that in a harvey or a penguin.
Joker going Sane. Basically Joker thinks Batman is dead so he decides to try living like a normal person.
thanks.
Year One because its a good Batman origin. Long Halloween is a good Two Face Origin. Frick the Dark Knight Returns. Frank Millar at his worst.
I'm glad we can be open about not liking DKR in this thread. I still like the book but man there's so much that sits wrong with me
Always thought this page was corny. You can tell Frank just wanted to do the imagery. Just feels really on the nose. Obviously Batman is an American character who lives in america, but actually putting him with the American flag just looks weird.
Maybe this sounds autistic? I don't know. For what its worth my most disliked Batman storyline is probably the initial KG Beast storyline precisely because framing Batman as living in a late 80's Cold War era just seems so stupid.
Personally him turning Superman into a government stooge was the line for me. Also Batman having a midlife crises while Gotham is overrun with criminals is not good. It should have been another superhero. Maybe Robin.
I mean... I dont think its all that weird imagery wise. Batman is one of those characters really tied to a "theme" and sense of "place". Hes north east coast somewhere between maryland and Massachusetts Americana. And his usual creedo is pretty reflective of a certain Americanness of freedom and order and doing it yourself. And I dont mean a broad americanness like captain america, but a more particular one.
BUT REGARDLESS I CAN UNDERSTAND BEING IFFY ON DKR.
I think its just Frank Millar wanking off America. I mean the guy wrote a whole story about Batman killing Osama Bin Laden after 9/11. He'd be better at writing Captain America or Superman
You ignorant chickenshit.
I get it to an extent, but that page is so overt and blunt, plus the fact that its often used as a defining image of the book, just makes it seem very superficial and pandering for the imagery.
IDK why I capslocked
I dont mind a little bit of americawank. golden median and all. I can understand it because the whole batschtick is one of masks and symbols and cowls and singular, self destructive, willpower.
I dont disagree. there can be a point where its Gauche.
I personally love this page. It's a fun little commentary on the American military industrial complex and their frick ups during the Cold War. Plus, it looks cool.
It's completely fine if you don't like it.
Just know that your opinion is completely disregarded because you can't even bother to spell the guy's name correctly.
Shit my bad. I get the Kick-Ass guy mixed with the 300 guy. My bad
That happens a lot around here.
I like it, but I understand. I've always kind of liked it. Even Golden Age comics like Plastic Man had him beating up Jap spies. But you're right, there are some places satire and politics just don't belong.
>I personally love this page. It's a fun little commentary on the American military industrial complex and their frick ups during the Cold War. Plus, it looks cool.
I'd agree and I actually like Miller's satire, it just feels out of place in a Batman book. fundamentally Miller's Batman is just too different from what I want out of Batman.
If I had to pick 2 they wouldn't be on this list
and for clarification, they were the one-two punch that was Death in the Family and Under the Red Hood because Jason is based.
When you say Knightfall gets erased does that erase everything directly related? Such as Knightquest and Azrael?
With Killing Joke at least you can have an implied stiry of Joker crippling Barbara and creating Oracle. With Hush this was the story where Riddler admits he knows Batmans identity but its not focused on in following stories.
Personally instead of Knightfall I would have had Under the Red Hood.
Replace Batman R.I.P. and Githam By Gaslight with No Man's Land and Under the Hood.
I choose Batman: Year One and TDKR,
Year one, TDKR.
Evry other tale is too short, or fricks everything up before the finish.
