At first she's worried that she's going crazy, then she accepts that she must be crazy and eventually she doesn't care whether she is or isn't crazy. The spider gives her advise, and she becomes a bit less insecure, and she finally asks out the coworker she likes.

It takes place about 50ish years in the future where the government razed half a dozen cities in order to make a lab where it can provide an alternative to cloning, the process which this is achieved is with actively modifying the genetics of citizens of said cities, and making them suck and frick.

Plot revolves around a Chinese kung-fu Tiger dude who is the son of a great master. He is a reasonably thoughtful and righteous young man, but unknown to anyone, his insecurities about living up to his father's reputation have led to him developing a darker side. When his fiance is murdered by a corrupt lord, Tiger dude goes apeshit and murders the lord in cold blood.
Now wanted for murder, Tiger dude is either banished to or forced to flee to Japan. There he meets Dragon (an anthro eastern dragon), who is a highly-skilled Samurai. Dragon is pleasant, wise, and easygoing, and tries to help Tiger deal with his anger, as well as the guilt he feels for disgracing his family.
However, while we at first think Dragon is "the wise one" and Tiger is "the angry judgmental one," we soon realize that despite his pleasant personality, Dragon is rather complacent in the face of societal injustice (poverty, corruption, etc.) while Tiger's high moral standards compel him to fight against it. We also soon learn that Dragon has (to his shame) been complicit in killing innocent people on the orders of his past lords.
Now these two martial artists, both flawed in their own way and with blood on their hands, must come together to redeem themselves and fight against various villains across Feudal Japan and China.

I stared at her blankly for a nine-months pregnant pause, and asked her what the frick she meant by that. Like, THAT IS a fascinating idea, but it is only half an idea. What's the hook? What's the turn? She could never give me one and I could never formulate one.
Every once in a while I bring it up to her, because holy shit that was, to me, a bizarre thing to free-associate into half-existence.
What do you think the hook could be? WHY are they doing that? WHAT are they getting out of it? HOW might their ritual backfire on them in ways less obvious than low-level stealing?

I have more detailed vision of what that might look like but I've learned to really hate how dump short descriptions of things sound. I feel like I need to make a multi page long document or at least learn to make a drawing or two in order to not feel embarrassed.

She sees all the Kaiju toys her son has displayed in his room, and she starts to conjure a mystical gypsy spell. She comes from a long line of gypsies, a secret she has kept from her husband and her son, and powerful gypsy spells have been secretly passed down through her bloodline for centuries.
She casts a spell on her son that his 2 favorite Kaiju, Karaka and Tekzok, replace both of his hands. Now 2 kaiju, much smaller but just as fierce, fight constantly with each other, and her son no longer has hands for self-pleasure or to play video games. The mother hopes her son gets so sick of Kaiju on his arms fighting constantly that he will beg his mom to take them away and he will get his life back on track, get a job, get a girlfriend and leave kaiju behind.

Definitely needs to be a brainiac who is constantly worried about a butterfly effect.
