Ah, thanks. If that's the case and the design still technically belongs to the team, then re-tooling the character in this fashion to use her again... isn't the absolute worst, but it still doesn't feel very right either.
Shima's original VA disappeared for years because of personal/private issues. Dolan stated in a video that she's at least alive and safe but mainly keeping to herself and doesn't want a known online presence. Not using the character of Shima ever since that incident was both a way to respect her VA's situation and to also just avoid some awkward stuff with the whole thing.
Surely there's still a large association of Shima with her original VA, but if she never plans on being active in internet spaces and isn't attached to the character anymore, then the only main hang-up I would have is if Dolan didn't at least ask or discuss bringing the character back with Shima's original VA. Just as a courtesy to see how she felt about it, y'know.
But even then, if the character wasn't explicitly her creation in the first place, then Dolan would be in the "right" to eventually use Shima again if he wanted to, since Shima was created for his show. Even with how off-putting and muddled the whole thing is, "disrespectful" seems too strong to describe this decision of his, but it's definitely not "great".
Sure, they're within their full legal right to use the character, but the shitty part is that the original VA was pretty much entirely tied to the character, and when that VA suddenly disappeared off the face of the internet, they stopped using the character.
...and now they're bringing the character back, but surprise, with a brand new and completely different VA. It's just a little bit massively disrespectful.
I don't think she designed the character, Dolan hired her after making an icon for the channel and because he liked her ability to narrate, told her the concept of the character she would be and just went with it until she left I think

Yeah, as personal as it can get for some people, these cartoon characters are still just cartoon characters. You have to be prepared as a VA/creator/whatever for when they potentially fall out of your hands for one reason or another.
As disinterested as I am in Planet Dolan as a whole, Shima's history has always been somewhat intriguing to me and now we're getting some more official content of a new version of her character.

I wasn't even a big dolan fan when it was relevant, so I genuinely don't care either way.
I know what it's like to make something, see it get big(or big-ish), and then spend years not coming up with a sequel after the first thing dies. It sucks, and I can empathize with dolan, but trying to revitalize it will always look pathetic unless you come back an order of magnitude stronger than the original thing. I know from experience.
