because metallica is heavy metal that normies can get into
anyone big into metal in the 80s would be listening to megadeath, pantera, slayer, etc.
there was a lot of good shit other than metallica

seek and destroy would have worked well. I got into that song when I saw Sting the wrestler come out to it in WCW

it's a subtle reference that only true metalheads AND fans of the series(quite small demographic) would catch
you see, as it turns out, Vecna (the villain) was controlling the villains from the past seasons, effectively making him a "Master of Puppets"

Even metalheads who like other bands more know Metallica was by far and away the most widely known and popular metal band at the time. Even within those circles, Master of Puppets has been recognized by many as one of the greatest metal albums of all time. The hatred that rightfully follows the band members doesn't change how popular and influential their music was.

      Got cut off...

Master if puppets was a proper fit to the feel and theme if their situation as well as being such a massively popular song of their time would have been the logical pick for a song he would have ready to go on a whim.

Vecna controls all the creatures and vines. Also when he kills people they float in the air and jerk around like puppets
    Hence master of puppets.

    >S4 takes place in March 1986
    >Master of Puppets is the third studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released on March 3, 1986, by Elektra Records.

They chose this song for two reasons, Eddie wasn't just a Metal head, he knew his shit and as soon as Metallica came out with a new album he grabbed his guitar and learned MoP asap. Second, and more obviously, Vecna is a "Master of Puppets" as seen during his fatality and his ability to manipulate people. Pure kino writing, well thought out.

Why didn't they just hook up a stereo or something? That way it'd keep distracting the bats up until they broke into the trailer and destroyed the equipment - which is longer than they could keep playing the guitar. It would be safer and it would free up two guys to do something else.
