Yes, we need people to take on different roles in society..I know this is a difficult concept for you to follow,as you seem only capable of projecting strawmen, but nobody likes troons becaude they wre clearly mentally disturbed. It takes training (or indoctrination) to be able to deal with them, so it would be best for everyone if they were put into institution with people who could handle them and give them the treatment they deserve.

        https://wildlife.org/frogs-change-sex-even-in-natural-settings/

        >Frogs can change their sex even in pristine, pollution free settings. Past research suggested that male-to-female sex changes happening in frogs in suburban ponds may be caused by increased levels of estrogen released into the water. They found more female frogs than males in suburban areas. But now a new study by the same scientists finds that green frogs (Rana clamitans) change sex even in natural, unadulterated settings relatively free from human-caused pollution. The authors of the study speculate that the frogs are instead reacting to local changes in temperature or other environmental factors. As far as they know, frogs can only change sex during their tadpole phase.

Couldn't they have maybe made a new character for it? Sure people will still shit on it as everyone is entitled too, but I feel just maybe Ralph having a cousin or Ed perhaps finding out he has a daughter he never knew about and upon meeting with them that's when the reveal drops.

It's just lazy or spiteful writing. It would create much less friction to make an alternate universe Superman who's black and not named Clark Kent then it would be to just make Clark black. I don't like Miles Morales as much as Peter Parker. But at least it's being done... somewhat better.

Stopped reading there. No they couldn’t make a new character. That fricks up the joke. The joke is that Mr Bighead’s repeated slogan in the Ralph episodes is “I have no son.” The punchline is that his son, Ralph, transitions and ironically the statement takes on new meaning. It doesn’t fricking work with different characters.

Permanently making a character transgender for one joke is next level comedy. There's commitment to the bit, and then there's this movie/special.

                Anonymous

I thought Static Cling was okay, but disappointing. Not so much because of the trans thing (though

It should've been Mr. Bighead transitioning into Edna. Would've been way funnier. Imagine Bev yelling at him, reminding him to take his estrogen. Imagine him trying to regain his manhood with Rocko and the boys. He rediscovers his masculinity through gaming. Unfortunately it's too late, and the estrogen has made Mr. Bighead very sick. He's taken to the hospital. But he still wants out to compete in the big speedrunning tournament. Mr. Bighead asks Rocko if he'll go on "one last Warthog run" with him. Then Rocko helps bust him out from the hospital, pushing his hospital bed while the Halo theme plays. At one point, Mr. Bighead can shoot milk from his breasts to make the guards slip.

After escaping, Ed (no longer Edna) wins the tournament. He doesn't have much time left. He asks Rocko to finish him off with the ultimate gamer move - the 360 no-scope. Rocko reluctantly replies, 360 no-scoping Mr. Bighead as Cid's theme from FFVII plays. Filbert and Heffer watch as the sunsets, and Mr. Bighead eats the bullet.

"That was a hoot!" says Heffer.

is true, Mr. Bighead transitioning would've been funnier). That didn't bother me much. I just thought the pacing was weird, Static Cling felt like it was too short. I was expecting a big adventure to find Ralph/Rachel or something.

I think that was just about closeted queer characters in general. Lots of shows did gags like that back then because the network wouldnt let them have gay cartoon characters, like in Static Shock.

              >nobody even knew that there was a trans character before the special.
Does that have anything to do with what I said? My point was that they made the character trans as a sort of joke that relates to something another character said. Why would it matter if anyone knew before hand?

            Anonymous

It's real and it was mostly bad with a few mildly amusing gags. The tone of the whole thing was way too preachy, basically telling the viewer to let go of the past. Overall, a pretty big letdown.

It wasn't funny at all. Felt more like a Captain Planet episode about accepting trannies.

You keep thinking it was a joke, when Joe Murray went on and on about how great and brave he was for including a trans character. No jokes were made at Ralph's expense. No jokes were made about how he changed sex. It was just another thing for the special's message of accepting that things change.

I think that's what really annoys me about the special, it didn't even have the balls to have the whole cast react in a realistic way. Finding out a friend you haven't seen in years transitioned is NEVER something a normal person would be hyped for, that is a Twitter reaction. It's a sudden, drastic change that people need time to adjust to, especially someone from the 90s.

Heffer didn't have to be an outright bigot, but he could've started off understandably weirded out by the revelation, but not outright hostile like Bighead, only to grow into accepting it. Meanwhile Rocko and Filburt are just sort of neutral since they don'treally give a shit, they just want the show back. But why even have this subplot if its just going to boil down to yet another "Daddy doesn't accept me for who I AM, WAH!" plot?

Canonically Heffer would be happy, because his brother is gay.

Heffer himself is kind of a gay/trans metaphor. He's a steer raised by wolves for the specific reason of eating him. However Heffer ended up being loved and adopted by the wolfe family.

His grand parent specifically don't understand why a steer is part of the family and not food.

I think that's a stretch, besides a heifer being a "young, female, domestic bovine that has not produced offspring." And a steer is a "young neutered male cattle primarily raised for beef." It was just a standard case where the obviously adopted character doesn't realize it.

He would if the situation in the movie called for Rocko to focus on Ralph as a character and buddy but the movie showed he had tunnel vision and mainly focused on getting the fatheads back. I get what anon's saying, I don't know why you don't.

        > Finding out a friend you haven't seen in years transitioned
Heffer and Ralph were never really good friends. Rocko and his buddies were fans of Ralph’s work who met him on a few select occasions and helped him out with some family drama in order to prod him into making more cartoons for them.

        > its just going to boil down to yet another "Daddy doesn't accept me for who I AM, WAH!"
That plot was like half of Ralph’s whole character. It’s normal for them to recycle it.

Maybe for the normal show, but it feels like a waste for a reunion special that for all intents and purposes was made as a soft series finale. Compare it to the other reunion specials like Enter the Florpus and The Jungle Movie and it's easily the weakest of the three.

It was an ice cream truck.

He quit doing cartoons and just sold off model ice cream. Which apparently was enough to pay for his lifestyle

Yeah, also funny in the movie it's Rocko who ends up being the villain despite accepting Rachel he himself couldn't handle the change of his favorite cartoon and it's Mr. Bighead who ends up telling Rocko to accept change otherwise he'll lose out on life passing him by.

You should be tired of nostalgia anyway. you're so easily manipulated by your childhood. this special was boring and making Ed a troony was a cover for the dull writing. Notice how you're not talking about the lack of funny lines and instead fixating on one character. your better off re-watching old episodes or reading a goddamn book.

Rocko was more upset that they added a baby character.

As he should be, baby characters always suck. Usually a sign that a show is dying and they're desperate.

Yea, I hate when this happens. Something new comes out and you can never have threads or conversations about the media the same way again. That's why I hate knowing King of The Hill is getting revived. Once that shit's out there's going to inevitably be something that changes how it's seen and discussed forever, the current way threads and people's love for it exists will be gone.

I'll be positive and say my favorite Rocko joke. It's the mall episode. Heffer and Rocko are driving around in a parking lot. Heffer tells Rocko to follow a guy, under the guide that he's walking to his car. They follow him but the guy gets kind of sketchy eventually trying to shake them.

He eventually confronts them asking why they're following him. He says he was actually a little kid and got lost from his mommy. The implications this kid is now a full grown adult endlessly wandering the parking lot unable to find a way out.

So what does Rachel get to do that Ralph couldn't? Wear dresses and have long hair? What, men can't do those things? I guess not without societal disapproval, but how's it going to get better if instead of fighting for being able to live stylishly, you declare that men actually CAN'T do what you're doing and you're a woman instead?

Basically trans people have made the world more sexist.

Correct, the entirety of trans ideology hinges on the contradiction that gender norms are made-up, but also people who don't conform to gender norms are actually the gender they "feel the most like" and if you disagree you are disagreeing with facts.

It's both depressing and hilarious seeing the ultrafeminists who don't buy into trans shit get so mad that men who want to wear dresses are making the argument that all the shit they fought against being forced on women for so many years is what actually makes people women, and they're succeeding.

Wasn't this character a creator self insert? Like not a 1:1 self insert but a character that generally expresses the experiences, struggles and frustrations of the creator as an animator?
This is one of the most intense cases of
