Podracing was fricking awesome. Why does it never make another appearance? Its not in Mandalorian or any other spinoff. It really deserved its own film spinoff far more than Solo or Rogue One did.

prequels are shit
sequels are shit
cartoons are slop
disney is for homosexuals
lucas is a moron
OT is pretty good
Nog bad.
gendywars and vidya and ESB are it buddy boy. u r gay
All of them are shit
There's a podracing mini-game in Knights of the Old Republic
That's swoop racing, a completely different sport.
swoop racing is not that different from podracing
but the N64 podracing game is much better than the garbage swoop racing minigame
Dumb zoomer
The star wars racer remake for switch is the only game aside from house of the dead that improve with motion control. Pure kino
So back before Disney took over and discarded all the old lore.
How about the actual Podracer game? On N64 and in arcades.
Kino. They could do with a little more rust.
Disney, stop making shit no one wants to watch and just fund a damn Podracing movie.
I don't think Paul Walker is available
He can if they cast him as a force ghost.
Paul Skywalker
Humans can't podrace unless they're strong with the force, and you know instead of a badass alien guy the main character is going to be a 12 year old mullato force sensitive girl
I'll just wait for the culture to cycle back to the 90s or 2000s.
what are they gonna do when Sebulba starts calling the girls bawds or slapping their ass
When your 1997 VFX moggs anything made today.
Artists Vs Sweatshops
just re-watched the prequels few days ago. the pod race scene still dazzles. its incredibly well done, with maggie gyllenhaal and "ARRRAGHH" it has it all
>maggie gyllenhaal
>with maggie gyllenhaal
>It really deserved its own film spinoff
you guys always say this and act like it'd ever have any chance of being kino. The's no more story to it. Just crashes, a bunch of people we don't know blow up and die, and someone wins. Only human who could do it was Anakin. It only works as a game where it's actually interest fans and they can play it over and over without needing any character arcs, tension, etc that movies/shows need
I recommend the movie Redline for a similar vibe.
>Redline
never heard of it but just watched the trailer and I'm fricking sold, thanks for the rec
Enjoy anon. I wish I could have the feeling of watching it again for the first time
Enjoy, the making of Redline was pretty much the Pickets Charge of hand drawn animation. 12 years of animation converged into animated kino.
>dad's google history
>Only human who could do it was Anakin.
And what's your source on that? Oh yeah that's right, it was Anakin, who was a 10 year old slave at the time, who only raced a couple of times on Tatooine.
It could easily be explained that human Pod Racers are a rarity. Or the main character could even be an near-human alien like a Mirialan or something.
You just sound like an unimaginative homosexual.
>Anakin, being a boastful young boy, claims to be only human to be able to podrace
>Qui Gon tells him he must have Jedi reflexes then
Did you even watch the movie? That exchange is what first piques Qui Gon's curiosity about Anakin's Force sensitivity.
This. Lucas milked it for all it was worth in ep. 1. Great scene but no need to do it again
A stand alone movie or series just wouldn’t be that great imo. Especially now with the mouse destroying the IP.
Back in the day a short or web series would have been fun to watch but the cost vs. revenue generated from probably would have never gotten green lit.
I loved playing the racing game on N64 back in the day.
Based. I'vr been thinking about rebuying it for the switch. It's a double feauture with the other one being Star Wars:Republic Command and I haven't played that one.
>Star Wars:Republic Command and I haven't played that one.
You should then. If you like Halo and Rainbow Six Vegas you'll love Republic Commando. Don't let the hype get to you though. It is a product of it's time. Some jank here and there but it is still one of my most favorite games of all time.
There are few weapons more based than the vibroblade gauntlet in all of STAR WARS.
Ok, thanks, I'll definitely pick it up then. It's 20 euros for both, so pretty good value.
I got the N64 pack that included this game(and was one of the few games I even owned), even bought the expansion pack so the graphics would look better.
>ITS A NEW LAP RECORD!
take me back
>Implying Disney gives a frick about good Star Wars content
They’ve saved billions on tax write offs.
>quadrinero
>has four engines
Lucas is a genius.
forgot pic
Why wasn't he way faster than everyone else?
boeing pod racer
lmao
Nomen est Omen or Nominalistic Determinism.
>implying if your name lent itself to doing something cool you wouldn't do it
ngmi
I'd love to watch this scene with high quality audio again. Anything else that raises the hair on one's neck and arms?
You need to watch it on a home theater system. I have it on laserdisc and it apparently has a better 6.1 mix than DVD or modern Bluray because it's uncompressed
seconding this. It is amazing to hear the different sounds. Every pod has its own noise theme.
it makes an appearance in episode 2
>podrace in tpm
>like 90% of drivers die in horrible crashes
>nobody takes notice even though they are all supposed to be established names
Because it happens all the time, especially if Sebulba's racing.
>It really deserved its own film spinoff
Anon...
Imagine a Ford v Ferrari style podracing movie
>podracing movie
>100% alien cast (no humans)
>tour different planets just like the N64 days
>Fankie Muniz (Xfinity) as Gasgano
>Michael Fassbender (Le Mans) as Sebulba
It would be kino
>100% alien cast (no humans)
Might as well have it be animated.
because women can't drive, so no girl boss protagonist would be able to be the star of a podracing centered film
it's fiction anon, they would only make it with a girl boss protag
You are partially correct. The real issue is that women are not excited about cars and racing the way that men are, so they can't connive of a podracing franchise that would make billions of dollars and win new (hispanic) fans.
Yes it was great. The fact that they made them look vaguely chariot like, the classic 90s high rev NA V10 engine sound of ani's podracer, the dakar sandBlack folk terrorizing the competitors, the speed and how well it fit into both the story and the worldbuilding. Prequel haters have to be women, simple as.
>Prequel haters have to be women, simple as.
Nah, they like Anakin and Obi-Wan. It's just the endless b***hing of disgruntled nerds as always.
>Prequel haters have to be women, simple as.
i was in middle school when the prequels came out and i was in the gifted education program. there was an autistic girl who used to always write my name all over her binders/books/etc with hearts and shit and it annoyed me.
until Attack of the Clones came out and she dropped me for obi-wan and started writing obi-wan all over her binders(including her new binder with obiwan on the fricking thing). i got cucked by AOTC obiwan kenobi when i was 12 years old.
ergo. not all prequel haters are girls. some are autists who want to slurp obi-wans lightsaber.
watch the RLM reviews
>they have hovercrafts and speeder bikes
>pod racer is a hover carriage that somehow needs to be pulled by engines from the front, which are also up on hovers
Shit is gay and confusing
You're just autistic.
scifi racing games should/could have become a big part of star wars if it wasnt mismanaged by morons at disney.
in the old lore, han solo was a SWOOP BIKE racer on corellia. imagine if the HAN SOLO movie had a 20 minute long flying motorcycle/swoopbike race on par with the pod racing scene the phantom menance, but grittier and through scifi slums.
then imagine the han solo movie was a big success and the accompanying STAR WARS: HAN SOLO: SWOOP RACER game became a best seller. with super fast flying bikes and sneaky weapons and a story mode where you have to race against the whole underworld while also being hunted by boba fett, etc.
the han solo movie should have been more like a scifi Fast & Furious just full of races, chase scenes, and star wars technobabble fanservice.
And make Luke look even MORE like a b***h?
The 90s were flush with sci fi racers that Podracer could barely compete with.
>Mega Race series
>Biker Mice From Mars
>F-Zero series
>Extreme G series
>Jet Moto series
>POD series
>The 90s were flush with sci fi racers that Podracer could barely compete with.
>>Mega Race series
Mice From Mars
>>F-Zero series
G series
>>Jet Moto series
>>POD series
are you moronic? back then Star Wars Episode 1 Podracer outsold all of those games, becoming an instant best seller, including the "leaders" of the nich scifi racing genre such as F-Zero, Wipeout, and Extreme GF. The rest of the games you mentioned are niche garbage no one has ever heard of bro. Meanwhile Episode 1 Podracer is one of the most repurchased/googled n64 games, period.
nevermind the market for "scifi" racing games in the 90s being irrelevant today/when the han solo movie came out in 2018. the market is ripe for GOOD star wars games but all we get is trash from EA now under Disney.
instead of having han solo race swoop bikes in the HAN SOLO MOVIE - han gets one-upped by a mulatto ginger minge negress who has a gang of swoop bikers. they purposely decided to emasculate the han solo character, yet again, by taking away part of his lore and giving it to some Black mulatto woman.
>in the old lore, han solo was a SWOOP BIKE racer on corellia
He was also raised by Wookiees. Kind of a Tarzan situation. We were gonna see him on Kashyyyk in Episode III, but he got cut.
That and a Vader show or movie like pic related.
Watch the Plinkett reviews. He explains in detail why the prequels are quite awful.
Imagine a Disney Plus Podracing limited run 7 or 8 episode one season series.
Instead of stupid drama and dumb shit it is presented straight up like a serious sporting event, Nascar or other car racing on TV style, where each episode is a race on a different track. track interviews, driver interviews, all that. The final episode can be their version of the Daytona 500 or something.
Play it off straight though. I think it would be dines ngl
I'd be ok with a show but only if they bring back Ben Burtt for the sound design
Everything about it would be like watching car racing at home, they could really have fun with the sound design.
The more I think about it the more I think it's a brilliant idea ngl, but it has to be played off like a real sports broadcast so no scenes of the drivers at home, no dumb subplot where the female black driver is also a secret jedi working tot ake down the hutts who run the podracing, none of that. Just a straight up sports presentation, with a weekly scoreboard people can keep track of, driver points and a clear winner at the end of the season, all that.
I would allow Star Wars universe themed commercials during the broadcast picture in picture style or whatever, it would be entertaining.
This whole idea reminds me of the deleted introduction for the racers.
Sounds a bit like IGPX
Yes, but how can it be about a scrappy brunette mechanic (with force powers) who proves that girls can race too?
But she has Force powers. Her being a girl has nothing do with it. A girl with no force powers would die immediately.
The OT is lowkey kind of lame the more you think about it. PT Tatooine's got so much more to it than the OT ever did.
As a wee lad my brother and I would tip two dining chairs onto their backs and sit between the legs, hold the legs either side of our heads and pretend we were podracing while watching the scene.
That one where the kid grows up to be nuts.
His mother was raped and tortured to death. Most would do what he did if they had the power to do so.
According to STAR WARS Demolitions, it's because the Emperor outlawed podracing after the rise of the Empire. So Jabba came up with the demolition derbies to satiate the masses.
Disney had to gay it up and outlawed podracing in canon but then made riot racing, which is like podracing without the big engines and they have guns to blow each other up instead. I would love an entire series just focused on a podracing circuit. The characters would be a lot of fun.
Podracing was banned in the old EU too.
Only because the OT didn't have it, which is dumb as hell because the obvious explanation is that we just didn't see it because it wasn't relevant to the story.
Yeah but the problem I have with riot racing is they were originally going to make it podracing in the Bad Batch episode where it debuted, but then changed it just because. And then it still looks much like podracing still in the end so it doesn't feel like a different sport. They could have just done swoop racing or something instead of doing the typical Disney thing and taking something George created and watered it down to pass as their own thing.
It was banned because it was a sport associated with non-humans.
The Empire has no jurisdiction on Tatooine.
>Disney had to gay it up and outlawed podracing in canon but then made riot racing
this is disgusting+stupid. of course disney would do that.
>Cinemaphile loves the podrace scene
>podrace scene has Warwick Davis playing 3 characters
Yes, but that's because the Warwick Davises all get blown up in funny ways
Redline is enough.
I am genuinely convinced at this point that disney identifies what people like and doesn't do it because they want to get rid of the old fans.
>Its not in Mandalorian
This guy took a speeder bike chassis and hooked it into a pod racing thruster
Pod racing was always hamfistedly pandering slop. Hey let's take things people like and make them so literal and on-the-nose and force funny engine sounds ten times too loud in the mix so that 90iq nerds think that they 'really noticed the sound design'
You lot really do just love to b***h, don't ya?
We already have a movie like this. It’s called Grand Prix (1966) and George Lucas loved it so much the entire podracing scenes are directly influenced from said movie. Right down to the sequence of events, the flag opening, the way the shots are done, it’s literally a direct 1:1 reference.
Pic related is the flag opening in GP, same in Episode 1.
?feature=shared
Just watch this. You can see it yourself.
well lucas was a cameraman on that film
Good catch. I knew Lucas loved cars (the chase scene in THX1138) but had no idea about his involvment in making of grand prix. What a blessed timeline.
>Podracing was fricking awesome
frick no
the extended bullshit in the rerelease was annoying af
original was better
