Speaking of, what went wrong with that movie? It was supposed to be Henry Selick’s great comeback.
Plot was all over the place. It didn't know if it wanted to be a surreal tale about demons escaping not-hell with the help of a misfit, or a story about a dying rustbelt town fighting back against a big corp, or a story about how the foster/juvenile justice system is a broken mess.
It tried to be all three, never finishes developing its thoughts on any front, and ended up a tangled mess of sloppily reached conclusions.
An unfocused storyline that feels like it's made out of subplots. Unlikeable or just confusing characters. The stop motion animation in general is fine, but there's nothing notable. Coraline has so many impressive visual set pieces, and I couldn't remember one in this movie.
