What's more likely is that a piece of media contained a racial caricature that nobody cared about for years until some tards on the internet looked back on it and got retroactively upset about it. That usually doesn't change the fact that it was just as much a caricature in the past.

The entire reason for the change was to try to get onto the "good side" of the media optics of racial sensitivity in the wake of de-listing Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben. Lauren Chen voiced Connie and Minh, so she's fine there. I'd put this as a product of the times. Maybe some would find it insensitive, but it's just positive enough to not be blatantly racist.
