How did a scene that started out as people dressing however the frick turn into everyone looking exactly like that?

      >turn into everyone looking exactly like that?
Because you can only see/sense the nearly labeled units of consumption called Punk. Which is fair as the costumes and uniforms are made to stand out and help you categorize things. But for people who are true to the ethos and spirit of jt all they may dress that way but even more likely they are dressing a million frickin other ways. It's more about how someone interacts with the world then it is their costume, in terms of being punk or not.

Most the punks I know dress pretty casual. Nothing wrong with dressing like that but people who act hard and shame you for the way you dress are always deemed homosexuals in the groups I hang out around.

always makes me laugh when I hear punks say other people aren't punk because they don't dress the right way, no self awareness, nothing very punk about carefully styling your hair and making sure you have all your accessories on whats punk is me wearing the same jean shorts that I rolled around the mud in and threw up while wearing last few days

The people who get into the subculture are pretty much 100% mentally moronic schizos so logic doesn't work on them and they will never be self aware.

And as someone who has had the misfortune of living most of my life in Portland they were impressively hit-the-nail-on-the-head accurate. When I worked at a record store I would have to interact with people who acted literally exactly like that to the point of it being uncanny

I was a traving street punk and have a lot of friends like this some of them were straight buttholes who acted like they had every right to people's money but most were actually nice kids albeit alcoholics. I went through there about 10 years ago though I don't think I would ever go there these days unless all the tweaker and morons were purged.

I hate how modern punks cover their face in piercings half the time, I'm really into punk hardcore and all sorts of experimental music but I literally can't look at someone with a face full of piercings/tats its like looking at a troony I find their willingness to turn into abominations disturbing, how can they even look in the mirror?

      Anonymous

I don't really like piercings but for some reason those semi big bull piercings at kinda hot to me. Not too big but a nice size.
I think homosexual scene kids probably ruined lip and eyebrow piercings for me.
A ring in the nostril is really cute too.

I hate bull rings. The only way I can find them attractive is as a sign of total submissiveness and self-degradation, which is about as counter to the punk ethos as it gets.

Yeah I had a small one as a kid and was hitchhiking with a chick when some Black person crackhead ended up telling me he was going to frick my girl and rip out my piercing out of nowhere. I ended up kicking his ass but decided it wasn't the smartest piercing to have. It's kind of like having one eye if you're already missing an eye, that's the first thing some butthole is going to want to go for.

There's a short film from the 70s called "Ringer" by Jeff Lieberman about a marketing campaign to get young people to pierce their septums. It's hilarious.

I used to not like the Ramones for some reason but their below surface songs are actually hyper kino. Just found bonzo goes to bitburg the other day while watching school of rock to add to the list.

I didn't decide what looked good or bad to me its just a side effect of growing up, plenty of things I think are not the norm visually cause thats just how I came up, I like hairy legs and thick women for instance, punks can look good plenty of times but when they overdo it it becomes this obsessive consumerist thing where they turn their body into a key chain

People here who shit on Green Room are braindead /misc/ refugees who can't get over the concept of nazis being an movie antagonist without autistically screeching to high heaven about it. The movie us genuinely a fun and well made little low-mid budget suspense thriller with some absolutely kino death scenes.

          Anonymous

Green room was good but it isn't really a punk movie. I can see all that shit happening in real life the band playing dead Kennedys and the nazis all respecting their balls and letting them finish.

    >The Ramones: Half the band were hardcore conservatives.
    >Sex Pistols: Were always anti-authority regardless of who the authority was (Left or Right).
How do ~~*punks*~~ reconcile with these facts? The world's first two punk bands and neither were leftist.

For anyone paying attention I think you'll note that we are currently living in a golden age of counter culture. There's a myriad of different and overlapping groups and I'm sure they'll coalesce into something mainline identifiable soon. Lots of people are operating outside the system both against it and indifferent to it, now whether any of these groups will actually wage any kind of real influence remains to be seen but I am hopeful.

      Anonymous

None of it is genuine though. Most people just want to be able to label themselves as something.

        Anonymous

Was it ever genuine? It's been 60 years since the beginning of counter-culture as a mainstream youth thing, and the establishment, governments etc. have only gotten stronger. The same generation that started the hippie and anti-war movements are now in positions of power, where's that supposedly revolutionary spirit?

      >we are currently living in a golden age of counter culture.

Imagine, IMAGINE thinking this in the age of maxxvaxxed cattle that followed lines and allowed some minimum wage drone to check their medical records just because a Late Night Show host told them to.
There has never been a more bootlicking generation in history, hands down.
