Good firstbfew seasons, the next few gradually got worse, I have no idea how people can tolerate it at this point. There are way worse shows out there but FG definitely has the biggest gap in quality vs popularity.

I liked the pre-cancellation seasons. The post-cancellation stuff works better in short bursts. If family guy were regulated to shorter episodes of like, 10-15 minutes, there’d be no noticeable downgrade. Trim the fat, y’know?
Also Lois isn’t hot. To the Loisgays in this thread, you’re delusional.

Awful, but honestly, it's still funnier than anything Loren Bouchard or Matt Groening makes (or rather sponsors) today.

I feel like at a point Family Guy was filled with anger and hate. The but of the joke was someone gets punched for being annoying.

Almost like a group of people who hate each other forced to live in a house just getting angry at each other.

Post Disney buy has turned a lot of things around, the last Meg episode was actually funny.

Every joke is just bitterness, resentment and irony poison. Those writers seem like the most miserable people on the planet. They haven't even pretended to have a plot in an episode since like season 14

I dont find it funny, the animation terrible and it honestly seems to exist to fill a void in peoples lives. Every person I ask why they still watch it is because theres nothing else to watch or they for whatever reason want something to keep making noises in the background while they do something else.

I like current Family Guy because it just does not fricking care anymore and it's just fascinating to watch.

I stopped caring but it’s amazing to see how lazy they are with their jokes. Their jokes nowadays are just

As the entire joke. It’s a level of bare minimum I can only hope to achieve

See these days I feel like you can't be sure this isn't a bit. Back in the day, in the 00s, you could be guaranteed that you were looking at genuine schizo insanity. But everything is so ironic and post-ironic these days that now I feel like you can't be sure you're ever seeing the real shit.

I'm convinced it's a litmus test for autism
If you are obessed with it, you are too much of an irony poisoned zoomer who thinks Discord memes with the THUD mp4 are the peak of humour
If you hate it, you are probably a Mr Enter fan and think it's the worst blight to humanity
It's only been on for this long cause normies have it on a background noise cause they remember having a good time with the DVDs when they were younger, if they actually paid attention to it, they'd realize how awful it is

It's the perfect turn your brain off and enjoy kind of show. It's frustrating at first to get into because you have to relearn how to enjoy a show. Like you have to learn the characters don't matter and it's just a joke machine. I like it but I know what it is. Every time they try to be serious I die on the inside.

  24. 2 years ago

    Two thoughts.

The gags are funnier than the show itself.

Thinking that it's been on TV for over 20 years is a lot weirder than thinking The Simpsons has been on TV for 30.

I want a theatrical movie. Simpsons got a movie. Fricking Bob’s Burgers got a movie before Family Guy. Why can’t we have a movie?

It was would boarder on advant garde post modernism. 45% of the movie would be lienced music videos, the other 45% would Peter trying to pick up a dead frog, 9 would be a chicken fight and the last 1% would be everyone looking at the screen, making a joke what are their hopes of winning an Oscar even when they can't get an emmy and then Steewie calls the audience fricking stupid for paying money to see it

Family Guy manages to still get a laugh out of me now and then. The latest seasons have been trying something different, by using less cutaways and creating more gags from their plots.

Not every episode is a hit, but they manage to keep my attention most in the Sunday lineup. Bob's Burgers, a show I loved back in its first few seasons, has gotten so stale and for me and can be a chore to sit through (the movie was pretty good, though).

Comedy equivalent of throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. The only thing in that matters to the writers is getting a laugh out of the viewer, no matter how cheap. The characters don't matter if they want to do a dark joke they will have Carter mention molesting Lois. If they want to do a gore joke they will have Peter violently kill his whole family. They will contradict a character's history, beliefs, personality on a whim all just to get a joke out. In a lot of ways it is more like Aqua Teen than the Simpson's. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes the shit does stick and they get a laugh out of you.

      Pretty much this
When it fails it fails really fricking hard, but when it lands I'm audibly laughing and need to pause the episode. Most stuff is just middling though.
I haven't seen the most recent season but I wish they'd finally give up on the "sappy lesson learned moment of resolution" they feel the need to tack onto the ends of episodes. Who the frick wants that shit?

One of the weird things about later seasons is seing meg become a punching bad, then brian becoming meg 2, and then joe becoming meg 3
Also another weird one is cleveland going from a slow talking down to earth guy to black peter as the image goes. The really off-putting thing is that the 1st episode of cleveland show has him like his og personality but he becomes all quirky and nerdy by the second or third episode

I like Meg, and I've always liked Meg. It bothers the hell out of me when they use her as a punching bag. The jokes aren't even good most of the time, they're just mean spirited
