Cartoon Network shows had more cartoons that focused primarily on comedy than Nickelodeon, while Nickelodeon had more down to earth cartoons. For every Rocko's Modern Life, Angry Beavers, CatDog, SpongeBob, Rugrats, and Ren & Stimpy, there were 5 or 6 Ed, Edd n Eddy, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Cow & Chicken, or Billy & Mandys out there
wtf grow up
Ed, Edd n Eddy is better than most new shows "grown ups" watch. Id say the same about the others OP listed for CN besides Johnny Bravo and Cow&Chicken which are still decent. Only an insecure "adult" would think watching a cartoon makes them inherently childish many of us have kids
I was a CN kid, spent 90% of my time there. Nickgays were always weird to me. Their catalog was almost entirely inferior. And if you watched Disney Channel as a male, you were an actual homosexual.
I watched all 3, but Cartoon Network was superior. Also had the Adult Swim block. I know it's not Cartoon Network, but they get bonus points for not having to change the channel.
Nick had some cool shows. Disney had the movies. If you turned on Disney or Toon Disney late at night, they aired old ass Disney shows which was pretty based. I used to watch old ass goofy and mickey cartoons at like 3 am. I'm talking cartoons from the 1930s. Old.
CN kid 100% but Disney had rad movies. Also Phil of the Future if I remember correctly which had Aly Michalka in it who was my first Cinemaphile crush.
i liked that Hillary Duff show cuz i thought she was attractive
also, Suite Life Of Zack and Cody i thought was cool, made me wish i lived in a fancy hotel, haha
Disney Channel was best 1985 - 1994
Nickelodeon was best 1994 - 1998
CN was best 1998 - 2004
sponge and fairies go hard mate
even invader zim was pretty good for its short run
CN did do well up to about 04 though. but then anime started mogging everything
Also hot take
Dexter's Laboratory focused on comedy more than Jimmy Neutron and people will probably think i'm crazy for that. Both are comedies, but Jimmy Neutron had more slice of life, down to earth moments to it, even if it was still a really weird show
The hot take is while CN city era was the best of Cartoon Network in terms of aesthetics, it was actually the downfall of the network
>Toonami moved to weekends
>Adult Swim becomes its own network and starts to spam low-effort shit every night instead of just being "Hanna Barbera after dark" and part of CN proper, only a 2-3 days a week
>Last Hanna-Barbera classic shows move to Boomerang
>Kids WB shows all removed from network
>Fricking Miguzi
You also forgot that the Cartoon Cartoons were being phased out, even reruns. There were only like four exceptions, with three of those four still airing new episodes
SpongeBob is the greatest cartoon of all time
nothing will compare to seeing Ren and Stimpy for the first time.
Ultimate nostalgic autism time
Where did you get that from?
Anybody who willingly brings life into this world or irresponsibly spawns life is disgusting to me. They're also so uncaring of others, that to me it borders malice
Do you have these in non-potato quality higher than 4MB?
Ren & Stimpy is the greatest cartoon of all time.
Dexter's Lab, Courage, Ed Edd, n Eddy
Johnny Bravo, Foster's Home, Tom & Jerry, KND, Billy & Mandy, Scooby Doo, Samurai Jack, Powerpuff Girls, Flinstones, Smurfs, Jetsons, there were a ton of great shows.
Add in the foreign ones that got aired on there as well.
As someone who grew up in Canada, YTV had a larger variety of shows but Teletoon had some really obscure shit and more Adult oriented content, a lot of the HBO or other cartoons that only aired for like 1 season or something. They also had obscure kino like Cybersix. They had Downtown, The Maxx, John Callahan's Quadsa (absolute degeneracy), kino like Mission Hill before even Adult Swim had Mission Hill, Undergrads. YTV was mainly where you went for most anime like Gundam Wing, Dragonball Z, Escaflowne, all the standards like Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh and other shounens. My memory is hazy but I think eventually, long after I had stopped watching maybe, they aired Ghost in the Shell SAC and other series. No catalog anywhere as prolific as Toonami/Adult Swim, mind you. I remember during Christmas one year YTV aired Gundam Wing Endless Waltz for 24 FRICKING HOURS.
As for the Cartoon Network stuff, Ed Edd n Eddy was Teletoon. Samurai Jack was YTV. Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls YTV...
Where I lived with my cable package we didn't get WB Kids or any of that shit which I know aired Yu-Gi-Oh when I was staying in a hotel in Banff.
What was TV like in Canada. I know you guys got a lot of US TV, but i always wondered.
A lot of the same shows as the US got but obviously not the same channels as I mentioned. A lot of Canada originals too because Canada literally has broadcasting mandates to encourage and enforce the production and promotion of Canadian made programming so everything isn't just dominated by American media.
If you look up "YTV bumpers" or "YTV commercials" or "Teletoon" commercials from like the late 90s to the early 00s you'll see the "anime takeover" that happened all the same in America on Cartoon Network and also get a feel for what TV was like for kids there like me.
(absolute kino drug commercial)
Reboot and Beast Wars (Beasties in Canada because CAN'T SAY WAR) were pretty big here particularly because they were Canadian made.
Note I lived in Western Canada which is English speaking, Alberta aka basically the Texas of Canada, and isn't like Quebec and super autistic about French language laws. I couldn't tell you what Canadians in Quebec grew up with.
Looks cool.
CyberSix was some kino animated series sort of early pseudo-western anime style based on a French (as in France, not French Canada) comic series that aired on Teletoon at night. It was about some genetically engineer mutant woman who hid her secret identity by posing as a male school teacher during the day fighting monsters and goons created by the kid scientist who created her at night. With her hyper intelligent panther companion (non-speaking but human intelligence also maybe her brother in a panther body don't remember) named Data7.
sounds cool
I'm still amazed (happy) that the troons neva found this show
They have. Calling her trans is as fricking batshit fricking moronic as calling Mulan trans.
>Thought Slime
I should've known.
I hate this so much. I could make a video proving that cars is just a retelling of jesus' life. This is so moronic
I'm tired of these people, honestly anyone who forcefully inserts their ideals into completely unrelated stuff.
I once went to a discord related to this show when I was looking for translations of the French comic and it was full of trannies who would go out of their way to convince people not to translate the comic because it was "problematic". Fricking troons ruining everything they touch.
Late Zoomers and beyond will not understand. They simply are unable to. CN is one of those things you’ll tell young people about as something you watched as a kid. The idea of TV That isn’t immediately on demand is a foreign concept to them.
Ed, Edd and Eddy has absolute god- tier sound design
And speaking of sound design. 90's anime + rock music was the greatest thing to ever happen which is why Ocean/Funimation dub is superior to the original Japanese.

Kino…
>Ren and Stimpy
>down to earth
It wasn't, that's why I said for every zany cartoon Nick had like Ren & Stimpy, Rocko, SpongeBob, Rugrats, CatDog, Angry Beavers, etc., CN had 5 or 6 more
One lemonade please!
Looks like a creepypasta
I'm latin, and sadly, here we never had many cool things like the cn blocks. I was just reading about the miguzi drawing contest, that sounds great. But they still aired old shows like dexter's lab, ppg, and johnny bravo. We also had some bumpers, I remember many of the city ones.
I also watched a channel called tooncast. I really loved it! Classic looney tunes shorts and Hanna Barbera shows, more 90s and early 2000s cartoon network shows that I didn't know about (like 2 stupid dogs), cartoons that weren't originally aired in cn (freakazoid), tv specials that were completely forgotten, groovies, etc.
Now the channel is trash, just like cartoon network. Before, cn commercials and promos were really good. Nowadays they're just clips and powerpoint slides.
>hot takes
Cow and chicken, and foster's home were unfunny
I doubt this will affect anyone here, but adventure time and gravity falls were responsible for the huge downfall in cartoon's quality. Also phineaa and ferb, but at least it was good (mostly in season 1)
And the hottest take: aeon flux isn't anime. Peter Chung? I don't care
>Grimm goes mad
The live action tv shows were pretty bad.
Channel 24, Cartoon Network was for boys
Channel 25, Disney was for girls
Channel 26, Nickelodeon was for little kids, girls, and gays.
Channel 27, Discovery was for everyone who thought that listening to How It's Made, Deadliest Catch, and Mythbusters as background noise was for cool teenagers waiting to leave the only people who ever cared about them.
Channel 23 was the 24/7 israeliteelry shopping channel
CN had Powerpuff Girls which was girly as frick
PPG was metal as hell.
I was bullied for liking it in elementary so now I shit on it to try to be cool.
Don't let the bullies win, anon.
I get it, but we here today, brother. Enjoy what you like, just don't be a homosexual.
Power Puff Girls wasn't really girly. Sailor Moon was also for boys and girls, it was basically a shounen but with cute girls, that's perfect for boys. Card Captor Sakura aka Cardcaptors too.
Kids WB really butchered Cardcaptor Sakura in the states
Early 90s Disney toons mog both Nick and CN.
When spergs on the internet start listing a bunch of names of cartoons in a row I just check out mentally from whatever they're trying to say
Definitely preferred CN as a kid but now I have to admit Nick was better. As an adult the Nick cartoons still hold up and are genuinely entertaining but I can't say the same about a lot of the CN shows. Not that there aren't exceptions of course.
Coincidentally I made a 90s/2000s tier list and every single cartoon in the highest tier except one, an adult swim cartoon, is nick. they're also the only ones i rewatch, aside from "House of Mouse" and "Brandy and Mr. Whiskers" (both disney channel, strangely)
SSS TIER:
-invader zim
-ren and stimpy
-kappa mikey
-aqua teen hunger force
Invader Zim was cutting edge for its time but it's also peak unwatchable PENGUIN SPORK OF DOOM era comedy. I never watched Kappa Mikey. I've always thought ATHF was overrated as frick.
I know what you're thinking... who asked?
you need to get over the fanbase and be unbiased when you watch it
I never got the appeal of invader zim as a kid. it just seemed loud and 'random'. I wasnt a hater, I just thought the gimmick was pretty clear and not my thing.
imo Fox Kids needs to be mentioned in these lists. I have all the tiny toons adventures saved on my hd just because that show defined my humor.
ATHF is one of the all time
Aqua Teen Hunger Force is one of the animations of all time.
Ed, Edd n Eddy is better than all those besides Aqua Teen.
I hate ed, edd and eddy. It is the king of the hill of cartoons. Ironically annoying characters everywhere that only adults will like.
ed edd n eddy isn't the most entertaining when you're an adult
EEnE was the worst offender of the "everybody communicates solely by screaming" genre of cartoon
It was like the stupid robot from Treasure Planet but forever
best CN era is when they used to show boomer cartoons and had the very early cartoon cartoons
We didn't have cable but as far as free to air kids shows went, nickelodeon was dog shit, it was 90% cheap kid game shows/cringe kid actor shit.
how is ren and stimpy down to earth, or any of those others
They aren't. That's why I said for every zany cartoon Nick had, Cartoon Network seemed to have even more of that. To be fair, both networks had a lot of zany cartoons, but pretty much every cartoon on Cartoon Network was pure zaniness. Atleast Nick had shows like Avatar and As Told By Ginger that weren't just pure zaniness
Why does nobody understand what I was saying? I said for every zany cartoon Nick had, there were more zany cartoons CN had
I'll be the one to say it. Johnny Bravo/Cow and Chicken/Dexter's Lab/Ed Edd n Eddy were the last GOOD cartoons. If you liked Billy and Mandy, Fosters Home, Kids Next Door, and whatever came after you missed the actual good stuff or were too young to appreciate it. Kids Next Door was especially dog shit but I feel like the network took a hard nosedive after the "Cartoon Cartoons" and it's been unwatchable trash ever since. I was born in 1989 for reference.
but I liked all of those
those were basic and boring except for grim when compared to other shows of their era like flapjack, chowder, teen titans, the dreamworks shows, samurai jack, you were a basic b***h whose favorite show was probably danny phantom or jimmy fricking neutron
>shitting on jimmy neutron
not my favorite but I'll give you a frickin brain blast, b***h.
Johnny Bravo was hands down the best show they ever made.
When people praise Ed Edd n Eddy or Spongebob... they mean before they jumped the shark, right? Because the EEnE school and Spongebob post-movie episodes are the most autistic garbage shows I've ever seen, and I loved the shows before that.
Adventure Time was great 2/3s of the time. and if it wasn't great, it was the worst thing of all time. Also everything that was influenced by it was terrible because they didn't have Jesse Moynihan and Tom Herpich.
And you can't safely recommend AT to anybody because it takes like four seasons for it to get good.
I don't regret watching AT but damn is it hard to defend it.
>took 4 seasons to get good
there's a difference between hot takes and pure trolling, anon
season 1 was exciting as it aired because we didn't know what the show exactly was, and they were figuring it out as they went. I remember that feeling, but the quality was all over the place, and none of the episodes were especially great.
beginning in season 2, Rebecca Sugar became a storyboarder and brought the show down with her episodes. Jesse and Tom were great. Somvilay episodes were weird and dumb and kinda boring.
season 3 in particular was really spotty. Jesse was the only consistently good storyboarder. even Tom was making some duds.
Rebecca was only there for the first half of season five, and then they replaced her with the Cole/Andy team which was pretty good. Jesse and Tom were still great, and I felt like I was enjoying the Somvilay episodes more during that era.
I stuck with the show until sometime in season 7, and was generally enjoying it. Then it seemed to take forever between new episodes and I got out of the habit. I heard the series ended with PB and Marceline kissing. I never liked Marceline episodes.
My only hot take is that almost every live action and lolsorandomXD flash animated show adult swim greenlit between 07'-12' was pure dog shit that directly contributed to CN's downfall. There's obvious exceptions like ATHF, Boondocks, China, IL, metalocalype and Tim & Eric but that's it. And the worst part is all of those shows had years between seasons. I fricking hate Williams street for trying to force hipster film school trust fund baby shit down everyone's throats for half a decade, if not a full decade. And only after facing cancelation decided to bring back toonami. Fricking idiots.
>and thats it
b***h where the frick is superjail, steve brule and xavier, dont you put that liberal homosexual tim over them
>Superjail
07'-12'
>Xavier
nah lol
nta but xra > t&e
superjail ended a few years after '12 and started in '08 you tim-loving liberal
Whatever I got the timeline on superjail and Steve Brule fricked up. I thought they were post toonami reboot. I included athf just in case, no need to use slurs.
Nickelodeon cartoons were for maladjusted weirdos. They were ugly and offputting.
and they were amazing because of it. other cartoons were fricking boring and i hate the boring fricks who watch them.
>"I prefer the serious cartoons which focused on characters and plot and-"
you're the most boring person alive and nobody wants to hear you speak, shut up
That's not what I said and you're a moron if you think cartoon network originals were serious. Nickelodeon cartoons were awkward, uncomfortable, and had way more serious subjects and plotlines.
they were awkward and uncomfortable if you were a normie for the same reaosn Cinemaphile is uncomfortable if you're a normie. it's called being filtered, b***h, you're basic
This moron thinks the only cartoons on nick were spongebob and rocko lmao
Only the Lasky csupo ones.
