Wasnt the whole point of his introduction to be like the personal parental figure of Princess Peach who has been watching over since she was a literal baby
Peach's backstory in this film made no sense. She was a baby who wandered thru a magic portal and the Mushroom People worshipped her like she was the 2nd coming of Christ
>Peach's backstory in this film made no sense. She was a baby who wandered thru a magic portal and the Mushroom People worshipped her like she was the 2nd coming of Christ.
The epitome of Mary Sue.
It's just a setup for a Nintendo Cinematic Universe, of course it starts out small. What did you expect, a plot like Super Paper Mario's with a villain like Dimentio and everything?
Bland, uninteresting, and that is why it made a billion.
Audiences don't want smart, thought provoking. You are marketing to parents who want to shut the kid the frick up and not be force fed propaganda of any kind.
>This is the age of corporate productions.
The one we've been living in since we were shitting in diapers? You're not smarter for pointing that out, you know.
That's a "hot take"? Please, I'll give you a better one: >western cartoon/game writing is shitty on average. same goes for indie stuff too. it's how they often look/play good (respectively) which is why we like them anyways
The visuals and world building in this movie was cheap and washed-out. Galaxy, 8 Deluxe, and Odyssey look cleaner, vibrant, and colorful compared to it.
It's like Illumination's Mario world seems like a nightmare to live in and Brooklyn looks a lot better in comparison.
>The visuals and world building in this movie was cheap and washed-out. Galaxy, 8 Deluxe, and Odyssey look cleaner, vibrant, and colorful compared to it.
The movie is a feature-length advertisement for Super Nintendo World, and the visuals reflect that.
>It's like Illumination's Mario world seems like a nightmare to live in and Brooklyn looks a lot better in comparison.
You can say that about the Mario World in general (the Mushroom Kingdom is attacked/conquered every other week, sports and parties are literal deathmatches, bottomless pits, obstacle courses in the sky, man-eating plants, walking bombs, zombies, etc. etc.)
>You can say that about the Mario World in general (the Mushroom Kingdom is attacked/conquered every other week, sports and parties are literal deathmatches, bottomless pits, obstacle courses in the sky, man-eating plants, walking bombs, zombies, etc. etc.)
I'm not talking about what happens there. I'm talking about the world itself and it's culture. Odyssey and Sunshine did a good job of world-building while not trying to display Mario World like some sort of hell, but as an Izikai videogame world. The only place to really stay away from is Bowser Castle.
Illumination's Mario World also failed to realize that not all Goombas and Koopas work for Bowser. If they aren't in his army, they don't go around killing random people. They live as wild creatures or as civilians living with the Toads. The entire point of the Mario Bros living in that world is because Brooklyn was supposed to be boring and dull, not better than Mario World.
They weren't civilians. They're previous militants who failed or said something stupid to Bowser.
Bowser is a king who loves his subjects, not a tyrant to serve a depiction of hell.
the voice acting just ruins it for me. morons keep saying they sound "good enough" or that charlie day fits luigi to a T, but I'm never going to agree with any that.
Somehow I ended up finding the voice acting of Mario, Luigi and Bowser all right. But I still find Peach's voices so unfitting. Even the '80s - '90s cartoon did a much better job with the voice acting (except Toad of course, although his voice ended up annoying at the games too).
I honesty thought this movie, even though it doesn't really feature that sort of stuff would make people understand our side of the internet after watching it (if they ever stumble across like over 20 years of the phenomenon) with putting Video Game characters (like the Mario one) in situations you'd more likely see in mainstream movies, Classic and 90's edgy-type cartoons, pornography and TV Shows along with people who do over the top reviews of Video Games.
The movie would be perfect if it didn't had crap like Mary Sue Princess Peach. Still much better than any other American movie based on video game. I bet if it wasn't for the fact that Shigeru Miyamoto was co-producer, they would make it even worse.
Just watched it. Thought it was good. A videogame movie that just takes its video game logic at face value without lampshading or the need for a realistic explanation.
Pacing is a bit wonky. Scenes like them being in the eel or Peach and Mario meeting should definitely be longer, but that may cause the movie to drag on for longer than it's welcome for.
Best character is definitely Lumalee, for being so unhinged.
Saw it last week
The plot was meh but inoffensive
Aside from girl power there were no leftist, liberal, troony race bend cuckold agendas being pushed
This is like finding gold at this point.
Unlike Sonic and Pokemon its a Videogame movie within its video game universe and No real world crossovers or "what ifs"
? Detective Pikachu wasnt a real world crossover or what if. it just happened to be live action. it fits perfectly into the world and canon of Pokemon, and that's why it's great
This is the kind of movie I would make. Light on story, focuses more on showcasing a bunch of characters and puts in plenty of easter eggs. It may not be a perfect movie, you could even argue it wasn't a good one either. But it's a movie that's been catered for me specifically. And that's more important than what anyone else thinks.
TDLR: My opinion is correct. It's great.
Why was Toadsworth not in this movie?
Wasnt the whole point of his introduction to be like the personal parental figure of Princess Peach who has been watching over since she was a literal baby

The epitome of Mary Sue.
Miyamoto has something against toadsworth, it may just be because he didn’t create him
I've watched it yesterday for the first time
This movie is just the definition of 6 out of 10
I'd give it a 7.5/10 if they didn't use licensed songs
>if they didn't use licensed songs
don't care if they picked decent-good ones, and in this case they did__
>6 out of 10
Too much
Illumination is usually 5 out of 10
That's not really a hot take. Most people found it average. Others found it fun despite that.
It's just a setup for a Nintendo Cinematic Universe, of course it starts out small. What did you expect, a plot like Super Paper Mario's with a villain like Dimentio and everything?
The 2nd Mario Movie is gonna be a cross between Galaxy and Odyssey
Meanwhile the Zelda Movie is gonna be a 90 min advertisement of BotW or TotK
>It's just a setup
And this is an excuse why? No one is complaining about the scale.
Bland, uninteresting, and that is why it made a billion.
Audiences don't want smart, thought provoking. You are marketing to parents who want to shut the kid the frick up and not be force fed propaganda of any kind.

They did show some Goombas and Koopas in the cages with the other prisoners, I assumed they were dissenters or civilians or something.
They weren't civilians. They're previous militants who failed or said something stupid to Bowser.
Bowser is a king who loves his subjects, not a tyrant to serve a depiction of hell.
>black spiderman: origins
Wasn't anything special, just "anyone can be spiderman"
>just "anyone can be spiderman"
like Syndrome said, when everyone is super - no one is
Well that guy got sucked into a plane engine so what does he know?
stop fricking quoting syndrome, he is the literal villain of that movie lol
And? He's right by definition
That's not a hot take you moronic homosexual
the voice acting just ruins it for me. morons keep saying they sound "good enough" or that charlie day fits luigi to a T, but I'm never going to agree with any that.
I've seen it in Italian and, who could've guessed, the Italian voice cast was pretty good, still didn't manage to salvage the whole movie
Somehow I ended up finding the voice acting of Mario, Luigi and Bowser all right. But I still find Peach's voices so unfitting. Even the '80s - '90s cartoon did a much better job with the voice acting (except Toad of course, although his voice ended up annoying at the games too).
Seth rogan as donkey kong pissed me off the most.
Not just because it didn't fit for me.
But I just want Seth to be fricking gunned down or stripped from voice acting in general.
I also found him unfitting as Donkey Kong. Not to mention that Donkey Kong's personality was awful at the movie.
Megamind is nothing special, thats my hot take. Don't know why some people online shill that movie sobmuch.
This is peak performance.
You may not like it, but this is what it looks like.

I think it was despite that.
It's exactly what I wanted out of a Mario movie. If it tried to be "good" in that stereotypical Pixar/Disney way, I wouldn't have enjoyed it.
Flash is better than SpiderVerse
Miles will likely cheat all the rules of the universe in the final part
>Flash is better than SpiderVerse
How much is WB paying you?
>Flash is better than SpiderVerse
homie, are you high? And I don't even like Spiderverse or any other modern Marvel crap.
At least the Mario movie did ONE THING right: they finally made Toad's voice tolerable.
>they finally made Toad's voice tolerable.
No they didn't.
How? At all cartoon and video games they gave him squishy, irritating voice that drives you crazy. Now he has normal voice.
>How?
It's bland and unfitting for the character.
Nah
It didn't need to be good, Mario is recognizable enough to just shit out anything in the screen for profit
Bowser is CUTE
bump
OP is a homosexual
>This was a bland and uninteresting movie
Hey!
Stop being so nice to that piece of shit movie!

I watched it in Japan and it was fricking great. I refuse to watch it in English now.

There's nothing wrong with woke stuff in comics and cartoons.
I compare everything western made to Arcane and it really seems like pretty much everything is just bad.
It was OK. A 6/10.
Certainly not the masterwork, some people make it out to be.
hot takes are GAY
>bland and uninteresting
so just like modern Mario games
I'm planning on watching it for the first time. What's the best dub for the movie? French, Italian, Japanese, other?
