Squidward deserved it in the postmovie episodes.
Squidward rarely instigates conflicts past season 4. He just wants to be left alone and SpergBob won't let that happen

The Thing from season 4 is a worse version of this episode.
It's funny and Squidward deserved it for being a jerk, but SpongeBob and Patrick do show remorse at the end so it's not even remotely "Squidward torture porn". Just a funny episode where everyone gets hurt.

Because this specific scene was played off comedically, the actual Squidward torture porn scenes are either unfair for Squid or downright disturbing with no comedic value with it.
