This anime is awful to look at. Most of it is incredibly ugly and only a few of the scenes have the necessary level of detail to mask the constant CG workarounds.
yeah, like the names of the angels and the crosses, etc. but the plot of the show is about pseudo-gnostics trying to escape the world and unify everyone into the soup
NGE isn't pretentious at all. It might be bad, but it's completely self-aware about what it is and what it's trying to communicate to the audience (by which I mean teenage boys that like robots, not 40-year-old men reacting to a 30-year-old cartoon). It's not deep and doesn't pretend to be. That would be the gays that hype it up conflating spectacle with symbolism. It sets up some tropes for subversion (the Rei grope for example), but not many. The adults are interesting, and the kids are the audience insert (teen demographic, remember - super specials saving the world).
It's a fun show, revolutionary for the time. Inspirational to hundreds of animators.
Anno admitted he only included the Christian stuff cos he thought it looked cool.

This is an issue, why?
I like anime, but this is true. I wonder what Kurosawa, Ozu and the old masters would think about Japanese films now being dominated by animie.
They would respect what it was attempting to do, but dismiss the medium entirely.

All of this is just saying >Im a loser neet who needs anime to coddle me for my shitty relationship habits.
Cinemaphile watchers hate anime because it was made by the Japanese (who love white people) while Cinemaphile is stuck watching israelite garbage (who hate white people.)
They resent white anime fans enjoying content made by people that love them.
Cinemaphile gays spend half their watch time trying to rationalize why this content that hates them actually is not about how much israelites hate them.
its really sad to be honest.
I wouldn't call it pretentious, its just the exact opposite of a generic mech anime that people somehow think is deep.
Shinji is the opposite of the typical mech pilot hero who is handsome, brave, clever, and good with women. he's just a character with a lot of negative traits which I find unentertaining to watch.
Asuka, instead of the typical lovey dovey supportive female pilot fawning over the main hero, can't stand Shinji and rightly so.
almost every character has negative traits that make them the opposite of a generic mech anime character.
the show isn't deep its just different from what people were used to.
instead of demons or monsters attacking, well whats the opposite of that? angels.
its literally just a bizzaro world generic mech anime.
>guy who has only seen eva thinks that no mecha has ever had a non giga chad protagonist
Why is this so common?
Anyway, reducing Shinji's character down to just his flaws misses the point. The guy is brave, and from the beginning he wants to do the right thing. The guy gets in the robot literally every time until EoE. He doesn't even complain about it for like most of the show.
This show is impressive for being the biggest newbie midwit bait. 18 year olds come on Cinemaphile and watch this thinking they’ve seen the holy grail of kino cause they relate to the main character
it's literally not even complicated. Like it's not even Twin Peaks level of 2deep4u. Everything is in the plot; thematic narratives aren't even in the subtext. Quite literally all of the depth is explained in the dialog.
if you call something pretentious what you are saying is that the manner or method of its delivery has too high an opinion of itself and/or that it is impenetrable and not worth the effort to fully digest. Eva fits neither of those categories.
Reminder that Berserk 1997 and serial experiments lain are the only good animes
>blocks your path
It goes down hill after he dies

I disagree. I think it looks quite good. What would you consider a good looking anime?
FLCL (1999 OVA)
TTGL
OPM (S1)
MP100
I didn't ask for gun types homie, I asked for anime
MP100 is what happens when creators use the full advantages of the media
It has some of yhe most creative and fun action sequences
Anime ruined Japanese cinema.
I like anime, but this is true. I wonder what Kurosawa, Ozu and the old masters would think about Japanese films now being dominated by animie.

Texh is really good.
A film can't pretend, it doesn't have consciousness.
Those are bad.
You should actually watch more stuff instead of regurgitating what you read on an anonymous shitposting forum.
Explain why Berserk is bad
Can't use anything post golden age as a reason cos the anime doesn't cover it
Stay mad!
she's soooo crazy we can't take her anywhere
Filtered moron.
based and redpilled
a masterpiece that synthesizes gnosticism/occultism with psychology and the porcupine dilemma that every otaku struggles with
Anno admitted he only included the Christian stuff cos he thought it looked cool.

You aren't allowed to say things like that.
Whatever you do don't mention the three archetype Adlerian personalities formed in response to inadequacy.
That is the least interesting part of it.

Symbolism doesn’t make up for the show being shit
All of this is just saying
>Im a loser neet who needs anime to coddle me for my shitty relationship habits.
>what is artistic appreciation
more like autistic appreciation
They are close
>gnosticism/occultism
Not at all, in fact the story takes a buddhist framework with the message it imparts.
Make your own thread next time npc copyier idea man sir
>getting filtered by anno
Lmao
You posted a thread which means you think its important but its not important so that means ur pretentious
Why newbies suck off this overrated mediocre garbage so much?
>newbie
homie, you've never seen it
They are mostly zoomers, they are the impediment of "I'm 14 and this is deep!"

Replant replace fate with fart
>hated the first 3 Rebuilds
>4.0 is actually good and redeems everything
wtf
>filtered by an anime made for depressed teenagers

Except gundam already did the reluctant pilot trope. There isn’t anything realistic or subversive about shinji he is just a one dimensional annoyance.

Asuka is going to eagerly present her perfect body for me feast upon and make many good sex in and there's nothing you can do to stop her.

I related to Gendo and Asuka more than anyone else.

Based Anno, too bad he completely lost his edge and made that rebuild shit.

No one here said it was deep or complicated sperg

Yeah, those weirdos that care more about the symbolism than the actual message are dumb, what's new?
but you do admit that it's nonsense...
MISATO X SHINJI BESTO SHIPPUUUUUU
She should've fricked him.
