A lot of gorgeous animation and cinematography, even if the writing wasn't great.
I guess I'm most bothered by Anya, she didn't fit the role of Peach at all and can't act for shit.

A fair critique of this film. I'd personally also call out Seth Rogan as DK and Cranky's VA, both are really not fit for their roles (at least Seth said he doesn't play characters so I wasn't expecting him to do good). Music was excellent save for the random licensed songs. Wish story was more tightly written and allowed Luigi to do stuff with his brother. Ending sting with Yoshi did nothing because we've already seen Yoshi in universe. Probably the most solid 6/10 film carried by being a Mario love letter.
>at least Seth said he doesn't play characters so I wasn't expecting him to do good
Imagine being an actor and saying that.

There were only three (Holding Out For A Hero, Take Me On, Heat of the Moment) not sure why people have so much issues with them, and not sure what Mario music you would replace them with.
Anyhow, my personal issue was with the Wedding March, which felt really out of place, they could have used the Wedding music from Paper Mario: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-ov7a2XF7w
Also “No Sleep Til Brooklyn” early in the movie. Because, you know, they’re in Brooklyn. That’s when I checked out. It’s early 2000’s Dreamworks-tier shit.
I actually liked it. I know I am in the minority, but I liked the old songs from that time being put into the movie. Helped my nostalgia.
I’m sure you think Shark’s Tale is brilliant, too. Companies need tasteless npcs like you to stay afloat. Good on you.

You know with out using a hyperbole here, I came from another thread saying that people back in the early 2000s we incredibly narcissistic compared to now, and by your statement you proved those people wrong.
No I didn't like shark tale.
Since I am an adult who grew up with Mario and this music that came about around the same time, it made sense to me on how it fit.
Spouting NPC bullshit shows how much of a narcissist you are by just being threatened when someone says "I actually liked it."
What I'm saying is, you don't know how to properly criticize so you come off as an ass.
Peach was the best part of the movie WTF are you smoking
not OP but I liked Peach overall except for her VA's delivery of her lines. vocal fry doesn't really suit Peach imo, but tbf I felt lukewarm about most of the VAs.
Yeah. That’s just a problem of animated movies in the modern age. They cast based on name rather than voice acting skill.
It's been like this long before the modern age.
The only no names you would know nothing about would be a Disney princess or Disney prince.

Cranky's voice just felt out of place as the "Tired Old israelite Kong." Imagined him being more of the wheezing, crotchety old man who's bitter and sick of everything.
I mean he was one of the most heavily (and consistently) characterized classic Nintendo characters back in the 90s. You aren't imagining that, it's who he was. I mean it's his namesake.
I don't get the adverse reaction to cranky's voice, that's why I imagined him sounding like
Who is pic-related? Where is Toadsworth?
I honestly felt like Charlie Day was an amazing pick for Luigi and Jack Black did good too.
The rest felt uninspired and Fred Armisen’s Kranky made me wanna neck myself every time he talked.
I was happy with Chris Pratt. People shut the frick up about his performance after actually watching it.
People who shit on Chris Pratt have not seen Parks and Recreation, that guy has a lot of range
Hollywood has weird obsession with trying to turn Anya into a big star, I don't know.
She is very mediocre in both acting and looks, I don't get it. She doesn't have any acting range, she plays the same character in everything, it's always more or less stoic. And being stoic is like opposite of acting.
There are so many other prominent actresses who would have fit the role better. E.g. Elle Fanning has an insane range.
