I actually do feel kinda bad for her. Girl clearly is a fan, but the overwhelming majority of people working at Marvel seem to be coasting by on minimal effort at best, or actively hate the source material at worst
The problem though is that who the target audience is suppose to be really fricking matters and it's not simply just about 'writing' a good character, you actually have to present a characters that's visually and in premise attractive to said target audience to even get them interested enough to take a chance on the writing.
Like a nerdy 13 year old boy browsing his local comic shop in the 80s and deciding to pick up a she hulk comic didn't do so because the 'writing' got him to care about the character, he did it because on the cover she hulk looked fricking hot and he was horny. That's fricking it.
This is why a character like ms marvel will always fail. You can write her any which way you want, at the end of the day a lame teenage girl super hero with zero sex appeal is not psychologically interesting to male audiences who are the target demo for capeshit.
You have to take the general sensibilities of your target audience into account when selling a product, this simple approach is the key to Japan's success with manga & anime but the west simply doesn't understand this. You'll never get flops like Ms Marvel over.

People underestimate how much the chemistry that the original avengers cast had carried most of the MCU. Man, you could see them together in talk shows and they seemed to be long time friends. Now picture that with the new cast. Impossible.
