Thought anons were overhyping it first, but recently watched all of it and couldn't agree more. Easily the best cartoon series of the last ten years for me. The atmosphere was fricking intense. Wish there were more series like this.
A lot of the fighting scenes are even better.
I dont think many would argue that it was bad in a vaccuum, it just shouldnt have been made if it was going to throw the pacing off so badly.
Loved this but it should have been the first episode of s2 I think.
I'm afraid I don't like the premise too much. It's a bit melodramatic and well I don't like how Fang is basically a big dog with near-human emotions right off the bat. I tend to turn my nose at family wipeouts because it's such a cheap way of pulling on heartstrings. After Spears kills the 3 allosauruses or whatever they are, the t- rex puppers coming to him even though they're animals feels a bit cheap, like I was being knocked over the head with this. Even allowing for fiction, I was expecting more of a tense buildup, like the two fight at first but eventually they form some kind of bond through attrition with the external world alone. This felt a bit hammy and cheap. Great animation though.
I knew Spears exclusively from Snoot Game lol it's hilarious to see him here.
i'd see what you mean if spear's first plan wasn't to kill fang and the kids before the reds showed up. that was the tension there, if they started fighting then it'd be hard to find a reason why they would stop fighting to become friends and that's what the reds are, only the fighting doesn't happen
Yeah I get what you're saying but I it felt like they rushed it so they'd be a couple by the end of EP1. Especially since the whole thing has that typical Tartakovsky taste for long contemplative shots which make the pace slower. It happens a bit too fast and feels a bit forced. Still I didn't drop it, I just feel a bit meh about how it opens because I really had to force myself to go with the sappy feels I was beaten over the head with. Maybe my heart has just dried out. Fang is cute. Not as cute as the other Fang, but cute.
I like fang being smart and emotional, goes against the soulless reptile trope

I do like how they answer who would win in the 2nd episode. Fang had him at her mercy, if she was protecting her kids he’d have been dead. Red also kicked his ass.
I'm on a cigarette break while watching EP2 and it's bit weird how she "reverts" to reptile now. That's how I like her. I wanted a tension like this to be in EP1.
Also I have forgotten how damn good Scott Wills is. Fantastic artist. I don't know if he still makes the backgrounds himself by hand but they look gorgeous as always.
Yeah I liked EP2 a lot.
I'm gonna smoke a cigarette and watch EP3. I assume that something plot relevant's gonna go down in EP3. I bet the flood that happened was probably foreshadowing some even bigger cataclysm.
She really didn’t revert to reptile, she’s still intelligent and caring as seen by the ending when she saves him and brings his spearhead back. They just didn’t know how to share or get along just yet.

What I really meant is that the end of EP1 pushed her way too bit on that side.
Yeah I liked the ending. >brings his spearhead back
Fun fact: those things were like disposable razorblades. You cannot sharpen them like you'd do with a knife, so when they'd get blunt or chipped the cavemen would just chuck them and make another. It takes quite some skill to make a spearhead or axehead like that, but it's very quick and that kind of rock was fairly easy to find.
Genndy does way better episodic stuff (first season) than he does serialized stuff (second season). >wasting three episodes on a single location (the ship) and wasting one episode on something completely unrelated to the plot when you only have ten episodes to wrap everything up
My point is reinforced when you consider that episode 5 on its own was actually really good, and that the plot of Unicorn Warriors, which was serialized from the get go, is all over the place and doesn't make much sense.

Agreed, truly masterful. But it brings out the worst sort of detractor on this board.
There is a mild decline then the ending is both distressing and progressive but overall A tier.
Give me the QRD. I hated what they did to Samurai Jack.
Caveman and dinosaur become BFFs.
Is the animation always this good?
this is just an average episode. there are some really standout moments.

Don’t take the bait. It’s only this
for 8 episodes. After that it completely changes the premise to samurai Jack season 5 if he was a caveman

SG made me check out Primal, was worth it

I know its a hot take for some reason, but I love the Primal Theory; its a such a cool deviation.

It should have been the episode to play during April fools
Or Halloween.
It's only a deviation when whatched in season 2. if you compare it to a season 1 episode it fits damn near perfectly
What's this?
It's Primal
It went to shit with the season one finale. But go off.
>But go off.
Twitter refugees please leave
It was, it's a shame it didn't stick the landing, but there was enough good for me to look past that.
>Masterpiece
>Literally just a caveman doing unga bunga shit for 30 minutes
Genndy is a hack
>Literally just a caveman doing unga bunga shit for 30 minutes
you should've said this in a way that doesn't make it sound like kino
>implying that isn't great
