I like this show. didnt know how badly I needed to see two dinosaurs falling in love. I got the impression that redhead was a younger male but still had some oats to sow. of course as a love interest i suppose he was always doomed, but if she can at least get some eggs out of it.. aw frick but the eggs would be doomed wouldn't they
god it's amazing the complex plots you can do without any intelligible dialogue.. seeing both spear and fang trying to please their new friends while still preserving the old alliance.. and just so much failure mixed into that success.

For me, it was awkward (with the full moon soo cheesy) but essential for the final emotional jab at the end.
I'm kind of glad it's not going to get dragged out too much. Another season after this would probably still be good but they'd be scraping the bottom of the barrel and it would be harder and harder to keep things fresh without getting too stupid. Where would they even go with the story after fighting the horned god or whatever it is from the trailer? If this season ends well and everything works out well it'll be a great place to finish, and if it doesn't and some of the things people are worried about come true then it'll be better to let it end anyway.
I do hope he gets to make it into a kind of anthology or whatever you call it though, same tone and minimal dialogue heavy atmosphere and reliance on nonverbal cues and really meaty action, but with a different setting and characters, using the regular reboot every couple seasons to avoid jumping the shark. Maybe push the dialogue a bit in a Riddley Walker post apocalypse fictional dialect kind of thing or get a language nerd to do you up a whole conlang for people to puzzle through over the course of the season to figure out the secret lore shit.
What if the other settings don’t work as well for the format? I can’t see a WWII cartoon with zero dialogue being nearly as good as what we have gotten so far.
I’m sure Genndy could figure out something, but I doubt aliens or whatever can match what we’ve gotten from this setting.

Why would that be surprising? Fang is more or less an anomaly. Aside from her and the dog in episode 2 there’s virtually no reason for any other predator in the series to have any sort of amicable relationship with man.

That also should’ve been pretty obvious though once another Rex was introduced. Think about it: the only reason Spear wasn’t shuffled down fang’s gullet in his sleep a long time ago is because they have a prior relationship. Red had no such bond to keep him from trying to eat what would seem to him an easy snack the second he encountered spear.

The point of the beginning of the episode was to complicate the relationship between Spear and Fang a bit. So naturally, their relationship is put into question. But to answer your first question, yes. They've been through a lot at this point.

Jack and the Blind Archers is already pretty close to Primal thematically in terms of it being a very quiet, almost dialogue-less, contemplative episode. Would be hard to surpass, even in Primal settings.
I know, I love Primal. Just mean I think in terms of doing an arrow combat based episode in a contemplative, dialogue-less cartoon, it would be difficult to top Blind Archers.
Fang dying. I know, it sounds fricked up, but hear me out; Spear using Fang's fang as a spear, and it becoming a family heirloom for many unga years to come.

No it’s not flashbacks, Spear, Fang and Mira travel between human settlements and you see what each group of humans has been doing to survive. Spear was extremely lucky to be found by such a civilized group in ep 2, the first group of humans they encounter in this episode are cannibals

scene by scene, shot by shot. the theme of "survive" is demonstrated no better than in the night feeder. the way they build up the monster with the first night being a disturbance, the following day being disturbing, then the next night them just being stuck listening to the thing kill shit in the distance while they wait out the threat and the next day being them scared of every little thing that gets their attention. then their encounter with it was done absolutely perfectly with the shifting perspectives between spear and fang and the feeder until finally all they can do is run. but the best but is that they're not just running, they're trying to fight the thing at the same time cause they don't have a choice. then when they figure out how to deal with it it's the most satisfying thing in the whole series. the shot of them both looking at the flaming spearhead, the way the next day is skipped and we go straight to the next night, and best of all, the way we get the monster's perspective of being hunted. it doesn't get better than that tonal fricking whiplash. this episode was like a boss fight without a tutorial and i really want to see more like it. also, it easily has the best shots of the series.

Fang and Spear walking off into the sunset to have many more wacky hijinks, so many that if they were all recorded there would be no library big enough to contain them all. That or DINO SEX or both
People aren’t used to an animated project from the west that changes its status quo. Plus, people can’t cope with the reality if one of them dies that means the series is over
Spear and Fang realize they are caught between words, and both unwilling to leave the other become a legend, a creature of the wilds that wanders the world. The ending shows tribe after tribe all over the world with different depictions of the pair, rapidly cutting till they reach an old Spear, his hair turned grey. He grunts and cracks his back, hauling a catch of fish towards a cave, an equally elderly Fang sits by a fire, raises up her head to greet him, and then lays back down. The camera pans up into a setting sun, before a sudden distant cry sounds and we smash cut to PRIMAL. Then the credits role
As much as I would absolutely 2,000,000% love this as an ending, it's too heartwarming and easy-going for Primal
It would get the ball rolling for the anthology stuff well I think though. Moving on from S&F, whilst acknowledging they're still a part of the world
My ideal ending would be that Spear and Fang find a nice reasonably safe and plentiful area to settle down. Fang has Red's kids and shares the territory with Spear. Spear forms a new tribe from all the people hes helped along the way and starts a new family. He is able to return to the hunter/gatherer way of life he knows and enjoys while also using his knowledge gained through his travels to give boons to his fellow man. Spear and Fang have one last fight scene of them defending their territory which they do with ease. Last shot implies that the next generation of both sides will continue this mutually beneficial relationship.
I like how Cinemaphile is just determined to hate Mira no matter what happens, even though the reception to the season so far has been immensely positive. Even if the show ends with Mira parting ways with Spear and Fang and there's no romance and she doesn't do anything bad people will still call her a shit character.
I was opposed to her existence at first but after the last few I'm cool with it. As long as she doesn't outright replace Fang or Spear I am at peace with it. Still hate waifugays and shippers though.
If Spear or Fang actually die I might actually cry in real life. I'm not a tough guy or anything but media rarely (not never) makes me cry. I may well blubber like a b***h, anons.

I'm kind of glad it's not going to get dragged out too much. Another season after this would probably still be good but they'd be scraping the bottom of the barrel and it would be harder and harder to keep things fresh without getting too stupid. Where would they even go with the story after fighting the horned god or whatever it is from the trailer? If this season ends well and everything works out well it'll be a great place to finish, and if it doesn't and some of the things people are worried about come true then it'll be better to let it end anyway.
I do hope he gets to make it into a kind of anthology or whatever you call it though, same tone and minimal dialogue heavy atmosphere and reliance on nonverbal cues and really meaty action, but with a different setting and characters, using the regular reboot every couple seasons to avoid jumping the shark. Maybe push the dialogue a bit in a Riddley Walker post apocalypse fictional dialect kind of thing or get a language nerd to do you up a whole conlang for people to puzzle through over the course of the season to figure out the secret lore shit.
What if the other settings don’t work as well for the format? I can’t see a WWII cartoon with zero dialogue being nearly as good as what we have gotten so far.
I’m sure Genndy could figure out something, but I doubt aliens or whatever can match what we’ve gotten from this setting.

Why would that be surprising? Fang is more or less an anomaly. Aside from her and the dog in episode 2 there’s virtually no reason for any other predator in the series to have any sort of amicable relationship with man.

Oh I see. I love the aliens idea. I honestly think an early to mid 20th century warfare aesthetic thing could work but you're right when you say a whole season may be a bit too much. Unless the characters are really compelling. Maybe if he mixed in Nazi occult stuff it could work? Throw in some golden dawn shit? Horrifying experiments that actually worked out like a grafted super soldier or human centipede that works.
A WW2 show done by Genndy could be very kino if it focuses solely on WW2 carnage and battle with no romance. Would be extra based if its told from the perspective of a German or Soviet soldier instead of the typical American and Brit perspective.
I feel like that would work for a WW1 show better than a WW2 show.
I guess it's too early to ask if anyone has a translation of what Mira said? Not too hard to figure out but I want to know what she asks Spear after she hugs him. I know it just sounds like she's saying her name, is she just like going "oh you can talk!" then realizing that's all he knows how to say?

No it’s not flashbacks, Spear, Fang and Mira travel between human settlements and you see what each group of humans has been doing to survive. Spear was extremely lucky to be found by such a civilized group in ep 2, the first group of humans they encounter in this episode are cannibals

Yes actually. And anyway, there weren't many obnoxious tropes to hate in the first place until Genndy ruined his own creation with "save the girl garbage." Monster of the week with an eventual build up would have been just fine without Mcguffin Mira.
episode 9 is the best episode of the series so far what the frick are you on about
Why do you like it?
scene by scene, shot by shot. the theme of "survive" is demonstrated no better than in the night feeder. the way they build up the monster with the first night being a disturbance, the following day being disturbing, then the next night them just being stuck listening to the thing kill shit in the distance while they wait out the threat and the next day being them scared of every little thing that gets their attention. then their encounter with it was done absolutely perfectly with the shifting perspectives between spear and fang and the feeder until finally all they can do is run. but the best but is that they're not just running, they're trying to fight the thing at the same time cause they don't have a choice. then when they figure out how to deal with it it's the most satisfying thing in the whole series. the shot of them both looking at the flaming spearhead, the way the next day is skipped and we go straight to the next night, and best of all, the way we get the monster's perspective of being hunted. it doesn't get better than that tonal fricking whiplash. this episode was like a boss fight without a tutorial and i really want to see more like it. also, it easily has the best shots of the series.

What ending would you guys actually like? Because I’ve seen aversion to pretty much every option I can think of
Fang and Spear walking off into the sunset to have many more wacky hijinks, so many that if they were all recorded there would be no library big enough to contain them all. That or DINO SEX or both

People aren’t used to an animated project from the west that changes its status quo. Plus, people can’t cope with the reality if one of them dies that means the series is over
Spear and Fang realize they are caught between words, and both unwilling to leave the other become a legend, a creature of the wilds that wanders the world. The ending shows tribe after tribe all over the world with different depictions of the pair, rapidly cutting till they reach an old Spear, his hair turned grey. He grunts and cracks his back, hauling a catch of fish towards a cave, an equally elderly Fang sits by a fire, raises up her head to greet him, and then lays back down. The camera pans up into a setting sun, before a sudden distant cry sounds and we smash cut to PRIMAL. Then the credits role
As much as I would absolutely 2,000,000% love this as an ending, it's too heartwarming and easy-going for Primal
It would get the ball rolling for the anthology stuff well I think though. Moving on from S&F, whilst acknowledging they're still a part of the world
Like the other anon said, one where they essentially walk off into the sunset. It's a classic way to end a story for a reason.
My ideal ending would be that Spear and Fang find a nice reasonably safe and plentiful area to settle down. Fang has Red's kids and shares the territory with Spear. Spear forms a new tribe from all the people hes helped along the way and starts a new family. He is able to return to the hunter/gatherer way of life he knows and enjoys while also using his knowledge gained through his travels to give boons to his fellow man. Spear and Fang have one last fight scene of them defending their territory which they do with ease. Last shot implies that the next generation of both sides will continue this mutually beneficial relationship.
Butt we all know none of that will happen
Coven of the damned is still my least favorite episode. It took spear and fang out of the action and felt mostly like a recap episode

I like how Cinemaphile is just determined to hate Mira no matter what happens, even though the reception to the season so far has been immensely positive.
