Ya I don't get a lot of it's hate. We get a lot of satisfying monster scenes, a great soundtrack filled with the classic tracks, and I thought the movie being centered around a family was actually pretty kino and done reasonably well. People get mad that the mother was a crazy woman, as if crazy ideological people don't exist IRL. Solid movie, definitely overall better than GvK
>and I thought the movie being centered around a family was actually pretty kino and done reasonably well. People get mad that the mother was a crazy woman, as if crazy ideological people don't exist IRL.
FRICKING THANK YOU!
> Solid movie, definitely overall better than GvK
Yes. GVK improves on Kotm in a few areas (lighting & murkiness, I liked Hall & Skarsgard more than Chandler, less battle interruptions) but was vastly dumber and had vastly worse human villains and that is saying something.
The human villains in KOTM were plot devices who almost completely disappeared from the script after Ghidorah appeared. The whole eco-plot was entirely unnecessary. The movie would have worked with the mom as the sole villain since she could have gone to Antarctica and woken up Ghidorah on her own due to being a high-ranking Monarch scientist. The human plot in KOTM was very half-baked, and really only served as a way to bring the audience from set-piece to set-piece so the different monsters could appear one after the other.
there was one homosexual reviewer who literally cried that the film missed the opportunity to be a commentary on american fascism, because this film released while trump was in office and instead of being libtard goyslop it was kaijuslop and he got filtered by that.
What a brainrot moron. KoTM opted to make itself timeless by being about a family and eco terrorism. The only part that sucks is that G-force is made up of a bunch of Black folk, but really only the black ladies are a problem tbh
As someone who has seen every Godzilla movie, this is easily in the top 5. The human story isn’t mind-numbingly dull and there’s a good amount of monster scenes. Why this was hated is beyond me. Must’ve been from people who haven’t seen Godzilla movies before.
It's biggest flaw was the same as Bayformers: For whatever reason, someone working in the movie thought people would give a shit about the worthless, moronic human characters. So throughout it they keep cutting away from what you want to see to show you the moron who started this shit having a pity party, or her kid escaping through plot.
The monsters are GOOD, it's just that the movie won't stop cutting away from them. I will give the Monsterverse credit though: Every successive film has been a GENUINE improvement on the last, and that's a rare fricking thing these days.
>Goji 1 is more about philosophical navalgasing and Generic Soldier Man than Goji, writers were realismgays who thought murricans would flip from lacking suspension of disbelief if they didn't carefully explain how the big lizard works, also couldn't use real kaijus because legal reasons >"Oh, people like the part where the big lizard actually fought other big monsters huh" >Skull Island has way more big monsters but also saddles the plot with a bunch of quirky comedy characters with a forced survival plot >"Oh look people like the big monsters and don't give a shit about the humans! I'm surprised!" >KotM actually introduces the big name kaiju, but ALSO has a save the planet subplot and a faith subplot and giant military equipment because someone on the writing team STILL believes murricans' minds will break if they don't have a character they can relate to onscreen for more than 5 minutes >"Mothra is best waifu...Kevin...human Goji...okay fine, I guess nobody ACTUALLY cares about the human character. HOWEVER. These actors' salaries are fricking high and we need them to do SOMETHING in this film's runtime dammit" >GvK >human story is just why Mechagodzilla happens + how Mechagodzilla is stopped, brushed over super quickly >Most of the movie is wonky physics and big monster battles >Goji vs Kong gets a non-copout result, even though they do team up >It's the best one
absolute moron detected, complete opposite is true
G14- best american made godzilla easily, actual sense of scale, fantastic payoff, great atmosphere and vibe
Kong island- pretty based, fun adventure feel, good characters
KotM - shit all around
GvK- so shitty that it almost makes KotM look good.
I literally don't know how I should watch these movies. They are so fricking ridiculous, but at the same time take themselves so seriously. I don't know who's the targeted audience. Pacific Rim is imo a "monster" movie done well.
It's fun, without being ridiculous, and not too serious.
No idea wtf you’re talking about Pacific Rim has a much more grim tone than these movies. Plus, Godzilla is only good if it takes itself seriously or else it becomes moronic bullshit. I hate the old goofy Godzilla dancing and doing kung fu with the kiddies, those suck.
>shitty human characters, again >monster action you can hardly fricking see >moronic character motivations >nothing exciting happens until the final battle
Sorry but KOTM is one of the biggest disappointments of all-time if anything. Ultra-budget kaiju kino should be done by someone with talent. They were fricking stupid to not get Del Toro on board even if they fricked him over by hardly promoting Pacific Rim at all.
>the rick and morty scientist >ice cubes son >the animal psychologist
this movie is so fricking gay, jokes everywhere, that moronic fricking scene where the MC is staring down Godzilla in the underwater lab makes me so fricking mad. Not to mention theres something criminally wrong with almost every fricking story beat. Frick Legendary Godzilla
it was poorly disguised not-capeshit from an era of capeshit. i have fond memories of getting my ear drums blasted in the imax theatre, but in retrospective it was ok i guess
I just can't believe they made the SAME fricking mistake as Godzilla 2014 and keep all the monster action in the dark and rain
every monster interaction ended as soon as it started, the whole movie was just a huge tease, really ruined it for me
Godzilla and Kong did it right. Long non-schizophrenic 1000 camera-cut fights in the clear ass sunlight and no rain
t. didn't watch the movie
almost none of the fighting is in the dark, and g-14 paid tribute to the original film by having godzilla mostly off-screen and savoring the moments when he was on-screen and fricking shit up. get filtered harder Black person.
If you’re gonna make Godzilla hidden throughout most of the film then make the human characters interesting so that his appearances feel rewarding. They didn’t do that. Therefore there was absolutely no reason to conceal Godzilla so much when the movie isn’t offering anything as a good alternative to those scenes. It’s a deliberate insult to the audience to see Godzilla fighting on a small TV for a few seconds instead of showing the actual fight.
Father and daughter hybrid lone gunmen/tornado chaser godzilla hunters in G2000 was fun and that campy ass government guy who commits suicide by Godzilla was fricking great.
The original. Two best written humans are Yamane and Serizawa. The rest serves their purpose in the story but characters with an internal dilemma are more interesting.
if you combined the human plot in GxM with the kaiju fights in Tokyo SOS you'd have a really great Godzilla movie

Agreed
Why did they swap out the MCs from Against Mechagodzilla for Tokyo SOS?
Anonymous
Having watched Tokyo SOS in theaters recently, I realized that Mothra and Mechagodzilla are never actually on screen together. It's always just Godzilla fights one, then turns around and fights the other, then the same thing over and over. "Mechagodzilla and Mothra in the same movie for the first time" is one of the few things this movie has going for it and Toho never has them interact at any point. Fricking hacks.
the most kino parts of Destroy All Monsters were the human/alien parts and i’m tired of pretending otherwise. tbh it’s cool to see all the Big Boys on screen together but when they finally do have “the big battle” it’s just them beating up ghidorah with no stakes only for him to fly away for a sequel
The Godzilla parts kept him obscured and felt like the movie was trying to be "serious" but then the human parts were a generic blockbuster storyline without much going on that only existed as filler in between the monster scenes.
Felt like the movie didn't know what it wanted to be.
True, she cute. Also am I the only one who thought they were going to make her a psychic in it? It seemed like a missed opportunity to make the girl famous for playing a psychic character on another show into your series' version of Miki Saegusa.
Honestly the biggest flaw in it was its placement. This should have been the finale to Legendary's Godzilla movies, they made Ghidorah too much of an uber powerful world ending threat that it makes everything after just seem weak.
>legendary didnt have enough faith in their movie >now we're stuck with godzilla fighting random monkes for the foreseeable future instead of anything cool
they just needed to have a little GOD DAMN FAITH
Because they already sort of brought him back in GvK. Something about using one of Ghidorah's skulls to power Mechagodzilla or something like that. I don't remember the details but I just remember Ghidorah playing into it somehow.

they used ghidoras brain in mecha godzilla. And he was defeated with a cup of coffee spilling on the controls. absolute shit tier movie. Also the fat beaner kid making a mockery of "conspiracy theorists" was absolute fricking cringe. very shameful display

Yeah, they used one of Ghidorah's heads to power Mecha Godzilla. That's why Mecha went loco.

I just hope it's not the last film so they can get a better villain.
Yes I'm judging him right now. I'm sure he's unbeatable or whatever. Which will be another mistake by the way. Godzilla at full power should always be able to defeat an opponent 1 on 1. Potentially I mean even when it doesn't happen every time.
>I just hope it's not the last film
If it makes bank it won't be. Godzilla vs Kong was supposedly the last Legendary movie because the rights they purchased expired but lo and behold, Godzilla X Kong is coming out next year.
That's why i always watch these in the theater, i want more monster movies.
Pretty much, Toho gets the money for the rights, plus all the Japanese box office, and doesn't need to pay to produce them. They love having a hollywood Godzilla series.
>They had to nerf Godzilla for Godzilla vs Kong
Godzilla beat the shit out of Kong so effortlessly that I was almost disappointed and I was on Team Godzilla. They didn't nerf shit.
Mechagodzilla after Ghidorah looked like a complete joke. Maybe I just don't get it since I've only seen these movies, but since it's a robot it would get progressively more banged up. If Ghidorah had won, he could just sleep off the damage and be back to 100%, while Mechazilla would be a limping frick forever
It's nice that they listened to criticisms of the first one and actually showed us monsters fighting, but they ignored the criticisms of the human drama and doubled down on it. Pretty much the same deal with GvK. These movies just can't tell a decent human story outside of Cranston's small arc.
The marketing for this film was amazing, especially the trailer. Loved the designs of the kaiju and the soundtrack, but besides that the human characters and the plot really dragged the whole thing down, doesn’t help that they kept cutting away from the action.
I liked it, but GvK was better in every way. KOTM had way too much happening with too many named characters. The plot about the mom waking up King Ghidorah to destroy the world because of le climate change or whatever also made no sense when he already had a perfect motivation for doing it. Godzilla inadvertently killed her son, so she should have partnered with the eco-terrorist fanatics to wake up Ghidorah as a way to seek revenge. The Charles Dance character should have delivered the villain monologue, since he otherwise did basically nothing. It's obvious that the script needed a lot of work and should have been trimmed down substantially to keep it focused. Compare that to GvK, which was cut down to be quite a bit shorter. In fact, the biggest problem with GvK is that Dr. Serizawa's son was there with no explanation of why he was a villain or who he even was, because Shun Oguri's English was too bad to understand, which resulted in a lot of his lines getting cut from the final product.
>ghidorah appears >it cuts to showing a cross in front of them in a very subtle manner, and the color palette is all red >ghidorah is... le devil or whatever? >this is deep
>otherwise full of marvel quips and weightless scaleless kaiju action which is a huge downgrade from Godzilla 2014
>scene takes place in country that is 80% Catholic >use a cross in one shot because it looks cool and uses the setting >people are still seething about this years later
I skipped seeing it in the theater because I thought the 2014 one wasn't very good, and I really ended up regretting that decision. KotM was great and I can only imagine how cool it would have been in IMAX or something.
I blew it.
PROS > Up until his fight with Ghidorah this is the most powerful / menacing / badass Rodan has been since 1956 & his design is very good. > Godzilla still looks fantastic (2nd best G design ever IMO) as he did in 2014 which is even improved upon here with the more classic spines after his power up. > Opening with the Mothra larva is fun. > Mothra's adult form is great (but overly small) > Ghidorah looks basically perfect. > Vastly more monster screen time & fight scenes than 2014. > Vastly better lighting than 2014. > Some fantastic moments showing off a sense of scale (the moment of Ghidorah rearing back to blast MBB in the stadium a final time was breath taking in theaters) > Good overall cast. > Good score.
MIXED ELEMENTS > Tone is largely about right, more serious than not. A few cringy jokes but not even close to as many as haters claim. The Gonorrhea line is the worst & nothing else comes close. > Giving Serizawa the Bryan Cranston treatment, that said his sacrifice is beautifully done. > Kyle Chandler is very generic but fine here and is IMO better than Aaron Taylor Johnson in 2014. > Charles Dance was a great villain choice but is notably underused (still better used than the villains in GVK) > Ken Watanabe, Vera Farmiga & MBB put in good performances but needed to have been given more to do. The focus should have been on them & not Kyle Chandler.
CONS / NITPICKS > Did not like Sally Hawkins being abruptly killed off & especially not in this manner where we could not even see who had been killed until we saw Serizawa mourning in the next scene. > Too much rain, haze & murkiness (not nearly as bad as haters claim) > The Ghidorah vs Rodan fight was too one sided & was barely shown and what we did get was the worst victim of the murky rain in the film. Should have had Rodan using his superior maneuverability / speed to hold Ghidorah off for a bit. > They seemed to have shortened Godzilla's tail from 2014. > Emma's motives / goals are moderately under explained. > Sam Coleman is a completely pointless awkward character.

PROS > Score is good. > Opening credits are cool & well done (score for it isn't quite as epic as the similar 98 credits) > CGI is all largely very good. > Godzilla's design is among the best ever & his mannerisms/expressions give the impression of grizzled, tired world weariness. > Godzilla's 2 atomic breath moments are great & the 1st shot of his tail lighting up is majestic. > The Muto designs are in the same vein of that from Cloverfield but are very much their own unique creature. > The Mutos's interaction is very natural & animal like contrasting their very unnatural appearance. Similar in many ways to the 1998 version of Godzilla. > Really like the mystery/build up to the Muto reveal + airport scene. > Scene of the 1st Muto hatching is suspenseful and very well done. > Bryan Cranston gives a solid emotional performance. > Some of ATJ's interaction with Cranston is decent. > Casting of the film is solid all around. > Opening with the nuclear disaster is overly quick but well done and emotionally effective. > The halo jump sequence is very well done. > The film & handling of the monsters feels grounded/quasi-realistic but at the same time the scale/cinematography is epic.
Nitpicks, CONS & Missed Opportunities! > The score is overbearing during the scene where the Mutos are ganging up on Godzilla and stabbing him. > Film is way too darkly lit especially the conclusion of the final battle. > Not enough scenes of the military fighting the Mutos. > Cutting away from the monster fights got old fast. Doing it after the incredible build up to the airport scene was bad enough but they do it several more times. > The final fight gets interrupted too much. I do like them showing the soldiers with the battles raging all around them but after they land from the jump & set out to find the nuke they should have focused on the monsters for a while before coming back to the soldiers. > Great cast but almost everyone aside from Cranston is underdeveloped & underused. > Ford is the least interesting character in the film, is overly focused on & ATJ gives a weak overly stoic performance. > Killing off Bryan Cranston was a mistake. Him living & interacting with Serizawa the rest of the film would have benefited both of their characters & would have allowed for more exploration of Monarch & it's history. It also would have been a good excuse for Ford to stick around rather than the series of conveniences that result in him being directly involved for the rest of the film.
Godzilla Vs. Kong was pure slop but I think that’s why I liked it. It felt like a stupid ass Showa era movie with a $200 million budget. Absolutely ridiculous plot, corny science fiction elements, human characters are worthless, but it has true kaiju kino and has fun with it. Definitely would’ve been better if it felt like a real movie though but that’s asking too much from Hollywood these days
>It felt like a stupid ass Showa era movie
I think this is what they were going for, but they used the wrong kind of stupid. Proper "kaiju movie stupid/crazy" is stuff like Godzilla doing jump kicks and flying and shaking hands with allies and shit like that. I hated what they did with Kong and his species, where they had a temple and a throne room and used a nuclear power core to energize their Godzilla-slaying weapons. This turned Kong and the other apes from kaiju to a fantasy race out of Lord of the Rings or some shit. I get that Kong would be an intelligent kaiju, but he's still just a kaiju. He shouldn't be THAT smart.
I love big dumb Kaiju films, but only when they're big dumb Kaiju films. Shit like this was way too anime for me to take the serious tone at face value.
>it doesn't feel anime at all in the context of the movie
It's literally a shonen reveal where the villain just does some absurd display of power out of no where to write-out problems. He goes from breathing a beam for a few seconds to shitting out ten-dozen purple lasers and having some laughable bio-radar to explain it.
To put it simply: It's a low-brow event to lazily write out solutions and up the ante in a way that makes no sense and wasn't previously established, but it looks cool so midwits love it.
My only gripe with the movie is the eco terrorists stuff, Ghidorah should've come from space or released by accident
But perfect Showa/Heisei mix in the tone for my tastes
What I meant is that they completely cut that subplot with eco terrorists.
And I hope that the true Kaiju Chad will appear at some point in the monsterverse

How do you even do this? Like how do you separate the existing dialogue from the rest of the audio?
This was done by the official dub team and included on the original disc for fun and lolz. Its done the same way the professional dib is done...which is to say I have no idea how that's done but that's how they did it

There was a rumor that he won't have it. I somehow avoided all the spoilers despite not even caring whether I see them or not and my non-fan friend really liked it. It was one of the most necessary in this franchise history.
He gets too much hate. His mother died at a young age, his father went nuts, and then he became a grunt; this is all to say it fits within his character to be less than hyper-expressive.
>its not his fault!
then write a better fricking character, i dont care where the buck has to stop but the character sucks and he does nothing to elevate it.
Same happened in my theater. It’s crazy how much better this movie would be and how improved its reputation would’ve been had they just included an initial fight scene with Godzilla and MUTO at the airport
any movie that has real jumps in it is automatically kino
Based on the anon the other day if he was who he said he was,
She's not even in the new one..
Missed opportunity
she shouldn't have been in the monsterverse to begin with, they cast her as a meme actor and to attract stranger things fans. shit character through and through.
This is honestly one of the most memorable scenes featuring modern military tech. I'm glad it used the same music as in the teaser. I thought they wouldn't because it's from A Space Odyssey.
>rodan dropping giant magma meteors >better tuck down an alleyway 3 feet away to not get hit by molten lava falling from overhead
stupidest fricking movie
If you're a Godzilla purist you're going to hate the Legendary movies. But for what it's worth, King of the Monsters at least delivers on kaiju fights, unlike 2014.
Is there even such a thing? If it's about the cgi then that excuse is over. And if it's about not being from Japan then I can only say that this is what Toho wanted since the 90s. They wanted the brand to be international. And they've done it. It's a stunning success for Godzilla as an icon.
After MV they finally did something with their investments in the US that they'd made in the early 50s and which laid dormant all this time. And of course there are other initiatives including their online store which also has an international branch. Toho makes 2 wrong steps but for every 3 good if that makes sense. After all they're still just a Japanese entertainment company.

I just never want to see the franchise lose its connection to the Japanese soul. There should always be Godzilla productions that are 100% Japanese. You cannot divorce an artform from it's cultural roots and expect it to remain true. Western media is so shit these days I just want one thing to remain pure and unsullied. It's a pipedream but it's my pipedream.
Good for you my man, a lot of you come into this threads and do nothing but b***h and moan about the Legendary movies not being good because they're not more like the Showa or Heisei or whatever.
>they're not more like the Showa or Heisei or whatever.
Honestly KotM and GvK feel a lot like a modern, high budget take on some of the Showa movies to me. GvK especially with the plot of the wacky cast of misfits blundering their way into and then foiling the villains evil plot gave me hardcore Godzilla vs. Gigan vibes.
I wouldnt say im a purist but the general Marvelization of Godzilla in the Legendary movies is gay as hell, and it seems like nobody wants to give Godzilla any scale. He and Rodan may frick up Brazil or whatever but the way its shot and presented they may as well be trashing a small neighborhood. Shin has its problems with CGI helicopters and beating you over the head with the BUREAUCRACY BAD message a few more times than is necessary but through audio and video it communicates that "OH FUUUUUUUUCK" of Godzilla destroying a city
I didn't hate 2014 tbh it was just a lower tier Godzilla movie, if King of the Monsters is more "traditional" then I'll probably have a good time with it.
>Go for it man. It's good shit.
Definitely will, at least so I can see Mothra and Ghidorah. >Of course you're probably going to hate the human element of it though because that's always the weak point of these movies.
Wingard is working with Dan Stevens again for the new movie and The Guest is megakino so there may be hope.
>Wingard is working with Dan Stevens again for the new movie and The Guest is megakino so there may be hope.
frick yeah i didn't know Stevens was in it.
That b***h giving her speech about unleashing the monsters on humanity was the closest I had ever gotten to walking out of a theater, only stopping because I was with friends.
>teenage girl needs to remind you that the whole point of keeping earth healthy is so people can live on it, killing all the people in service of the health of the earth means people wont live on earth, not to mention the grief of a desd son provoking this behavior likely has and will kill many more children in the process >lady with like 10 doctorates in monster mind science somehow missed this minor detail and "OH YEAH OOPS"es to her death
I have no idea how this shit was signed off on.
So from what I gather the main reason people didn’t like King of the Monsters is because the plot was just mind-blowingly awful and it took itself seriously? Even the kaiju action couldn’t redeem it?
It's basically just the kaiju bits with some scenes having a bit of human shit for context. I wouldn't recommend it to someone for a first time watch of the legendary movies but if you've already seen them it's pretty cool to just sit back and watch the fights.
So this time the baseless speculation of the day is....
that either of our heroes will die. I can already tell while it's not gonna happen killing off Kong is more unlikely because Kong gets all of the attention, while Godzilla gets scraps.
I don't know these guys but for all it's worth all of these movies so far are in the "yeah I don't mind them, they're fine" category. Sleeper winner of the cinematic universe wars.
It helps that it was clearly made by people who actually liked Godzilla movies. The fact that so many of these franchise adaptations now are given over to some hack who either never heard of or outright hates the source material is just bizarre to me, especially because it just keeps happening.
>Sleeper winner of the cinematic universe wars.
It helps that they put a decent amount of time between movies and haven't really tried to increase the output. Unless that fabled Apple TV+ series counts, I guess.
It's just not as exploited as the three most popular movie brands. Thank God for that. I'm so glad Godzilla is super popular just not to that extent and may it never be. No, just one movie every few years a show, some comic is someone cares. Everything is so easy to follow. Speaking of course just about this series in particular.
It's what makes me worried about the rest. If Wingard hires someone like that again, someone who made no secret how he feels about Godzilla movies and who predictably released a very forgettable temp music score, what about other things that were wrong about GVK? I will end up regretting Godzilla is even in the movie. Kong is his boy apparently so he can stay for all I care.
why don't they make a movie about godzilla fighting and destroying shit? instead they put some shitty human plot that takes 90% of the time. No b***h, i'm here to watch big monsters fight not your fricking shitty ass plot.
the least they can do is flip the screentime and give the monsters 90% instead.
i really do not understand how anyone can sit through GVK and have something good to say about it. i'm a huge Godzilla fan but good lord i have my limits
I love the savage beatdown Godzilla gives Kong on the ocean and then in Tokyo, where he yells in his face and Kong just yields. The color palette in that scene is cool as frick too.
Godzilla will probably visit Tokyo in the upcooming show. I just hope they give him a good reason to do so. Between 2014 and KotM he's still supposed to be more hands off.
Big monke fight big dino
big monke and big dino fight robot dino

They don't lie about what they sell and it's fun.
More based that most companies to day that use beloved IP to promote their mental illness propaganda with trans' and homos
Pisses me off for the same reason I criticize the Legendary movies. The fights are poorly shot. To busy and not enough wide angle shots. You can barely tell what the frick is even going on.
I feel the same. Thanks to Wingard I have a Kong fatigue I want my scaly boy and his entourage. I'm more interested in their world, their interactions.

>his entourage
The issue is they cost money to use but Kong and OCs don't.
If this next movie does as well as GvK did then maybe they'll shill out the money for more licenses from Toho.
It's absolute shit and its biggest sin is that the monster battles suck ass outside of the very last ones and even those keep cutting away to humans every few seconds
You call these fights? They're pathetic, no sense of location, no sense of scale, no actual interesting twists and turns or tension it's just CGI blobs overlapping each other
?t=129
And then when the one actually good monster battle in the whole movie starts, the director cucks us out of it every 20 seconds by switching to the shitty human cast. At least 2014 had the decency to completely cut away to a different scene instead of starting the fight and then covering the audience's eyes
?t=205
The story is so botched and moronic it literally portrays nukes as a GOOD thing and nerfs the Oxygen Destroyer to a two second cameo that comes out of nowhere. It's only due to nukes that Godzilla is revived from the OD and the radiation from the titans HEALS the Earth???
It doesn't even have the saving grace of a good atmosphere like most of 2014 did. The only really good things about KOTM are the soundtrack and the actual monster designs but they belong in a better movie than this one
The CGI was pretty bad in KotM. If they were skimping on CGI quality for the amount of CGI that we got, they probably just couldn't afford any more screentime for the monsters. Cutting back and forth between the humans and the monster fights frequently is a cost saving technique to stretch the budget. That leaves the question of where the hell the money went if it wasn't available for CGI. Maybe this movie was one of those Hollywood money laundering schemes.
2014 still holds up, and gvk looks fine, same with skull island. Don't know why this one shit the bed so hard, maybe they spent their budget on marketing and the soundtrack.
I liked it as well. It's not a perfect film but it felt like the ultimate western love letter to Godzilla.
Also I love Mothra as well OP, shame that she is super under appreciated as of late. It sucks even more that the monsterverse has forgotten about her and Rodan. And we know that she laid an egg in China or at least it was a planned after credits scene.
I know a lot of people think they are using Toho monsters as much now because of money but while that's likely true in part but now that they are gearing up to make a monsterverse of their own, it's possible they don't want them using the other monsters since they plan to use them in their own films. IE Mothra, Rodan, anguirus, etc. solo films...
The thumbnail looked like no single shot I remember from the movie. Anyway good to have a waifu who understands you because you two are like the only creatures with millions of years of experience sharing the responsibility of the entire world on your shoulders. Someone to talk to. Best friends.
>every fight shaky, obscured by a storm and at night time >cuts away from the monster action every 5 seconds and focuses on the human story for 5 minutes before going back to 20 seconds of monsters
Frick this piece of shit. This was shit compared
That's them as friendos? Looks like it though it's going to be very awkward and slow. I'd prefer Godzilla interact with his own monster buddies. They kind of force it between him and Kong.
Kong's franchise is the same one story every time. Godzilla has an entire universe. I think we will see more monsters this time. I want to see at least a few nice interactions between them or some moments if there's a great battle at the end. Wingard needs to prove me wrong after GVK. Right now I think he's got only Kong on his mind.
The trailer made it look so good but it flopped and was quickly forgotten. Even the King Kong movie is pretty popular on streaming these days. Godzillabros we can't win
I play Unleashed on emulator. It works, I enjoy the roster and that it has a story mode and four factions. Of course the mechanic is easily exploitable and therefore kinda broken. But it has the best beam clash system I've ever seen.
Strange and I don't think I can change them. There are assigned keys of course but nunchak moves are done by clicking. It takes some time. I use the dolphin emulator.

I'll have to try it myself and see how it controls, sounds weird but maybe I could get a hang of it.
Would be cool if I could map it to another controller.

Yes it must be easier. I couldn't even bother to get a controller but it's always easier.
I honestly didn’t like 2014 when it came out, but i immediately loved all the others and the sequels retroactively made 2014 kino. No pozz since they’re made by Toho, they’re great movies.
I actually liked the rain. The whole concept of Ghidorah creating a personal super hurricane around him just from flying was cool and its the most credible he's ever been as a "World Destroyer" outside Polygon's lovecraftian pool noodles.
The real problem was how they kept hiding the Mothra imago until the final battle. They had an opportunity for a grand reveal when she parted the storm to guide the sub to Godzilla, but she never turned down her backlighting to let us see her.
I was actually surprised that people didn't like KOTM.
I didn't think the fight scenes were dark at all. Maybe because I watched it at the cinema?
The soundtrack and monster cinematography was kino too. Made it feel like these really were ancient gods.
The family drama was kinda lame but Vera and Kyle are good actors so it was fine
i was the anon who started doing the >X DAYS UNTIL GODZILLA RETURNS with the gojira pepe threads and stopped because the only attention that they got was gays saying legendary/‘98 godzilla are better than japzilla or that homosexual MBB spamposter. i still see some of the other anons post them tho and i try to leave a bump, it makes me sad that they were so easily hijacked
Even if you don't care for the overall production some action bits will probably be some of the best stuff you'll see for a while, in a big-budget CGI sense.
I still wondering why the frick did Legendary released it too close not only of DPikachu cannibalizing their own sales of both movies but to Avengers of all things? Well at least they were able to release GvK with no problems.
Probably the worst instance of cutting away from the monsters in GKOTM was when the final fight was literally JUST starting and Godzilla and Ghidorah charge at each other and start fighting and then the fricking MONARCH ship comes down and fills the screen and blocks the view.
Apologize
> oh you want to see a monsters fighting movie with godzilla?
>here is a black screen, enjoy
I preferred Kyle Chandler because I've always had a soft spot for that actor ever since Friday Night Lights
>Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose
kino
The human villains in KOTM were plot devices who almost completely disappeared from the script after Ghidorah appeared. The whole eco-plot was entirely unnecessary. The movie would have worked with the mom as the sole villain since she could have gone to Antarctica and woken up Ghidorah on her own due to being a high-ranking Monarch scientist. The human plot in KOTM was very half-baked, and really only served as a way to bring the audience from set-piece to set-piece so the different monsters could appear one after the other.
will never watch this trash flick, but the soundtrack is absolutely god tier
there was one homosexual reviewer who literally cried that the film missed the opportunity to be a commentary on american fascism, because this film released while trump was in office and instead of being libtard goyslop it was kaijuslop and he got filtered by that.
What a brainrot moron. KoTM opted to make itself timeless by being about a family and eco terrorism. The only part that sucks is that G-force is made up of a bunch of Black folk, but really only the black ladies are a problem tbh
GANG KOTM RISE UP!
As someone who has seen every Godzilla movie, this is easily in the top 5. The human story isn’t mind-numbingly dull and there’s a good amount of monster scenes. Why this was hated is beyond me. Must’ve been from people who haven’t seen Godzilla movies before.
I didn't know there was hate, I love this and GvK
It's biggest flaw was the same as Bayformers: For whatever reason, someone working in the movie thought people would give a shit about the worthless, moronic human characters. So throughout it they keep cutting away from what you want to see to show you the moron who started this shit having a pity party, or her kid escaping through plot.
The monsters are GOOD, it's just that the movie won't stop cutting away from them. I will give the Monsterverse credit though: Every successive film has been a GENUINE improvement on the last, and that's a rare fricking thing these days.
>Goji 1 is more about philosophical navalgasing and Generic Soldier Man than Goji, writers were realismgays who thought murricans would flip from lacking suspension of disbelief if they didn't carefully explain how the big lizard works, also couldn't use real kaijus because legal reasons
>"Oh, people like the part where the big lizard actually fought other big monsters huh"
>Skull Island has way more big monsters but also saddles the plot with a bunch of quirky comedy characters with a forced survival plot
>"Oh look people like the big monsters and don't give a shit about the humans! I'm surprised!"
>KotM actually introduces the big name kaiju, but ALSO has a save the planet subplot and a faith subplot and giant military equipment because someone on the writing team STILL believes murricans' minds will break if they don't have a character they can relate to onscreen for more than 5 minutes
>"Mothra is best waifu...Kevin...human Goji...okay fine, I guess nobody ACTUALLY cares about the human character. HOWEVER. These actors' salaries are fricking high and we need them to do SOMETHING in this film's runtime dammit"
>GvK
>human story is just why Mechagodzilla happens + how Mechagodzilla is stopped, brushed over super quickly
>Most of the movie is wonky physics and big monster battles
>Goji vs Kong gets a non-copout result, even though they do team up
>It's the best one
absolute moron detected, complete opposite is true
G14- best american made godzilla easily, actual sense of scale, fantastic payoff, great atmosphere and vibe
Kong island- pretty based, fun adventure feel, good characters
KotM - shit all around
GvK- so shitty that it almost makes KotM look good.
Never post here again, pseud.
The thing is the human characters move the plot along.
The human story is dogshit in GvK
I literally don't know how I should watch these movies. They are so fricking ridiculous, but at the same time take themselves so seriously. I don't know who's the targeted audience. Pacific Rim is imo a "monster" movie done well.
It's fun, without being ridiculous, and not too serious.
No idea wtf you’re talking about Pacific Rim has a much more grim tone than these movies. Plus, Godzilla is only good if it takes itself seriously or else it becomes moronic bullshit. I hate the old goofy Godzilla dancing and doing kung fu with the kiddies, those suck.
>shitty human characters, again
>monster action you can hardly fricking see
>moronic character motivations
>nothing exciting happens until the final battle
Sorry but KOTM is one of the biggest disappointments of all-time if anything. Ultra-budget kaiju kino should be done by someone with talent. They were fricking stupid to not get Del Toro on board even if they fricked him over by hardly promoting Pacific Rim at all.
The only monsterverse movie that didn't suck was 2014 Godzilla
>the rick and morty scientist
>ice cubes son
>the animal psychologist
this movie is so fricking gay, jokes everywhere, that moronic fricking scene where the MC is staring down Godzilla in the underwater lab makes me so fricking mad. Not to mention theres something criminally wrong with almost every fricking story beat. Frick Legendary Godzilla
The sound mixing was really good in this. Especially the sounds Chidora made at reveal at the artic base.
nvm it wasn't the antartic roar, it was the alpha call
it was poorly disguised not-capeshit from an era of capeshit. i have fond memories of getting my ear drums blasted in the imax theatre, but in retrospective it was ok i guess
Easily the worst Monsterverse movie, wtf are you on?
I just can't believe they made the SAME fricking mistake as Godzilla 2014 and keep all the monster action in the dark and rain
every monster interaction ended as soon as it started, the whole movie was just a huge tease, really ruined it for me
Godzilla and Kong did it right. Long non-schizophrenic 1000 camera-cut fights in the clear ass sunlight and no rain
Just enjoy the monkey punching the lizard in the face bro
Kotm was not half as dark as 2014.
t. didn't watch the movie
almost none of the fighting is in the dark, and g-14 paid tribute to the original film by having godzilla mostly off-screen and savoring the moments when he was on-screen and fricking shit up. get filtered harder Black person.
nta but the ghidorah fight in the end is dsrk as frick and all the other fights are just cgi rock em sock em robots.
It’s a deliberate insult to the audience to see Godzilla fighting on a small TV for a few seconds instead of showing the actual fight.
find me a godzilla film with well-written humans
you can't
They never have good humans but they at least have cool monsters. Godzilla 2014 actively avoided being cool.
Invasion of Astro-Monster
wrong
Akira Takarada's character in Ebirah, Horror of the Deep is more interesting than anyone in the Monsterverse.
Father and daughter hybrid lone gunmen/tornado chaser godzilla hunters in G2000 was fun and that campy ass government guy who commits suicide by Godzilla was fricking great.
Godzilla (1954)
The original. Two best written humans are Yamane and Serizawa. The rest serves their purpose in the story but characters with an internal dilemma are more interesting.
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla actually had a decent human storyline
if you combined the human plot in GxM with the kaiju fights in Tokyo SOS you'd have a really great Godzilla movie
Agreed
Why did they swap out the MCs from Against Mechagodzilla for Tokyo SOS?
Having watched Tokyo SOS in theaters recently, I realized that Mothra and Mechagodzilla are never actually on screen together. It's always just Godzilla fights one, then turns around and fights the other, then the same thing over and over. "Mechagodzilla and Mothra in the same movie for the first time" is one of the few things this movie has going for it and Toho never has them interact at any point. Fricking hacks.
Shin Godzilla
the most kino parts of Destroy All Monsters were the human/alien parts and i’m tired of pretending otherwise. tbh it’s cool to see all the Big Boys on screen together but when they finally do have “the big battle” it’s just them beating up ghidorah with no stakes only for him to fly away for a sequel
Ghidorah dies in DAM
Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla
Godzilla vs Biollante
Terror of Mechagodzilla, Godzilla Raids Again, Mothra vs. Godzilla are a few that come to mind that haven't been mentioned already.
The Godzilla parts kept him obscured and felt like the movie was trying to be "serious" but then the human parts were a generic blockbuster storyline without much going on that only existed as filler in between the monster scenes.
Felt like the movie didn't know what it wanted to be.
I liked Ghidora, but Rodan is a b***h
He just follows whoever is number 1 at the time.
She makes everything KINO
True, she cute. Also am I the only one who thought they were going to make her a psychic in it? It seemed like a missed opportunity to make the girl famous for playing a psychic character on another show into your series' version of Miki Saegusa.
Based on the anon the other day if he was who he said he was,
She's not even in the new one..
Missed opportunity
Gay. She was great in KotM and GvK, one of the few actually likeable characters besides Ken Watanabe's Serizawa
It's goyslop but the soundtrack is indeed ultrakino.
>managed to make gigantic pterodactyl come off as a smug c**t
fricking loved my night Rodan in this
They had to nerf Godzilla for Godzilla vs Kong because after fighting fricking King Ghidorah, a simple fricking monkey shouldn't cut it.
Blasting a hole into hollow earth wasn’t enough?
Honestly the biggest flaw in it was its placement. This should have been the finale to Legendary's Godzilla movies, they made Ghidorah too much of an uber powerful world ending threat that it makes everything after just seem weak.
I fully agree. But Legendary was afraid they couldn't make any more movies past KotM so they blew their load too soon.
>legendary didnt have enough faith in their movie
>now we're stuck with godzilla fighting random monkes for the foreseeable future instead of anything cool
they just needed to have a little GOD DAMN FAITH
Why can't they just handwave King Gidorah coming back or something?
I recall mecha ghidora being a thing
Because they already sort of brought him back in GvK. Something about using one of Ghidorah's skulls to power Mechagodzilla or something like that. I don't remember the details but I just remember Ghidorah playing into it somehow.
they used ghidoras brain in mecha godzilla. And he was defeated with a cup of coffee spilling on the controls. absolute shit tier movie. Also the fat beaner kid making a mockery of "conspiracy theorists" was absolute fricking cringe. very shameful display
Yeah, they used one of Ghidorah's heads to power Mecha Godzilla. That's why Mecha went loco.
they can still make movies with destoroyah and RED though
Just get Destroyah for the final film
You misspelled Varan anon.
>Varan
Toho wants to continue indefinitely if anything it's their partners that may have enough if it fails. No 3 movie rights thing.
Robots can be repaired/rebuilt.
Who's going to repair the insane, Ghidorah-fueled, city destroyer?
another Mechagodzilla
> Mother is an 80’s anime villain trying to hatefrick the planet into being a better place
It's nice that they listened to criticisms of the first one and actually showed us monsters fighting, but they ignored the criticisms of the human drama and doubled down on it. Pretty much the same deal with GvK. These movies just can't tell a decent human story outside of Cranston's small arc.
That street level 1st person perspective cinematography from the first film was magnificent though.
The marketing for this film was amazing, especially the trailer. Loved the designs of the kaiju and the soundtrack, but besides that the human characters and the plot really dragged the whole thing down, doesn’t help that they kept cutting away from the action.
one thing that bugged me was the dumbass military throwing jets and shit at the monsters knowing it does nothing. what's the point
well you know, if they had just stayed back and done nothing the liberal media would've b***h non-stop about them not doing anything
Daily reminder that Rodan went out like a b***h.
rodan a b***h
Movie sucked, ghidorahs CGI is all that saved it
This movie was terrible if you look at it holistically
Why would I do that?
>ghidorah appears
>it cuts to showing a cross in front of them in a very subtle manner, and the color palette is all red
>ghidorah is... le devil or whatever?
>this is deep
>otherwise full of marvel quips and weightless scaleless kaiju action which is a huge downgrade from Godzilla 2014
piece of shit cringe cringe flick
>scene takes place in country that is 80% Catholic
>use a cross in one shot because it looks cool and uses the setting
>people are still seething about this years later
I skipped seeing it in the theater because I thought the 2014 one wasn't very good, and I really ended up regretting that decision. KotM was great and I can only imagine how cool it would have been in IMAX or something.
I blew it.
RATE THE FILM PLEASE!!!

PROS
> Up until his fight with Ghidorah this is the most powerful / menacing / badass Rodan has been since 1956 & his design is very good.
> Godzilla still looks fantastic (2nd best G design ever IMO) as he did in 2014 which is even improved upon here with the more classic spines after his power up.
> Opening with the Mothra larva is fun.
> Mothra's adult form is great (but overly small)
> Ghidorah looks basically perfect.
> Vastly more monster screen time & fight scenes than 2014.
> Vastly better lighting than 2014.
> Some fantastic moments showing off a sense of scale (the moment of Ghidorah rearing back to blast MBB in the stadium a final time was breath taking in theaters)
> Good overall cast.
> Good score.
MIXED ELEMENTS
> Tone is largely about right, more serious than not.
> Charles Dance was a great villain choice but is notably underused (still better used than the villains in GVK)
> Ken Watanabe, Vera Farmiga & MBB put in good performances but needed to have been given more to do. The focus should have been on them & not Kyle Chandler.
CONS / NITPICKS
> Did not like Sally Hawkins being abruptly killed off & especially not in this manner where we could not even see who had been killed until we saw Serizawa mourning in the next scene.
> Too much rain, haze & murkiness (not nearly as bad as haters claim)
> The Ghidorah vs Rodan fight was too one sided & was barely shown and what we did get was the worst victim of the murky rain in the film. Should have had Rodan using his superior maneuverability / speed to hold Ghidorah off for a bit.
> They seemed to have shortened Godzilla's tail from 2014.
> Emma's motives / goals are moderately under explained.
> Sam Coleman is a completely pointless awkward character.
2014
PROS
> Score is good.
> Opening credits are cool & well done (score for it isn't quite as epic as the similar 98 credits)
> CGI is all largely very good.
2014
> 2014

rodan bursting out of the volcano was kino
Shin Godzilla is the best out of all of them 🙂
the metamorphize concept was great
Yep, Shin is amazing.
The original was better.
i'd watch that
This part was amazing, I do love the movie but after watching it 2nd or 3rd time I skim through the ending
Depends entirely on what you're looking for. On its own, still a good movie though.
Mothra a cute.
I don't mind experimenting with their interactions recently but to me their first movie is also the best.
Absolute kino.
This movie was fricking garbage.
>Beams straight at the camera
Makes me think he is destroying some idiot trying to record him on a phone.
Kaiju-folk even have their own language or something. Who isn't fully sapient? Skullcrawlers maybe.
How did they manage to make MechaGodzilla look WORSE than the Toho suit?
subversion for the sake of it is hollywood 101
To be fair there's no way video game CGI would ever be as good as old school suitmation.
jfc that design was awful
What makes it even worse is that the same guy designed a much better looking Mechagodzilla and it wasn't even for a fricking Godzilla movie.
This one is actually cool. I like the colors.
It also keeps the tradition going of Mechagodzilla having a fin or fins on his head, as opposed to GVK Mechagodzilla's bald ass head.
no joke this was one of the absolutely worst movies I've seen in a cinema
It had the best movie trailer that year
The 1st trailer is among the best of all fricking time - https://youtu.be/wVDtmouV9kM
classical music fits perfectly. watched the trailer a million times. i was so hyped.
i love the movie. rewatched a dozen times. i love mothra and ghidorah.
>directed by zack snyder
this lizard is not our enemy
hidetaki anno
yes, THAT anno
The best CGI the Japanese have ever pulled off.
>all those wards
i wish it meant something
I love big dumb Kaiju films, but only when they're big dumb Kaiju films. Shit like this was way too anime for me to take the serious tone at face value.
it doesn't feel anime at all in the context of the movie
Not him but it's literally just live action Evangelion, it's anime as frick. Anno only has one speed.
never seen it. not my problem
>it doesn't feel anime at all in the context of the movie
It's literally a shonen reveal where the villain just does some absurd display of power out of no where to write-out problems. He goes from breathing a beam for a few seconds to shitting out ten-dozen purple lasers and having some laughable bio-radar to explain it.
i'm not a weeb so i don't know what shonen means
To put it simply: It's a low-brow event to lazily write out solutions and up the ante in a way that makes no sense and wasn't previously established, but it looks cool so midwits love it.
My only gripe with the movie is the eco terrorists stuff, Ghidorah should've come from space or released by accident
But perfect Showa/Heisei mix in the tone for my tastes
>Ghidorah should've come from space
But he did though
What I meant is that they completely cut that subplot with eco terrorists.
And I hope that the true Kaiju Chad will appear at some point in the monsterverse
Forgot to include pic related
THE TRUE KAIJU CHAD
For me, it was the Manga UK techno dub of Gamera Guardian of the Galaxy.
I like the mix of the soothing original music, and the pumping British techno.
It's so fricking random when they fire up the techno lol.
Gets me pumped, and Gamera is based.
I prefer the Lake Texarkana dub for Gamera 2. Kinda hard to find the full version though, glad I downloaded it years ago
https://archive.org/details/laketexarkanagamera
Lol wtf
It's genuinely one of the best dubs I've ever heard and all of it was done drunkenly on a Thursday night or something for lolz. I wish there were more dubs like this
who made this?
This was done by the official dub team and included on the original disc for fun and lolz. Its done the same way the professional dib is done...which is to say I have no idea how that's done but that's how they did it
Oh okay pros doing a job would have access to the multi-track audio files and can just plug and play what they want from the original audio.
How do you even do this? Like how do you separate the existing dialogue from the rest of the audio?
uhhhh thats not Anguirus
If they were going to do an ecoterrorist film, they should have gone with Hedorah
I liked it.
ngl my theater ERUPTED as soon as his spikes started glowing. By the time he nuclear breathe'd the Muto it was pandemonium. 10/10 theater experience.
Nowadays they'd never have the balls or restraint to save the atomic breath reveal by not putting it in theaters.
There was a rumor that he won't have it. I somehow avoided all the spoilers despite not even caring whether I see them or not and my non-fan friend really liked it. It was one of the most necessary in this franchise history.
>There was a rumor that he won't have it
Unfounded, by the way. The internet just did what it does best and started coming up with bullshit theories.
I watched it in the cinema too, and the sound design was one of the highlights of the movie.
Yes, the sound was phenomenal. GvK sounded shit by comparison.
It's a shame most of the movie was boring aaron taylor johnson bullshit building up to this awesome scene.
That scene on the railroad bridge makes a perfect surround demo.
Same happened in my theater. It’s crazy how much better this movie would be and how improved its reputation would’ve been had they just included an initial fight scene with Godzilla and MUTO at the airport
i still cum to the chills i get from this. pure fricking aesthetical kino.
Overrated scene, or kino?
any movie that has real jumps in it is automatically kino
she shouldn't have been in the monsterverse to begin with, they cast her as a meme actor and to attract stranger things fans. shit character through and through.
This is honestly one of the most memorable scenes featuring modern military tech. I'm glad it used the same music as in the teaser. I thought they wouldn't because it's from A Space Odyssey.
all monsterverse films and 2001 a space odyssey are warner bros films.
id rather not have the classic godzilla theme like in godzilla 2014 vs gvk where it has 3 notes from it
>rodan dropping giant magma meteors
>better tuck down an alleyway 3 feet away to not get hit by molten lava falling from overhead
stupidest fricking movie
KotM is an incredibly flawed movie, even by Godzilla standards, but Rodan has never been better. For that, I can't really hate it.
Rodan was by far, the best redesign. the Volcanic wings.. genius.
Haven't seen this one yet. 2014 was alright but kinda mid, showa Godzilla is best Godzilla.
If you're a Godzilla purist you're going to hate the Legendary movies. But for what it's worth, King of the Monsters at least delivers on kaiju fights, unlike 2014.
I'm what you might call a Godzilla purist and I loved the Legendary movies, warts and all.
Is there even such a thing? If it's about the cgi then that excuse is over. And if it's about not being from Japan then I can only say that this is what Toho wanted since the 90s. They wanted the brand to be international. And they've done it. It's a stunning success for Godzilla as an icon.
>They wanted US studios to take all the financial risk while they soak up all the licensing fees and toy sales
>Is there even such a thing?
Godzilla fans that don't like the Legendary movies? Yeah there's loads of them.
Of course you're probably going to hate the human element of it though because that's always the weak point of these movies.
There's plenty of enjoyable human elements in Godzilla films. It's not an excuse to have shit writing and capeshit tier dialogue
2014 was kino and kotm is total shit
That b***h giving her speech about unleashing the monsters on humanity was the closest I had ever gotten to walking out of a theater, only stopping because I was with friends.
What a piece of garbage
>teenage girl needs to remind you that the whole point of keeping earth healthy is so people can live on it, killing all the people in service of the health of the earth means people wont live on earth, not to mention the grief of a desd son provoking this behavior likely has and will kill many more children in the process
>lady with like 10 doctorates in monster mind science somehow missed this minor detail and "OH YEAH OOPS"es to her death
I have no idea how this shit was signed off on.
So from what I gather the main reason people didn’t like King of the Monsters is because the plot was just mind-blowingly awful and it took itself seriously? Even the kaiju action couldn’t redeem it?
The Kaiju cut is the best way to watch the legendary movies.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/14YuVCpOl0XCXTfw09qId87zM6YYF_jFu/edit
omg basado my hermano
qrd on this edit? i have 0 gripes with kotm as it is.
It's basically just the kaiju bits with some scenes having a bit of human shit for context. I wouldn't recommend it to someone for a first time watch of the legendary movies but if you've already seen them it's pretty cool to just sit back and watch the fights.
so what you're saying is LET THEM FIGHT?
indeed.
>enter kaiju thread
>rewarded with cool things to watch
Every time. Thank you kaiju thread.
For me it's comfy eldricht invasion of Earth
Speaking of course just about this series in particular.
it also helps that every movie to date has had this israelite running the whole thing
the lack of his presence on gxk is gonna be why it's shit
Oh no Anguirus lost his spokesman?
>Godzilla X Kong's score is being done by fricking Junkie XL again
It's all so tiresome
It's what makes me worried about the rest. If Wingard hires someone like that again, someone who made no secret how he feels about Godzilla movies and who predictably released a very forgettable temp music score, what about other things that were wrong about GVK? I will end up regretting Godzilla is even in the movie. Kong is his boy apparently so he can stay for all I care.
>what about other things that were wrong about GVK?
besides the paper thin plot and shit casting?
why don't they make a movie about godzilla fighting and destroying shit? instead they put some shitty human plot that takes 90% of the time. No b***h, i'm here to watch big monsters fight not your fricking shitty ass plot.
the least they can do is flip the screentime and give the monsters 90% instead.
>why don't they make a movie about godzilla fighting and destroying shit?
Godzilla destroys half the planet in all of these
i really do not understand how anyone can sit through GVK and have something good to say about it. i'm a huge Godzilla fan but good lord i have my limits
I love the savage beatdown Godzilla gives Kong on the ocean and then in Tokyo, where he yells in his face and Kong just yields. The color palette in that scene is cool as frick too.
That's Hong Kong
Godzilla will probably visit Tokyo in the upcooming show. I just hope they give him a good reason to do so. Between 2014 and KotM he's still supposed to be more hands off.
Why doesn't Godzilla ever destroy israel?
samson option
> fricking idiot likes stupid ass movie
>Atomic breath can bore a hole through the Earth and cut through buildings like butter
>When it hits Kong, it only burns him
Big monke fight big dino
big monke and big dino fight robot dino
I mean, I get exactly what I want for the price I paid. Just like the Fast movies or Transformers
They don't lie about what they sell and it's fun.
More based that most companies to day that use beloved IP to promote their mental illness propaganda with trans' and homos
>Transformers
Pisses me off for the same reason I criticize the Legendary movies. The fights are poorly shot. To busy and not enough wide angle shots. You can barely tell what the frick is even going on.
king kong is lame
King Kong is based and any Godzilla fan should respect him for paving the way for giant monsters.
i mean MV kong. i just don't give a shit about him or his stupid hollow earth doings. i want godzilla
Ok that's fair.
I can recognize his importance to the genre and still not give a frick about ever seeing him in a movie ever again.
WITH A PURPOSEFUL GRIMACE AND A TERRIBLE SOUND
What was his problem?
premature birth
Godzilla was drinking pretty heavily while pregnant
It's a good movie. The only thing that really annoys me are the side characters, Bradley Whitford especially.
Mothra.
The thumbnail looked like no single shot I remember from the movie. Anyway good to have a waifu who understands you because you two are like the only creatures with millions of years of experience sharing the responsibility of the entire world on your shoulders. Someone to talk to. Best friends.
everyone always talk about Biollante, SpaceG, and Destoroyah, but nobody ever mentions based Battra
Flying monster fights are kind of lame. It's not their fault though.
>SpaceG
Mostly, people talk about how underwhelming of a movie it is.
Movie sucks, but the monster and design is kino.
>every fight shaky, obscured by a storm and at night time
>cuts away from the monster action every 5 seconds and focuses on the human story for 5 minutes before going back to 20 seconds of monsters
Frick this piece of shit. This was shit compared
And dont forget that loveable Ape known as Gayman!
Rodan vs jets was cgi kino
We getting space Godzilla/mecha gidorah this time?1
Or is it true it's Kongzilla time? (Ew)
That's them as friendos? Looks like it though it's going to be very awkward and slow. I'd prefer Godzilla interact with his own monster buddies. They kind of force it between him and Kong.
>They kind of force it between him and Kong.
Kong can't carry a franchise because almost no one gives a shit about some big monkey.
Kong's franchise is the same one story every time. Godzilla has an entire universe. I think we will see more monsters this time. I want to see at least a few nice interactions between them or some moments if there's a great battle at the end. Wingard needs to prove me wrong after GVK. Right now I think he's got only Kong on his mind.
the popular rumor is SpaceGodzilla
It has a goat tier trailer
The trailer made it look so good but it flopped and was quickly forgotten. Even the King Kong movie is pretty popular on streaming these days. Godzillabros we can't win
It was a complete improvement over G14, which is one of the worst Godzilla films hands down.
I also love mothra so much bros
Was just playing some Save The Earth on a PS2 emulator. Fun times.
>Steam port of the pipeworks trilogy never
>unleashed with decent controls never
I play Unleashed on emulator. It works, I enjoy the roster and that it has a story mode and four factions. Of course the mechanic is easily exploitable and therefore kinda broken. But it has the best beam clash system I've ever seen.
>I play Unleashed on emulator
The Wii version? How do the controls work?
Sure it was dragged down by fotm kid actor family shit but overall I fricking loved it. Was surprised to see it was so hated
Hopefully we see more regular Godzilla threads here again since the announcement.
hopefully they're as good as this one and not more of the marvelbabby shit flinging and the MBB schizo
i was the anon who started doing the >X DAYS UNTIL GODZILLA RETURNS with the gojira pepe threads and stopped because the only attention that they got was gays saying legendary/‘98 godzilla are better than japzilla or that homosexual MBB spamposter. i still see some of the other anons post them tho and i try to leave a bump, it makes me sad that they were so easily hijacked
sad to hear
Even if you don't care for the overall production some action bits will probably be some of the best stuff you'll see for a while, in a big-budget CGI sense.
Yuck, American shit. All nostalgiawank, pure ass writing.
Gross, no thanks.
When is Mecha King Ghidorah
Never also no aliens.
Never say never anon
Kind of in Godzilla vs. Kong.
