I personally like 47 ronin, he's also in bullet train.
He's in the new MK movie as scorpion but he's meh, the guy who plays Raiden plays the guy he beheaded in the last episode.
He's also in the last samurai
For me it was him and Fumi Nikaido who made the show unforgettable. She has such a delicate voice, soft as silk, and she carries herself with such grace. But she also has a very intimigating aura around her and crazy screen presence, she totally commands the room while being a 5'0 woman. I though I was way too old to have a crush on an actress, but I guess not quite.
That's just outside Edo (Tokyo), which is situated in the Kanto plain, Honshu's largest expanse of flat land. The only place you'd find more flat land in Japan is Hokkaido, which at this point was not permanently settled by anybody except Ainu.
japan hasnt had a single good, moderately budgeted film, since 1995 and love letter, what even is there for him to act in? some rurouni kenshin anime garbage? the yearly godzilla adaptation? quirky weird comedies with ensemble casts like cha no aji and survive style +5? some hideaki anno pretentious crap?
This. There was no real threat to Japan's stability displayed in the series outside of Christians that he is completely fine to deal with, just as Ishido was. Meanwhile Ishido was content to "enjoy the place he carved out for himself" and remain a silk-gloved despot in tandem with the dowager.
Ishido fricked up by not being as cruel as him. He even gave him the 40 days of mourning shit when at that point he was completely routed and could've been assassinated or forced to make an appearance. It's not like his own son attempting to assassinate someone couldn't have been pinned on him. But he only tried the assassination bit too late when his back was against the wall. He tried to play by the rules for too long. He also would've only married the psycho woman but instead she chickened out and after the show irl she was forced to kill herself and her son was too by Toranaga. She must've felt reaaaaaaally stupid.

Mariko and Ochiba's fates were the worst by far
Toranaga sends Mariko to convince Ochiba, Mariko honestly believed she was saving her friend but unknowingly she send her to her death because Toranaga wanted them death for years. Then Mariko sacrifices herself and with that she makes Ochiba seal her fate by siding with her killed. Absolutely vile

Yeah it was pretty fricked up. But I liked that they didn't give any woman even one real girl power moment. They're all just pawns and/or property for the men. They don't have any real impetus at all. They don't even know how owned they are, they're just pieces on a board. It's refreshingly brutal. That's what happened to them back in the day. He even hypes her up before he sends her out kek, she literally died thinking it meant something, that it accomplished something positive.

He didn't have as much latitude for cruelty as Toranaga after he put the other councilors under house arrest. From that moment he had a tiger by the tail and had to walk on eggshells to keep them from getting loose and turning on him.
Show miss-stepped hard by having the dowager flat out say this in like episode 4 or 5. Also it should have been clear that the vibe was off and he was a sociopath when he called Anjin childish after the gardener sepuku. Anyway, Yabushige was amazing and stole the show for me.
>genocide
??? >cultural and economic stagnation
The Edo Period saw over 150 years of growth and flourishing arts. Even as the economic stagnation set in the latter part of it, the art scene was still vibrant.
>economic stagnation
ah yes of course, israelites weren't running rampant creating money from thin air for number to go up 24/7 so that means economy was le bad
Yes, 13 years after the events of Shogun take place. The heir commited seppuku, Yodo-dono (Ochiba) said to have killed herself too, but her body was never found and verified. She had a good run all things considered.
he was at the right place at the right time, didn't have the strongest hand (not the weakest either) but played the board excellently and won. have to give him credit
>This shit is literally just Peaky Blinders set in Japan and without cringe rock music.
It's based on a self-insert novel by a British boomer. Of course it's power fantasy shit.
He isn't, thoughever. He ended civil wars, unified Japan and established a regime that brought 250 years of peace, economic growth and urbanization. Arguably, the greatest figure in Japanese history.
>Take power via brutal means >Vastly improve society
vs. >Take power via brutal means >zillions die of famine in your communist shithole
totally the same thing
Charisma. He steals every single scene he's in, even while sharing the screen with a titan like Sanada. He's so charismatic in this role and has insane screen presence.
Its amusing how he's so treacherous but everyone around him knows so he's constantly out manoeuvred or getting his attempts to turncoat blocked, then he
Resigns to seppuku and gives a relatively subdued death poem
Finished the first episode a couple of days ago. This one's good, I'm savoring it. Gonna wait a week to watch each episode.
Feel free to post spoilers, I'm not a redditor
He will never leave, and his ship will be continually burned and scuttled time and time again because he's Toranaga's pet and he's not allowed to leave or kill himself. Him being allowed to resurface it and restore it is just a thing he allows to keep the Aijin sane. This is all said in the last episode.
I think that it becomes Stockholm syndrome, because when Tokugawa died Adams didn't return to England.
I know he had a life in Japan but I think that it's curious.
>show starts off 10/10 >englishman vs spainard bantz >protestants vs catholics >japanese torturing the ship crew >prostitute listening in on conversations and sewing demise between leaders >boats >secret spy samurai

>show is called shogun >there are no shoguns in it
I spent the whole show waiting for the showdown between Torunaga and Ishido and for him to become Shogun but nothing happens. he maybe wins and maybe becomes Shogun off screen after the show finishes.
Still a good show and I would want a season 2 except it will probably be trash because it was only good because it was based on a boom.
I thought it ended perfectly, even if I was expecting sekigahara battle and a 'coronation' of sorts as the ending. And I agree, I'm skeptical about the following seasons.

What's the motivation for them not killing the English guy
this guy is an underrated actor
is he respected in the japans?
They used to like him but now think he's a sellout after 47 Ronin
They like him again after Shogun
what are his best kinos
I personally like 47 ronin, he's also in bullet train.

a sellout for starring in an objectively better film than any japanese one that came around the same period?

Im so glad Magima san lived.
nah you are just waifugayging
someone say waifu gayging?
Just relax and appreciate that this show has four top-tier cuties for different tastes instead of baboons who barely look like women.
Somebody post the "crafty villain" webm
Kek, until season 2, the usual suspects have this show high on their deconstruction agenda.
Season 2 being announced was the end.
Did they forget that Japan is a bunch of hills?
Hills are easy to miss when you squint all the time

look at my hard nuts, lady!
Hard to believe that someone as intimidating was played by someone thit cute
she looks cuter in this picture than in the show.
They aged her up a bit for the show with makeup, she's actually 4 years younger than Mariko's actress
* Two years younger
You can always watch her other jap dramas. Her latest one was with a korean last season.
She's a mix of sexy and cute and I'm not going to let Sexy stupid love stop me from using that description.
Disgusting.
Might as well be a Black person standing there.
Why did they put a decent lady from the Jap-ans with a asiatic?
she was shit. peak "I'M ACTING!!!!"
I think you mean Jap-ans

bump
he's done nothing wrong
he 4d chessed using his most loyal subjects lives into doing explicitly what he promised he wouldn't
They knew their duty well, and he would not yield. It was for the betterment of Japan
it was for the betterment of his own power. Casually killing your own people to provoke a war is no bueno dude
This. There was no real threat to Japan's stability displayed in the series outside of Christians that he is completely fine to deal with, just as Ishido was. Meanwhile Ishido was content to "enjoy the place he carved out for himself" and remain a silk-gloved despot in tandem with the dowager.

Yeah they needed a vibe check fr.
on god no cap??
She isn't the MC and she's barely a character.
>Tokugawa, the great unifier if Japan, ushering in the first and only peaceful time of japan

yeah
Well, I should say as peacefully as a mongoloid can get.
Ended wars from 1601 or whenever untill the late 1800s
Europe is constantly at war too
Where did I suggest eurocucks aren't trash?

That's just what Western Canada looks like. It's pretty jarring whenever I cross the border in from Washington.

This is Toranaga if he lived in present day
thought it was kojima for a sec
damn

This homosexual was such an unhelpful moron in Lost.

Wait Toranaga kills Ochiba and the heir???
Just like in the real life events
He killed Yodogimi
Yes, 13 years after the events of Shogun take place. The heir commited seppuku, Yodo-dono (Ochiba) said to have killed herself too, but her body was never found and verified. She had a good run all things considered.
In the book it's implied it happens waaaay earlier if not almost immediately, not 13 years later
I was actually talking about what happened irl
That's nor mariko. The only character more despicable than him
The catholic cucks take the prize
the whole "toranaga ackshully 4d keikakud all this" seems like a cope by the japanese. just like bismarck he was in the right place at the right time
it's both
he was at the right place at the right time, didn't have the strongest hand (not the weakest either) but played the board excellently and won. have to give him credit
>Does nothing

How does he do it.
And the person he was based on was "toranaga's" closest advisor and outlived him but a few months.
Charisma. He steals every single scene he's in, even while sharing the screen with a titan like Sanada. He's so charismatic in this role and has insane screen presence.
He's ichi the killer
i just realised he's literally a japanese version of titus pullo
Name literally one bad thing that Pullo did
died
Took time away from more interesting plotlines such as ceasar
He upset the wa of Vorenus's insula when he killed Eirene's boyfriend.
He's dumb enough that I can relate to him while also being successful enough that I can self insert.
Its amusing how he's so treacherous but everyone around him knows so he's constantly out manoeuvred or getting his attempts to turncoat blocked, then he
Resigns to seppuku and gives a relatively subdued death poem
Yabushige commits seppuku in the last episode.
Blackthorn never gets his ship back.
Toranaga is lying about literally everything.
but he does get his ship back, even if it's wrecked
He will never leave, and his ship will be continually burned and scuttled time and time again because he's Toranaga's pet and he's not allowed to leave or kill himself. Him being allowed to resurface it and restore it is just a thing he allows to keep the Aijin sane. This is all said in the last episode.
Toranaga will burn it everytime it's ready to sail
Blackthorne (like the character he's based on, William Adams) will never leave Japan and die there
I think that it becomes Stockholm syndrome, because when Tokugawa died Adams didn't return to England.
I know he had a life in Japan but I think that it's curious.
>protagonist is cleary the villian
WTF you all may make me watch this & I said I wont cause its not in English
frick that chink shit
There are no heroes or villains in war, as long as you win, like Toranaga says
>History

Powerful.
And unironically 100% true.
This character is the daughter of the man who had Yasuke as his retainer ~8 years prior to the events of the show.
She was BLACKED
uh, I thought she was Hideyoshi's concubine
Yeah, like 4 years after Yasuke blacked her.

It's historical fiction, he wins, b3comes shogun, dies a few years later, his dynasty stays intact until the mid 1800s when America raped Japan.
>America
America just lubed up Japan. It was the Euros doing the raping.
I thought it ended perfectly, even if I was expecting sekigahara battle and a 'coronation' of sorts as the ending. And I agree, I'm skeptical about the following seasons.

I've been reading tai-pan after finishing shogun, I fricking hate the chinese
Is the book good?
Dunno, I'm still in pag 1
Taipan is my favorite its about the start of the colony of hong kong
its fricking great
Ye
Hes not the villain.
His plan could have succeeded with no one dying at all but his vassals wanted to throw their lives away.
Only a strong ruler could unite Japan against the foreign devils.
Why the frick do you think the Dutch were there?
the show was boring and makes Japs look batshit
japs are batshit. did you miss the last 100 years?
Overall I liked Shogun but the ending was a big let down
It felt like they were building up to a final climatic battle and then the show just ends
Battle would've been cool but I didn't mind the route they went with and it felt in line with Toranaga's character who seemed reluctant to fight
Only real complaint I had was that they basically cut like 90% of the relationship between mariko and blackthorne. Like they only get together right before her husband comes back, then they are split for the rest of the show until her death. It makes his feelings at the end feel less earned.
>one European ship could solo Japan's entire Navy
lol
I'm watching the first episode, I have no fricking idea what's going on and it's nearly finished
Everyone here is a fricking weeb so most had some knowledge of the Sengoku period.
I guess it can be confusing if you don't know anything about it.
I'm a weeb too but the shit here is very specific to the warring states period which I never really gave a frick about, never played dynasty warriors or any of the other strategy shit about that period
What's the motivation for them not killing the English guy
They keep him alive to frick with the Catholics.
> still looking at things in terms of heroes and villains.
Shameful display.
It's a power game. If you go into this show thinking there le good guys and le bad guys like it's a fricking Marvel movie you are a complete moron.
