Probably because it coasts them money for you to store and stream you gay shit
It was inevitable as they offered people unparalleled service to get you on to the platform and now they are reeling you in
This is why I saw the writing on the wall with online gaming 20 years ago
And the service is no longer unparalleled and gets worse as the content gets diffused to more and more platforms. People I know are increasingly turning back to piracy as the default because of this.
Also how do I just know an Aussie wrote this post?
I'm NOT advocating purchasing content digitally, but I imagine if you went with Apple or Amazon, the content you purchase wouldn't go missing. They wouldn't want that kind of ding to their service. If I remember reading right, a lot of people who bought movies through Apple wound up getting free 4k upgrades.
Nobody buys shit on PS Store, so Sony doesn't give a shit.

This. C&D letters are a scare tactic that you can wipe your ass with

no, they literally arent. you entered the contract explicitly allowing this >doesn’t trump the law
and the law states that sonys content licensing agreement legally bars them from continuing to host the content. they are FOLLOWING the law, not breaching it
in order to prove that, you'd need to file a civil suit against a massive corporation with enough money to buy and sell you, over and over, until the sun burns out.
So pay a lawyer $300/hr to file suit, and when the company finally responds with an offer to an apple gift card to purchase the episodes on iTunes, you get to take it, and be out more than the money to just go and buy everything all over again.
>pay to stream product, not own it >literally agree upfront openly, with your signature, that you are paying for the service, not the product >sony becomes LEGALLY OBLIGED to stop hosting product >aah yes surely the law will rule against sony for the crime of...obeying their legal obligations
it doesnt have to be in this case. the entire cause of the problem stems from the fact that sony is obeying the law by no longer hosting the product. you cant sue them for obeying the law
As someone who has had a PS3 since launch, as well as buying a PS4 and PS5 later, I never understood why anyone would buy anything but games on PS Store.
I don't really buy movies via digital distribution, but if I did, I would buy stuff on Amazon or Apple TV. Trillion dollar companies seem like they aren't gonna put up with movie companies trying to frick them around.
I checked it out for about an hour. That said, I did do a shitload of Folding at Home, since I could play music and have a nice TV screensaver while I did homework in college.

I'm 100% that Sony pays a lot of money for not receiving any criticism like Disney, Netflix amd amazon got.
I can't help but imagine that the PS Store is absolutely devoid of TV/Movie purchases. Even if all you have is an old PS3 from 2006, you can still access Amazon Prime, and it would be way smarter to purchase it from there.
Learn to read, dumbass. Smarter. Not smart. If you buy it on Amazon or Apple, you can watch it on literally any device you buy later. If you buy it on PS Store, then you can only ever watch it on Playstations.

You know something Cinemaphile?
I just got some chinkware thing some shill on Cinemaphile recommended me for old games
Handheld made out of spare cellphone parts
I got it for like 50 or 60 bucks on sale, waited a few weeks, and took it out of my mailbox, and I'm supposed to get a better microSD card and install a custom linux on it and set up all the games myself, and hey maybe I will sometime, but the thing is, it has like nine separate collections of "retroarch" games whatever that is, and 20 different things listed under regular "games" and each thing is like a separate console it emulates, except one of them is like "arcade" which is apparently different from "retroarch" and has its own subfolders for different arcade platforms and games and stuff.
And I opened one, ONE of these twenty folders, the GBA emulation one, and it lists 1457 games. 1457 of them. And I never got to have consoles or handhelds as a kid so all of these games are completely entirely new for me unless they were one of the five or ten games that got an early-2000s PC port, or were just for PC, and my parents got me that game for christmas and let me play on the weekends.
I just opened up Donkey Kong Country for the first time ever, played one level, and was like "ah, seems cool but maybe I'll try FireRed."
And there are people out there paying for new consoles, and then buying conditional rights to watch movies on their console and then getting cut off from their purchases because muh riaa muh licensing
1457 games, anons. If 1% of them are worth playing that's 145 games. And that's in one of 20 folders. Not including the ones in the other category, not taking into account how many might be good in the retro section. And not just handheld games I can emulate PS games and everything, easy, things you could never get in an actual app store or even on Steam. Not counting the retroarch stuff. And they were free, and I can add more, and I just paid for the hardware, $60, old phone hardware.
No I paid (the same price as a cheap phone with similar hardware) for a universal game emulating handheld device.
They just pirated, organized, debugged and tested everything for me as a service.
The whole "pretending to be a guy who can't read more than three words at a time" bit kind of wore itself out last decade, anon
And it would only apply here if you were posting from a device cheaper than the one I described
>for a universal game emulating handheld device.
Kek anon you can do that in your phone right now (for free)
Yes, or, for less money I could have it done for me and play on a device with actual buttons instead of a fricking touchscreen. Why is Cinemaphile so devoted to the pretending to be moronic bit? It's only funny for something like baneposting.
I was planning to jump ship this generation anyways on account of Starfield, but I'm not even sure I will buy a video game console this generation, seeing as it's half over and there is nothing but crap.
I stopped buying in the 360 era.
pc is way better. same shitty games if you want to play them, and all the good games you've had in the past.

How is this legal? This isn't like paying for a streaming service. If you purchased content then you should own it. And for them to take it away they should have to provide a refund.

apparently the reason australia is such a 1984 hell hole is because they dont have anything resembling a bill or rights/constitution so the politicians there just go all willy nilly and can do literally anything they want easily and since they arent allowed to have guns anymore either its not like the people are going to do anything about it
Should I buy a PS5, Series X, or build a PC bros? I want to get back into vidya since movies are shit now. Haven't played a new game since 2014. (it was dark souls 2)
PC or PS5 depending on what you want to do. PS5 will be easy, and backwards compatible with the PS4, so your old games will still work. PC will have way more options (both good and bad), and has the potential to look better, depending on how much you're willing to sink into it.
Tl;dr PS5 if you wanna play your old games and have something that "just werks" every time. If you don't mind fiddling around with shit, and have no desire to play your old games, then PC.

no, they literally arent. you entered the contract explicitly allowing this
>doesn’t trump the law
and the law states that sonys content licensing agreement legally bars them from continuing to host the content. they are FOLLOWING the law, not breaching it
ToS often break lots of consumer laws. Even civil rights laws.
in order to prove that, you'd need to file a civil suit against a massive corporation with enough money to buy and sell you, over and over, until the sun burns out.
Usually its pretty obvious and when the government agencies get wind of it its over.
hence why ToS agreements are now longer than war and peace.
also the larger corporations just own government agencies right now, so, so much for them.
That chicanery won't stand in a court of law.
Neither does any of monsanto's shenanigans, but as long as the case never makes it to court, all is good.
So pay a lawyer $300/hr to file suit, and when the company finally responds with an offer to an apple gift card to purchase the episodes on iTunes, you get to take it, and be out more than the money to just go and buy everything all over again.
Nah I'll just advise the law firm to contact every single PlayStation owner and build a case from there
Then they'll settle it, and everyone will get $3, while the law firm makes millions or billions.
As long as the israelites have to pay someone I'll take it
The israelites will be paying other israelites.
>pay to stream product, not own it
>literally agree upfront openly, with your signature, that you are paying for the service, not the product

>aah yes surely the law will rule against sony for the crime of...obeying their legal obligations
nice power fantasy
ToS is not a hard law Black person, it can be overruled if found to be moronic in a court.
it doesnt have to be in this case. the entire cause of the problem stems from the fact that sony is obeying the law by no longer hosting the product. you cant sue them for obeying the law
sorry, goy.
shoulda read the fine print
You shouldn't have to be a lawyer to understand TOS and not be screwed over.
You paid for it, so if they take your copy away without giving you a full refund, just pirate it.
I only own a couple of things from back when the video store launched on the PS3 (just to check it out). Nothing from Discovery though.

having worked at a pound before, all those dogs were going to get killed anyway, normies just like to pretend that arent sentencing the animal to death by giving it to the pound when they really are
on the other hand i dont consider aussies to be human and would like to see the entire island since with a complete loss of life
going to australia is like the most surreal thing ever. full of nothing but shitskins and literally the one(1) well dressed white couple i saw the entire time spent 30+ minutes getting lectured to by an undercover white cop about something. everyone was super paranoid and convinced i was an undercover cop too while also complaining about getting constantly robed by abbos but not being able to do anything about it since they dont have gun and the cops refuse to care in any way. i picked up a maxium magazine and it was full of Al-Qaeda tier schizo ranting about america and how all evils of the world are cause by america lol. literally just full multiple pages of bizarre rants and accusations like claiming america invented unhealthy people
Depends on the shelter. At least in the states, there are plenty of no kill shelters.
apparently the reason australia is such a 1984 hell hole is because they dont have anything resembling a bill or rights/constitution so the politicians there just go all willy nilly and can do literally anything they want easily and since they arent allowed to have guns anymore either its not like the people are going to do anything about it
If you were an island of convicts and they took your guns, it makes sense why they're mad all the time
To be fair, Americans have more guns than people and still don't do anything with them outside of the odd rampage against randoms.
They keep less people from becoming robbers.
If you don't mind fiddling around with shit, and have no desire to play your old games, then PC.
>buying digital ever
Physical chads win again
im having a good chuckle remembering all the people ive seen proclaim the superiority of digital media over physical
Support physical.
Physical media for movies is always the way to go
Unfortunately 99% of video games these days all have patches and updates and dlc that will disappear and make your physical copy useless
>get a big hard drive
>install and update all your games up to date
>problem solved
>paying to own nothing
ishygddt
I heckin' love the futurino! Past generations truly lived in hell with those pesky "rights" "freedom" and "private ownership" of things.
The only thing i ever bought off the ps video store was a couple episodes of the office and viva la bam
>not owning a physical copy of every game/movie you play/watch
if this is you, you're a certified moron
>Digital
