Really, between Magneto and Apocalypse's repeated jackass antics as diplomats, the UK telling them to piss off, Krakoa taking over Mars and declaring their tiny island the ruler of the solar system, eco terrorist Nature Girl going on television and outright calling herself an X-man after repeatedly brutally murdering people, and now this immortality leak, I just thank my lucky stars that the main X-men team is still actually saving the world and that the Krakoan wonder drugs are keeping the world from nuking Krakoa altogether. And then tell them to get their fricking asses on acting like they want to play nice with others now that they're in a position of power, especially with the cape community, because the moment a world ending event happens everyone goes nuts and rushes to topple the king of shit mountain from their throne, and so far the X-men have been signalling to the world they've hot-glued their asses to it.
They're not going to listen, of course, but if I still get paid then I won't care.

Damn good question, since most of the X-men that I would pick for that are being put into more important active roles right now. But if I had my pick, there's four I could think of off the top of my head. Jean Gray, since she's actually been to the UN to host a proper talk on human rights where mutants are concerned. Storm, since not only does she have experience due to being married with T'challa but she's honestly one of the more level-headed X-men leaders out there. Angel, since being a rich boy all his life and running a company means he's far better equipped to handle public relations than 80% of the other people living on his island, he's pretty, he's charming, and iirc he's one of the more popular mutants in-universe. And finally, Emma Frost. I loathe her personality, but if anyone was equipped to handle the tightrope wire business of international diplomacy and public relations, she'd be it. She'd probably still frick it up by trying to use her powers on someone with psychic blockers, but on the whole she'd do the job well.
And as far as good moves with the superhero community go, that's easy. Just reach out more and work together. The X-men have a long history of pushing away or outright fighting off other hero teams, and showed considerable backlash to one of the few visible attempts between humans and mutants working together with the Avengers Unity Squad. That and Devil's Reign had Storm as unofficial spokesperson basically say that the X-men don't give a damn about the no-superhero law passed there. So at this point, just putting in the bare minimum of like doing a joint operation with the Avengers or having a photo shoot with Spider-Man would be a nice start.
While you're 100% right, I'm just going through all the most visibly crass mistakes the X-men did. But highlighting that Magneto and Apocalypse are not actively involved in politics anymore would absolutely be one of the first things I'd do.
Spider-Man is a menace, do you want to make Krakoa's public image even worse?
I dunno, the amount of spider-man merchandise definitely says he's popular, at least with the kids. That and with the Daily Bugle running that story saying he might be a mutant, could spin it as possibly reaching out to a mutant hero that chose to retain their US citizenship. It'd be worth the risk.
Magneto and Apocalypse are both off of the Quiet Council now. Literal Nazi Nathaniel Essex is still on there though. Plus terrorists like Destiny and Mystique.
