    >You've been killing criminals all these years because your wife and daughter were gunned down in front of you... but acshually they were going to leave you!
Uh... okay? They still died? Are the writers so autistic they think it's the 'not being with him' that was the issue and not the 'savagely gunned down in a random act of violence' part that tweaked Frank out?

Also holy Frick marlel have not written a single good book for over a decade now.

I mean this isn't really anything new. The Punisher was never about vengeance. He killed criminals because he liked it and his whole "wife and child" died was just what set him off, but he avenged them fairly quickly and kept on being The Punisher for years. He was always just a vet who never left the jungle.

Pretty much. The fact that he's already confirmed to be returning for the new season of Daredevil already makes this story moot.

How do you think they're going to retcon it? I think that they're going to reveal that Maria was actually a Skrull the entire time who shapeshifted into the Punisher's wife while the real Maria is still dead.

There used to be 3 constants in comic book deaths
        >Barry Allen's Flash
        >Gwen Stacy
        >Uncle Ben
You all know by now what happened to the first two. Uncle Ben was a bit of a loophole because he came back multiple times as an alternate universe variant. But then again, so did Gwen. Picrel is Ben from a universe where he became Spider-Man. Doctor Octopus (as Spider-Man) gives a pep talk to Ben (instead of Peter) in order to convince him to help their cause

This. I read both Superior Spider-Man runs and they were genuinely good. Unfortunately the damage to Peter's personal relationships is the downside of it since Otto didn't try very hard to actually be like him. But the second Superior run was sad at the end. I wish he hadn't done what he did, even though he felt he had to.

This happens literally every time leftists try to write morality-narratives, especially in comics.
You have to remember that leftists basically have inverted morals. As a result, when they create a story with a clearly defined a "good guy" and "bad guy" and put it on paper, when normal people read it they get completely confused compared to what the intended narrative was. Because leftists and normal people have completely different ideas on how those terms are defined.

The character suffers terminally from conflicting writer visions. At one point he joins Hydra for moronic reasons, realizes his mistake, and his response is to brutally murder prospective recruits who haven’t even joined the organization or did anything bad yet
In a coherent storyline by one author this would be called hypocrisy. But capeshit is hypocritical by default because every new writer who walks in to do their take on the existing character has no qualms about undoing or contradicting his predecessor’s storyline
No wonder people have turned to manga/anime. Capeshit comics really went down the tubes

Regardless of the context for this isn`t there a contradiction between judging him over all those that he`s killed and killing him herself? You can`t really make a coherent speech about how wrong is to become a lawless avenger and then take justice in your own hands and proceed with an execution. It`s contradictory and makes no sense at all.

I've watch Time with Sean Bean, he's not fit anymore. Unless he gets in shape i don't think that's a go. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is an ok choice, but his range is limited. I don't see him playing a murderous military tactician without trying to insert a joke. Gerard Butler would work for sure.

Stephen Lang and I think Scott Glenn can still do it, maybe Dolph can come back if you need a brick shit house Frank. I think Vince Vaughn can do it because of that prison movie he did. Hell, I think even Jon Hamm or Brad Pitt could do it

Dolph is a great idea, he's proven he can do it already. I would have laughed a few years ago with the Vince Vaughn idea, but after True Detective and Brawl, i have to say it could work.

Stephen Lang and I think Scott Glenn can still do it, maybe Dolph can come back if you need a brick shit house Frank. I think Vince Vaughn can do it because of that prison movie he did. Hell, I think even Jon Hamm or Brad Pitt could do it

this is the worst iteration of the punisher. I fricking hate how much extra Nintendo bonus points the Netflix shows get because they were the first to take the medium seriously

I just don't like him. I don't like his scrawny manlet look. I don't like him channeling Rocky Balboa every time he talks. I don't like how the actor that plays him is a far left anti gun lib which may pay a part in how he is played. I hate all of it. All the punishers have been pretty bad so far maybe the War Zone guy got it the closest but he was in a shit movie and is dead now. Plus Disney is only going to make this character worse.......God.......Disney owns the Punisher.......what hellscape am I living in?

The ironic thing is, this is the run that got this black friend of mine into the Punisher back in high school. He thought it was cool as shit he fought them tactically and turned their stupidity against them.

    >write edgy anti-hero
    >explore complex themes, gray areas and difficult life or death situations
    >sociopathic cops start idolizing your clearly mentally ill serial killer comic book character
    >sociopathic cops paint your logo on the guns they use to shoot unarmed non-violent criminals

yeah i cant say im surprised to see them walk this back. pretending to be a moron inevitably attracts the actual morons. i guess it works the same way with edgy anti-heroes and impotent little men looking to feel big.

I could write paragraphs about how shitty and disrespectful to the character the latest Punisher run was but, much like my penis, it's length would be embarrassing so I'll just leave it alone and sum it up.
    >Punisher is now the leader of the Hand, evil demon-worshipping ninja cult
    >They brought his wife back from the dead, which is why he's doing what they want
    >Also likes the resources they've given him to punish people
    >Only uses a sword now, uses a pistol like twice the whole run
    >Has magic powers now and can fly
    >New logo sucks ass since the old one is "le problematic"
    >Wife can't remember that she and her kids died
    >Punisher's origin is retconned into him being a sociopath since birth that set a man on fire as a child
    >No longer a badass military man that lost everything in a park
    >Now his backstory is he preferred to go to state executions than spend time with his family and his wife was trying to divorce him in the park that day
    >Wife shoots him, avengers catch him
    >He uses magic to blow himself up
    >Is actually just in another dimension helping children
There's so much more. Please read it to see how awful it is and the pretentious little message the writer leaves at the end.

did jason aaron write this run? he'd previously tried to stablish that it was frank who was going to dump his wife and leave her with the kids, and she was going to tell her at the park (this to explain why his mind was elsewhere and he did not notice the obvious signs a shootout was about to start)

I don't know but I hate that idea. I like his story being a guy that finally got out of the jungle of vietnam and settling down into a peaceful life, only to have it ripped away from him and turning him in to this force of nature.

It is. It's always been his thing to assassinate the characters he writes. He just apes so hard on ennis' run that he had to try to top it with his punishermax and this one while ignoring frank's characterization from the earlier runs. There's a hilarious page at the end of this run where he pulls a definition from dictionary.com

Lefty men are so pathetic, dude. They just have this feminine, narcissistic, immature idea of what "tough" and "serious". It's like they're internally struggling with writing masculine things because at any moment they have the urge to put on high heels and get their ass plowed.

Look at that horrible sterile colouring, generic art..shit dialogue. Holy shit the comics are just like the movies.

Really bad. Marvel and DC are creatively dead..where does comics go as a medium from here, can they be de-politicised?

Talk shit about Lee Liefeld and McFarlane but you can’t deny there was purity in the imperfect lines and anatomy of their work that bled off the page with this sort of youthful, bouncy enthusiasm. Good stories no but legit works of art. I can’t imagine why anyone would give marvel or dc cash these days

      >..where does comics go as a medium from here, can they be de-politicised?
I'd say 60% of the indies are just stories being told with no agenda. And by indies I don't mean garbage like idw. Anything big 2 adjacent has at least 1 or 2 or more agenda based stories. You have to find a decent publisher and pray they don't go that route.

        >I'd say 60% of the indies are just stories being told with no agenda.
I don't really read indie stuff but I agree with modern comics having too much of an agenda. There's nothing wrong with trying to say something, but it should be something well-written and genuinely thought-provoking. What comics should be doing is giving us interesting stories. I can't really think of any stories from comics in probably the past 10 years that there has been hype around. Immortal Hulk is the only one that comes to mind. And that was because it was an interesting take on an old character. Now we just get character assassination like The Punisher and Spider-Man.

modern comics aren't trying to say something. it's just a bunch of talentless people who wanted to get into writing for tv shows who ended up stuck in jobs they hate writing stories they don't care about for a medium they loathe. that's why all the stories are dumb shit that doesn't make any sense, chrischan-tier analogies to trivial interpersonal problems the author has IRL, or just outright super heroes sitting around entire issues eating food and chatting about nothing in particular

I'd argue that mainstream runs are the agenda laden ones. Limited series' and elseworlds stuff like dc black label ones, The Question's 3 issue mini-series comes to mind, are good but vary in quality. Immortal Hulk was great but Ewing himself is a bleeding heart so some story beats suffered for it, especially the whole controversy with him selling out the artist. Also, I thought Spencer's Spider-Man was great to a point but signs pointed to that shithead of an editor Nick Lowe ruining it for everyone. What

says is true, most of the writers right now are just there to pad their resume so they can move on to the next thing with no care for the product. Not to mention there's spineless editors in the mix that won't say no because they're lifers and don't want to lose their jobs
