Like I said, GoT was fun on the first watch bc of the nonstop shocks and killing off main characters etc, but trying to watch it again had me bored out of my skull already knowing all the gotchas, but I've watched LOTR many times and it's 10/10 every time no exceptions
Season 1 is kino, when they could follow the book and it was all dialog and small crimes. Everything after is mid.
It was a victim of it's own success. The more popular it got, the more they felt the pressure to go bigger and dumber.
I think it was just too big for television really, but D&D didn't help. With every choice they made it got worse.

It literally can't be. Numerous characters are dead or alive in the show that aren't in the book, characters are cut in the show, or are fundamentally different. A bullet point is easy to write out, it doesn't result in the same ending.

What I said is a literal fact. Fundamental parts of the show are different from the books. You literally are not able to have the same ending, even putting aside how key writing is in how an ending comes across (consider turns like Danaerys, in the show it comes out of nowhere at the last minute, in the books it's already being built since early on that she has a vengeful or violent streak in her and is short sighted, if that is part of the endgame, it will be entirely different in the hypothetical world where GRRM lives to be 130).

I honestly think that part of the reason why George has been dragging his feet so badly on finishing ASOIAF is that his planned ending is, in broad points, what was already done in the show. And he saw how much fans hated that back in 2019, so he's panicked and has since been wasting his time desperately stalling by doing all these side projects, or trying to come up with some different conclusion.

Barristan literally compared her to her father, saying every time he killed someone it made him feel more powerful and righteous, because she had just crucified all the noble masters, including innocent ones, and was on track to become the Mad Queen.
The only time she *doesn't* look insane is that short time between when she meets Jon Snow and when they go to the North. As soon as they get there she threatens Jon to have Sansa killed for disrespect if he doesn't put her in her place. She's completely bonkers.
You're absolutely right on that last point. But, if the end points of both the show and the books are broadly and ultimately the same, a part of me feels like GRRM would be worried that the fans would hate his ending as much as they hated the show's.
The ONLY reason the shows ending sucked (other than them voting for kinds and bran the gay crustoid becoming king) was that it was poorly produced and low quality. In another timeline you could have the same exact show with the same events but have the dialogue sound better and make more sense with cooler cinematography etc. Does this go without saying?
