While I can get what Jeph is going for here, it doesn't work. You don't just accidentally get a full ride scholarship to a private university. If Jeph is trying to pull a tiger mom sort of deal it doesn't make sense that they'd be forcing her to attend a small liberal arts college or be fine with her sister being a personal shopper who needs two roommates to get by. Ayo's active deception about her non-attendance and avoidance of the issue points instead to a fairly serious psychological issue. At best she has pretty severe imposter syndrome to the point of it impairing her life, and at worst she's dangerously depressed. Also if she never attended classes at all then she shouldn't have a GPA at all.
We don't know what their parents are like. Maybe they forced Ayo to go to a college she didn't want to just because her sister was nearby, and that was the final straw in a pattern of them making decisions for her.
>You don't just accidentally get a full ride scholarship to a private university.
At no point is it established to be accidental. >If Jeph is trying to pull a tiger mom
That's not always needed. Sometimes you do stuff because you think you are expected to.
What anon meant was that Ayo was not a fuckup in order to get a full ride scholarship.
I disagree. Ayo is black, so as long as she wrote her name with 50 or fewer errors, she's in for free. And of she makes more than that, the marker was clearly racist and she gets in anyway.
Needless to say, first sign of expectations, she fucks up. All she had to do was show up and they'd pass her.
I think it's probably not uncommon for a formerly good high school student to suddenly collapse once they've moved into the college dorms and their family isn't there to keep pressure on them.
This. "I was a super genius up until college; then I burned out." is an incredibly common thing that happens with kids who were treated as "gifted" in public school. Suddenly, the kid who was really good at math is suddenly treated as though they ought to be taking upper division classes and it all falls apart. And with no parents to monitor them nor having a report card to every few weeks, a burnout can literally just do ANYTHING ELSE aside from go to class and not get found out until the end of the semester.
25 comics of build up to her telling her sister, revealed she quit school yesterday, hugs and resolution at the bottom of today's panel. Jeph just loves to resolve drama as quickly as possible.
I don't know. It's not even the usual boring storyline, we already got this story with Liz. Now if Jeph was going to parallel Ayo and Liz that'd be one thing, but so far the plot beats largely align.
my dude there's hotter black chicks in the panel, let alone in the comic. Unless you have a fetish for women with the emotional maturity of a middle schooler but not the body of one (otherwise you'd be on team Dr. e-boi) I'm really not sure what Ayo does for you.
As a man who ~15 years ago had sloppy makeouts in the passenger seat of a car with a latina whose Bust + Hips - Waist > IQ and a rotating cast of almost-boyfriends, I can understand the allure.
Shit ain't worth it yo
We've got drugs for venereal diseases but there's not a doctor on earth that'll fix what can be done to you by a hellfire woman who plays the race card like an Uno +4.
So something made her shit the bed at college despite her working hard for a scholarship and she's not just a dopey asshole.
Still do not care about this character even with the new info.
>ywn be part of an orgy with Ya Girl, Fat Fucking Chuuni Tits, Bitchbot, and Yemisi
I'm beginning to have the suspicion that she's suppose to be some shitty attempt at a "Hanners 2.0": the weird quirky girl with a "relatable" mental disorder whose hang-ups can be milked for mild drama/comedy who needs to greatly needs the help of friends to get by.
We already have Liz for that. Ayo is quite literally, "we have Liz at home."
I think it's probably not uncommon for a formerly good high school student to suddenly collapse once they've moved into the college dorms and their family isn't there to keep pressure on them.
Sure, but it doesn't look like this. DoA handled that plot more realistically, and that was resolved by a superhero hacking the school to change her bf's grades.
>we've clearly got a lot to unpack here
Is that how young people talk to each other now? Are they so detached from genuine empathy that they have to hide behind irony and quips?
This arc sucks. It's not funny, it's not emotional, it's just needlessly dragging in a new character that they already have enough of and dumping her whole life story on the readers. Jeph could've covered more reactions from Marten / Clarie's friends and family, the wedding he forgot about, hell even more cubetown since he spent months in that place.
But nope, let's just introduce some total stranger not even a day after Marten delivers the news and deal with their emotional instability frame one. Terrible.

There's the mental breakdown we all knew was coming.

I'd say it was autobiographical but apparently Jeph graduated with a music degree
It's more biographical to Dave Willis, but IIRC Dave flunked out and spent a semester hiding on campus.
He does constantly wrestle with being a worthless piece of shit who somehow made it big, though.
Yeah but I figured he got that out of his system with Marigold's streamer arc. Guess not.
We don't know what their parents are like. Maybe they forced Ayo to go to a college she didn't want to just because her sister was nearby, and that was the final straw in a pattern of them making decisions for her.
I'm pretty sure Ayo went to college elsewhere and is only in Northhampton to crash on her sister's couch
not told: her medication that gives her actual focus and concentration
>You don't just accidentally get a full ride scholarship to a private university.
At no point is it established to be accidental.

Wait. Did she tell her about how she shot porn on her bed?
And both parties agree on terms. He probably never negotiated about important things!
Why are we supposed to be interested in this?
I don't know. It's not even the usual boring storyline, we already got this story with Liz. Now if Jeph was going to parallel Ayo and Liz that'd be one thing, but so far the plot beats largely align.
Another institution being blind to the mental distress of one of their assets.
Black Slice of Life Matters, anon.
Checking for porn and waiting until the comic goes back to Cubetown. Just a few seconds every once in a while.
Stabby probably wants to write some kind of redenption arc without writiting the fall
My cock in between their lips.
Those clothes must be awfully grungy with all the sweat from running around. Sweat.
Better wash them. Right Now.

>like emotionally distressed chicks with self-esteem issues
I can't fix her, but I like to pretend I could.

I can relate to that in some capacity

Hot!
The hand print really sells it
looks stellar, nicely drawn anon! these two look really hot together for some reason
G*d bless you

God damn, she is a comprehensive fuckup. At least she stayed home so she didn't get knocked up or drugged up or something.
What happened to the color robots? Why is everyone black now?
He's not trying to make a social justice metaphor at the moment, so black people are safe to use.
There's two black people that are sisters, two white girls, and a robot in the apartment.
what happened to the black haired guy that was the MC and lusted over the thick chick with the pixie cut?
Marten? He's in Cubetown aka the better part of the comic with his "girlfriend" Claire and Moray the thick titty goobot and the legal e-boi.
idk jeph the broad's fucking dumb I still don't feel bad for her

damn he's quick
Breast envy is top-tier
Is there an archive of all of these?
This is great but could we get it with a bit closer to comic size? For reasons?
