I like to imagine that the series actually ended with Faye leaving for New York and marring Angus while Marten does band stuff and everything after that is just bad fanfiction with a poor understanding of the setting.
I feel like that's a bad ending for both of them. Faye needs someone with both more backbone and more compassion than her to support her, and Marten needs someone with more ambition than him to keep him from being rudderless without steamrolling him. Sending Faye off with a whipping boy and stranding Marten back where he started just indulges their worst habits.
In many ways Bubbles is a good match for Faye if only because she categorically doesn't need to put up with her bullshit, while Claire is the worst thing possible for Marten because she alternates between browbeating him for his lack of agency and leaning overly hard on his stability. Actual endgame is Marten and Pintsize.
martin and hannelore is the true good ending for him, which is why we'll never get it.
