I can't recall, was it ever explicitly stated that Claire is MtF rather than FtM? The individual in question came out as trans, but what if the transition is the opposite that everyone expects, and hasn't even started yet?
As far as that point in time goes. That's one faultline in this schizophrenic setting where something like sex reassignment could be easy and painless, but that might offend the patreons, so it's not gonna happen.
That's just a handwave. We don't know why there's stagnation in this particular area when there's advanced bionics for all the college kids who need them. Coming up with a good explanation seems hard though. Maybe the tech would clash with the nanobot water plan. I'll go with that.

Two characters in this comic have completely functional prosthetic hands/limbs, that's way more elaborate than a synthetic vegana. Jeph has Claire as tokenism and literally nothing else.her transmission has never been engaged with on any level other than surface. To all practical intents and purposes, Claire is a woman
