what exactly is the setting of this comic? i've been seeing pages here and there for several years now, and sometimes it looks like normal subpar slice-of-life shit and then other times there's weird technicolor giants. and i feel a weird vibe from the giants sometimes, like this is the artist's fetish a little bit?
Sliding scale modern day. There's no stated date in universe that I recall, but given that it's been going for 20 years, it largely reflects whatever date it's being written on (phones are an obvious example), WITH ROBOTS and some other stuff.
Sometimes it's jarring. How the frick do VTubers come about in a world with AIs roaming around? But they're a thing in real life, and Jeph is probably blowing all his patrons money on them, so they're part of the comic.
It used to be just a slice of life setting in Northampton with wacky little robot pals and occasional other surreal stuff but eventually they upgraded and did a singularity that doesn't really affect the material conditions of the main characters that significantly (except when it does.)
