The sad thing is, they're actually relatively decent together characters by QC standards (outside of Faye losing almost all of her edge, but that's part of the general flattening of everyone from prestabbening). 90% of their appearances would need no editing if they were just friends and co-business owners. The characterization overrides to make them be a couple just weren't necessary, and would be super problematic if they went the other way. Can you imagine that strip if it were a hetero couple trying to lead a lesbian into realizing they actually wanted a dick ride from their male best friend?
And they're not the only ones. They're the "lesbians, uWu" ship, while Clinton and Elliot are the "gays, uWu" ship with negative chemistry, and Marten and Claire are the "trans, uWu" ship.
