I always subscribed to the theory that he made Claire trans as a distraction after his breakdown where Marigold didn't look fat in a bikini, but he genuinely used to draw Claire as thinner and kind of broad shouldered. Like I think he really did have that planned out and he tried to approach it realistically, drawing her with a man's frame and thin hips. Then over time Claire just slowly morphed into a girl with small breasts and her status as a transgirl has been mentioned like, twice, and not in the last ten years
