As far as i know, he came up with the base lore (probably took him a day or two to shit out) when development started. Then 6 years later it came out.

        That's pretty lame.

Reminder that Tolkien literally did write about Aragorn's tax policies, at least insofar as they pertained to the Shire which he exempted from paying taxes largely as a formality (since the kings of Arnor never really collected levies there anyway). The fat man is a hack.

Being in some appendix or barely mentioned at all doesn't count.

The appendices are part of the book so yeah they do.

Who tf wants tax policies in their escapist fantasy anyway? Only a fat autist it seems.

Gurm didn't even go into them himself apart from saying Littlefinger was pissed about the prostitute tax.

Oh so NOW we’re not going to be autistic about it?

It's pretty consistent with what George's problem is. The actual governance of kingdom doesn't get much consideration in The Lord of The Rings. That was never Tolkien's main goal, so it's not a weakness of the work, just a personal problem that George has.

Gee maybe because in the early, early medieval period there was no central government anywhere. There is no plate armor in LotR, everyone wears mail, it's supposedto be like the year 900 IRL. Rome (Numenor) is gone, everything is being propped up by petty kingdoms, there isn't even a high king anymore.

I actually agree with him in the sense that Tolkien shouldn't be immune to questioning or analysis. No writer should be put on such a pedestal that they cannot be subject to critique.

People critique Tolkien all the fricking time and always have. The fat man's analysis is just stupid, that's why it got the meme treatment.
