They are both useless c**t. They should both say "I love you..." before getting obliterated in whatever next big event. Then hopefully they stay dead for a decade or two
    >implying the comic book industry will still exist by then

      >Quicksilver and Crystal ever going to talk to each other again on screen?
If it didn't happen during the 2010s Inhumans push, it's probably not going to happen under the current generation of writers and editors, they're just not interested in either of them. Quicksilver's 2018 mini bombing probably convinced them readers don't care about him either.

      >And what would it be about?
      >"Crystal, what the Hell happened to your hair?"
      >"Pietro, what the Hell happened to your skin?"

That's not really fair, they're mostly team book characters or supporting characters, they don't deserve to get killed just because they're not headline stars. You're probably right about the industry though.

Has Quicksilver had a good story in the last decade? The last good book I remember was Son of M and that's pushing 20 years old.

I wouldn't call the time Marvel turned Pietro into an insane villain because Magneto was a "hero" a good period in his history.

From around 2009 to 2017 he was consistently in one team book or another, from Mighty Avengers to Avengers Academy to All New X-Factor to Uncanny Avengers. He's not the main character in any of them but he's usually treated well until just after the Secret Empire event, Uncanny Avengers changes writers and the new guy was not good to him.

You know, looking back WHY exactly did writers suddenly decide to have an Avengers/X-Men character like Quicksilver hook up with Crystal, an Inhumans/Fantastic Four character? Like, I get breaking up Crystal and Johnny, but story-wise I don't understand why Quicksilver was the one she left him for.

I think it was shortly after Roy Thomas took over writing FF and Steve Englehart took over writing Avengers. Roy wanted to break up Johnny and Crystal so he could write a single Johnny instead of him having a long-distance relationship, and at the same time Steve wanted to write Pietro out of Avengers so Wanda could grow more as a character once her overbearing twin was out of the picture. Pairing up Crystal and Pietro was a creative decision made for convenience, a way to retire both characters at once by having them leave their respective books and get married. Englehart's weird hateboner for Pietro kept getting in the way of it being a happy retirement.

        >Englehart's weird hateboner for Pietro
        What happened?

At the time Englehart took over writing Avengers from Roy Thomas, Pietro had been one of the first Avengers to notice Wanda was falling in love with Vision, and tried to warn her off, out of fear she was only going to get hurt (eventually she did, but not for the reasons Pietro thought). Englehart changed Pietro's motives from concern to bigotry, and wrote him as a domineering, controlling butthole who fell out with his sister for years.

Then when Englehart wrote them again in the 80s he had Pietro neglect Crystal so much that she had an affair, and when he found out about it he became an insane villain. Even when other writers tried to walk it back, he kept on writing Pietro as a villain.

Ironically Pietro completely recovered from it all as soon as someone else was writing him, while those 80s stories tainted Crystal forever.

And to continue the story, Bob Harras seemed to be the only prominent Marvel writer and editor who liked Quicksilver and Crystal, separately or together. First he used X-Factor (editing) to try and explain away Pietro and Crystal's behavior as Maximus's mind control. Then when he took over as writer of the Avengers he put Crystal on the team, and put Quicksilver on the X-Factor team, and tried to tease the possibility of them getting back together.

That was the era that really established Pietro as the character who is equally at home in the Avengers and X-Men worlds, unlike his sister. E.g. in Age of Apocalypse where Pietro has an important role but Wanda is dead.

...but because Crystal's role on the Avengers was to revive the soap-opera aspect of the book that had fallen away during the '80s (there was very little romance in the Roger Stern era) it meant she spent a lot of the run being attracted to the Black Knight even while she was still married to Pietro, which added to the "Crystal is a prostitute" meme.

I still think the Avengers run did her more good than harm overall, but it didn't do as much to recover her from Englehart's treatment, even though Englehart didn't seem to dislike her the way he hated Quicksilver.

Bob Harras and Peter David were some of the only people at Marvel who seemed to like Quicksilver, and Harras was the only real Pietro/Crystal shipper.

The X-books' treatment of the twins is strange. The Magneto connection kept getting them included in adaptations, but usually weird in name only adaptations that have little in common with the comic versions, while in the actual comics Pietro's role in the X-books is mostly confined to X-Factor, while even in AU settings where they'd have the freedom to give Wanda more of a role than they can in regular canon, all they ever do is kill her.

Harras' Avengers seemed to have elevated Crystal to a regular for the book, and part of the family group at the core of the team, but no writer afterwards ever wanted to use her. The love triangle with Black Knight probably wouldn't have done as much harm as it did if the Quicksilver solo book hadn't recycled it after it already had a resolution. That book got cancelled with Pietro and Crystal separated again, nobody afterwards cared enough to reunite them.

Only a subset of X-fans actually want Pietro as an actual character, very few X-writers want to use him, and the disparity between his and Magneto's popularity mean that he's never going to get any satisfying character beats out of them being related. Like you said Harras, and PAD are the only ones who care about him and PAD isn't writing the main title.

I love Moondragon just erasing from his mind his robot bigotry over Vision. makes a lot more sense with that backstory

On the one hand, it is funny that there's an old Avengers comic right in the middle of the big Korvac epic, where Wanda and Vision have taken advantage of some downtime to retire to their room with clear implications that they'll be having a lot of sex, but Pietro's standing outside their room screeching at them, and then getting angry at Jocasta too just for being a robot, until Moondragon gets so annoyed by him that she just mind controls him into stopping. But on the other hand it robbed him of any kind of character arc of overcoming his own bigotry. I wonder if this had any effect on writers occasionally handling him like he's still as awful and bigoted as he was in the 70s.

Even Luminous and those evil 90s versions of Tommy and Billy from The Crossing and the other versions of them from Last Avengers Story are going to show up in Wanda's book before Vision does.

I'm sure they will flirt or something in Avengers. I bet Orlando's book is second to Avengers in the pecking order so he can't do shit that would effect the character dynamics in that book.

He could at least not be ship-teasing with other characters, like next issue's Loki story. There's no excuse for that.

I just want a standalone solo Quicksilver book without any of the metric ton of baggage the character has managed to build up.

Years later Bendis also retained Crystal as having an affair with Sentry while she was still dating Johnny.

It's so strange since if you go back to the original Lee/Kirby run, a big part of Crystal's character is that how kind and all-around nice she's supposed to be.

This was probably Bendis being influenced by the internet community's low opinion of Crystal, the bawd memes resulted in Bendis and other people around the same time writing her like that. Rogue also got a Sentry romance retconned into her past, both heroines would be better off with this deleted, nothing of value would be lost.

And then Johnny years later had an affair with Medusa, which is dumb, since even though Johnny was always a womaniser he was never the type of scumbag to try screw another man's wife, let alone someone who used to be near-family to him.
