The normal people of that valley would probably be terrified of him in reality. A man who owns half the state, has his fingers in every political office and who sends his goons to beat up or murder anyone who crosses him.

These types of characters were always depicted as a villain in old films and novels.

Now that you mention it, Costner's character is basically the villain in the classic western Shane.

A lot of western villains were cattle barons trying to build their empires through backhanded and murderous means.
Plenty of Americans were murdered for or taxed out of their land, especially after the civil war

I think they tried to show him as the villain, but the vibe changed around the end of season 2. John was so crazy he branded Kaycee because he wanted to marry a girl without his permission and Beth was so afraid of him she decided sterilization was a better option than having a kid.
Yellowstone would be really dark, but I don't know what happened.

Beth thought she was getting an abortion, not getting sterilized, hwo did you miss such a huge plot point anon?

Beth decided to get an abortion and Jamie pressured her to get the whole thing because the clinic only did the full job.

            WRONG

Jamie took Beth to an abortion clinic on the reservation, whose policy is if you get an abortion you also get sterilized as well, Beth had no idea until after the procedure

I can’t take this show seriously, because something like that happening in real life would lead to an absolute shitshow. She would be justified in murdering those doctors, and someone who was branded against their will would also be justified in murdering whoever did it.

No one got branded against their will moron and yes the writing is atrocious it gets better though

              >Beth had no idea until after the procedure
Whose fault is that? The whole scene is bullshit. That reveal is about the moment the whole show dove off the cliff into daytime soap tier melodrama.

Also the whole tough cowboy bullshit got tiresome quick.

      Taylor Sheridan is a hack
This show was simply so he can larp as a cowboy and parade his show horses around
Some of the most terrible writing I have ever seen

Becks are good antagonists, but s3 is my personal favorite.

      >the two rapists getting rekt in the horse trailer and Jamie telling the girl's dad "80 years ago we could have hung them, but today this is the best I can do."
      >Moe sniping the murdering rapist
      >all the ranchers coming to Kayce's office to thank him for killing the cattle rustler
