Rainn Wilson - "We need a spiritual revolution"

>There has been a profound loss of the sacred in contemporary Western civilization. Nothing is sacred anymore. And I think sacredness and holiness is part of the conversation that we need to have collectively.

>I know there's a God. It's not a faith thing. God is as real to me as my body is. How do I know? I know that I love. I know that I love my wife. I know that I love my son. [...] That's the first step in knowing that there's a creative force in the universe. I know that there is love.

That’s a pretty low fricking bar. Love is a fricking chemical reaction our bodies perform to get us to make babies. That’s it.

Then why does that chemical reaction occur when humans look into a dog's eye or pet them

It’s not my fault you want to frick your dog. People anthropomorphize their pets all the time. It’s the sign of either a woman or a moron.

Not humans, westerners. If you look at a fricking animal that eats its own shit the same way you look at your wife or kids then you are a fricking degenerate. Animals aren’t humans, they’re tools or food. That’s it.

He's right about the need for a spiritual revolution in the west but it won't have anything to do with God or Christianity. Something else needs to come and fill the void left by church in western civilization since so many people have given up on it and will never return. Someone needs to make a half-religion that focuses on spirituality and community but without the "fairy tales" that the nonreligious loathe so much

The problem so that people want to have sex and fornicate but if you want to create a religion, you can’t have sex freely like how we want to. It’s a catch 22, you can have one or the other you can’t have both.

Just a cohencidence that a certain group have always been the foremost voices pushing for the changes that cause the biggest declines in quality of life, such as unchecked immigration and feminism suppressing wages by ballooning the workforce, outsourcing of manufacturing jobs, enabling violent crime and anarchy-tyranny that also kills mom and pop businesses and facilitates corporate monopolies, Blackrock buying up homes and jacking up the prices, etc.

Listen I am definitely in the support of spirituality and God but when the first thing you say is "I know there is a God because of my love for my wife and kids", I mean, that's still really, really self centered. Sounds like he's at risk of just being another gay who could easily not believe in God if nothing good ever happened to him.

It's a woman's argument. It isn't going to appeal to rational minds.

he’s right actually. people who philosophise about god while separate from the rest of their species emotionally end up talking about themselves when they talk about god. love is how we know god, and that is felt actively in living with other people and being loving to them. it’s the same shit plato was getting at with the forms, the experience of witnessing the forms intuits information to us that is incomprehensible but understood in the moment of feeling. when we feel beauty, we intuit something about the transcendent form of beauty beyond the ability of articulation. you understand god by loving others

Admittedly I haven't read his book but I get the impression there'll be nothing of substance here outside of "be nice, engage in your community, and care about others and art." Cool, good suggestions, but that doesn't really contend with the needs of the day. It reminds me of the feel-good nonsense I thought was true when I was in university taking too many drugs (I dropped out because of this fricking shitty attitude when I should have been working).
New-age spirituality is comfy to hear but it's completely substanceless. Faith should have values, responsibilities, duties, and through that, then love is there. You can't just say "we need this," you need to actively figure out what is important enough for you to sacrifice towards your faith - even if that's just focusing on your values and being of service. But then again, are you going to be of service to everyone? What about immigrants that hate you? This is why Islam is spreading so far, it makes no attempt to try and reach out and help those that aren't within its doctrine. It's both a defensive and expansive religion. It doesn't apologise for everything and open up LGBTQ+ friendly churches with drag queen reading hours like some do.
I don't get the impression that Rainn is suggesting an actual faith as opposed to crying out in pain thanks to a lack of one. Hollow corporatism and apologising for the past is all the West has now. To revert it, you need strong, unapologetic principles that can hem the tide.

Take the Islampill. The problems with Muslims aren’t due to their religion, it’s due to the race of the practitioners; mass child rape and murder is roughly as common among non-Muslims third world shitskins.
